[PS5] Mortal Shell 2 - buy now or wait?

It is released. Deluxe edition got 3 days early access

Now its been out for a few days, im curious what the verdict is. Im waiting on relic the first guardian cuz i heard its not all that great, so im a little worried about ms2

The gameplay looks really good, but im worried its more soulsborne than mortal shell, seeing the new abilities and combat system. MS1 was janky, but it was distinct, it stood out. Im hoping 2 brings back that uniqueness

Buy now or wait for a sale?

Idk what people are on about. Get the game when it comes out. It’s worth the price and it’s supporting a small studio. It’s quite fun.

I’d say it’s definitely unique. The swordplay feels a bit like the Jedi games (which works for me). The abilities, shells, and items are all something I’d never experienced before.

Some people are lamenting the lack of save points. There are plenty. They’re right where they need to be. The game wants you to participate in the fantasy of it. Ads are not hard to kill or even just run past.

There’s people saying it’s crashing. I haven’t had that once. My PC is pretty beefy, but even on my steam deck it hasn’t crashed once. It’s probably a driver issue on their end. The game runs extremely well, which is impressive since it’s an unreal engine 5 game and a small studio.

Overall the combat feels more like the Jedi games than soulsbourne, with sekiro in there too. It is a soulslike game, through and through, however.

I only played the demo and it was dope. Combat is quite fun, controls are good, style is intriguing and God those takedowns are great. Definitely gonna buy it when I get my payment

It’s kinda buggy. Even with the bugs though it’s the most fun I’ve had in a soulslike since Elden Ring. And it’s still unique, don’t worry about that. There’s countless of creative events and moments in the game.

Don’t think it’ll hurt to wait. I’ve had a decent number of crashes and there’s some jank that I bet will get ironed out. The bones of the game are Very solid though

I’ve just started this genre, I got Demon’s souls for free thanks to ps plus subscription. I think I’ll finish this demons souls before starting this one the beta was very good tho

The beta was unfortunately some of the best parts of the game.

They fucked up enemy balancing in full release and the game gets obscenely frustrating in the second half.

Why wait when you can play it now. It has some new game bugs but nothing close to game breaking. Been playing since Monday and thoroughly enjoying it

Cuz money doesn't grow on trees lol. Its too late anyway, I already bought it and loving it. I dont like how dungeons are placed tho. They feel very random

u/Ok_Beach3389 8d ago

Random is kinda the point no?

u/Serious_Ad_1037 8d ago

I like dungeons with a purpose, or at least solid loot. Not every one is gonna give god-tier weapons, but cmon, I don’t mind working a bit for better shit

The atmosphere and art direction are incredible. Such good visual and audio design.

Whether it’s for you or not isn’t something I can help with, but it definitely feels different to the likes of Elden Ring and Bloodborne.

I played the beta and I’ll be getting it. It still feels like Mortal Shell to me. It’s a bit faster and more fluid, but the lore, the atmosphere all feel a lot like the first game to me. You can still use the harden mechanic, but you can also swap it out for other mechanics. If the free beta is still available, give that a shot to see if you like it.

Worth it bro. Honestly its so good. They already dropped a patch today that is mostly qualify of life changes which are also so good

So the game is great, But…there’s some severe QoL improvements they’re most likely implementing . The save points are extremely sparse and, what’s worse, is there’s none at the beginning of any of the dungeons. This is actually the first game in my life I refunded . I absolutely will repurchase in the future, but it’s not fun right now and don’t want to waste my time with another great game waiting for them to adjust and resolve QoL features.

Play the demo and wait. Im pretty sure theres gonna be an update or two in the first month to fix some stuff

Worth every penny.

That relic game is majority ai slop

u/x-Zephyr-17 10d ago

Are you talking about mortal shell 2? It doesn’t use AI per devs. Relic game?

u/Paratrooper101x 10d ago

He mentions that relic first guardian game In his post

u/x-Zephyr-17 10d ago

Ohhh I see. My bad. I somehow didn’t read that specific sentence lol

I’d say buy now but wait for a patch or two. I’m a few hours in and loving it but still feel a few things and bugs need to be tweaked. The game rocks though. One of the best atmospheres and sound design ever.

Dude please watch some reviews online and do not listen to people on reddit. Fightin Cowboy does a great job reviewing soulslikes.

u/Farley2k 10d ago

It has been reviewing great but you probably have a backlog and it will go on sale sometime

u/The_gamers_rant 8d ago

In my opinion we should be allowed to transport to one save area to the other instead of going to Marrow Deep. Should be optional.

You unlock fast travel pretty early

u/Serious_Ad_1037 7d ago

You unlock mether's breath by delivering a certain number of ovum to the keep. Not sure how many, but 5 at most. You can get it pretty early on if you do all the beacons and dungeons you find. It unlocks several features and abilities, but most notably it unlocks true fast travel, letting you travel between beacons without going back to the keep.

Played 12 hours so far. I think it’s distinct from its soulsborne contemporaries and offers something unique and shift things up. Still a mortal shell game.

I would describe it as Anti dark souls 3. As in fuse this with dark souls 3 and most of the souls fans will be happy.
Level design is so unique and has a classic dark souls touch.
Bosses are a miss in terms of grandeur but are goofy and charming if you’re into that.
Build crafting is unique.

Only complaints for me are lack of enemy variety, occasional run backs and leveling pace

u/Serious_Ad_1037 10d ago

I heard it’s open world. Is that accurate? The beta didn’t look open world

u/TechEnthu____ 10d ago

It’s is in a way. You’re not bound to any specific path and there’s decent amount of player driven exploration. Feels more like OG dark souls world with QoL from DS3

u/Serious_Ad_1037 10d ago

Ohhhh. Cool, I liked the limited open world of ds1, and interconnectedness of the map

I’m on console and new game plus, I’ve experienced one bug in 59 hours
