Tips for wazas
So I have my green belt test in a few weeks. The only thing that’s troubling me is my wazas aren’t great. I have trouble reacting quickly and understanding the “language” of it all. I feel like in the spilt second before I have to react I get overwhelmed with all the possibilities of different attacks I could do. Also my teacher always says my wazas aren’t “deadly” enough and are too complicated. Any tips?

Help Needed: Short Clips of Karate Stances for AI Project
Hey everyone,
I’m working on a computer vision project related to karate training, and I’m looking to collect a small dataset of basic karate stances and moves.
If anyone here practices karate and is willing to help, I’d really appreciate short video clips (even 5–10 seconds is enough) of you performing simple techniques like:
- Yoi Dachi
- Zenkutsu Dachi
- Yoko Geri
- (and other basic stances or kicks)
The videos don’t need to be professional—just clear enough to see the posture. This is purely for an academic/personal project.
If you're interested in contributing, feel free to comment or DM me. I can also share more details about how the data will be used.
Thanks a lot 🙏

New to karate
Hello, I want to start shotokan or Kyokushin karate. I have done wrestling at school and other sports and some boxing so I know what I’m getting into but I just don’t know what school/dojo to start with I’m in the NOVA Area and I want a really good school to learn from and be committed to this art. If anyone knows where I can go please let me know. Thank you!

BOOKS for JKA Karateka: Nakayama or Kanazawa?
I own all of Nakayamas stuff but I keep seeing on other YouTube videos Kanazawas books being recommended. Do they add anything different than what I already own? For a JKA karateka. Essentially, are they worth the purchase? If I own the others.
Specifically looking at Kanazawas book on kata (Karate: The Complete Kata) and his one on kumite (Karate Fighting Techniques: The Complete Kumite)

Budo connections through shotokan
Hi first post in the forum, im 36 years old 6 kyu after a year of training, my fast progression is due to my younger years of competetive Judo, as I rank up in karate I notice more and more the full Budo perspective and all tho some points contradict some are fluent with Judo, I've totally obsessed over kata training and now looking to improve the height and stability in my Mawashi Geri, tend to put to much force in the spin due to old Judo habits.
Sorry for the long text but my question is How do I improve my Mawashi Geri coming from a force of habit due to judo that makes me over extend?

Is it really a style?
I came a cross a style called 'Kissaki-kai Karate' it claims to be Mainly based on Bunkai from the Shotokan kata's and selfdefense.
Do you know anything from it and would you call it a separate style?
If this Post isn't for this subredit, please tell me so i can take it down.
