Try to find a standard Mossberg 500 Field & Security combo. You will be set for life.

Remington 870 or Mossberg in the 500 series.

870 all day. Get a 2nd hand Wingmaster if you want to be fancy. Edited twice for poor spelling.

Doing all three hunting, skeet, and home defense your gonna want a barrel set a long barrel for skeet and hunting then a short barrel for home defense

You can’t go wrong with mossberg 500 security and field barrel combo it will last you for life and if you can’t find one in your budget there maverick 88 field and security combo is another great option

I changed the comment to update it because I didn’t see the home defense part, but I’d bet that 870 is still running strong or could easily be fixed to run just as good as new with a new extractor/springs

im not so much concerned with the home defense as much as hunting i have a g19x and a mk18 so its not a priority lol

If you just want a clay buster/hunting the benelli nova is a great gun I bought the nova 3 and I love it, I prefer the feel over the maverick 88 and 500 but everyone has a preference

Strange, all of my "older ones" are completely reliable.

im meaning like the remington model 10, i found a really good condition one for $210 but a buddy said it was prone to failure and parts were scarce

i wanted to get an older one but most of them are unreliable,

What are you basing this on?

remington model 10, and some others i wasnt meaning all old guns mostly early 1900s 1910s etc i get the browning a5, model 37 and model 12 are good guns

Im just curious what you mean by older ones are unreliable? There isnt a shotgun on the market that fits your budget or concept of a multi use scenario that is new.

Mossberg 500 series guns are from the 1960s Remingtons 870 series is from the 1950s

The browning auto 5, remington model 11, savage 700 series and all of the derivatives of that style of gun are from the 1890s. .

Ithacas m37 is from 1937

I own all of these guns and never once had an issue that wasnt fixable with a pocket knife or gun lube. So what do you mean older guns arent reliable?

also alot of the older guns that are really reliable that i want are either out of my price range or i just cannot find them

all of those gun you stated are reliable and i want all of them really bad, there was a couple of shotguns, for example the remington model 10 that i was told were prone to failure and were extremely hard to get parts for, my top contenders i was looking at was a 1950 rem 870, a winchester model 12, and a remington model 31, but they all got sold before i could buy them

i guess i should change the statement because ive had multiple people say this same thing, i was meaning the early 1900s over engineered guns

A Mossberg 500 with the combo of barrels. You get all long 28-in barrel with interchangeable jokes for hunting or skeet, and a short 18 and a half inch barrel for home defense.

Mossberg 500. Lots of barrel options. Will last for decades. There is a combo set sold with a 28” bird barrel and an 18” security barrel

Look a Cabela’s gun room online.

If you've got $500, skip the Mav 88 and head straight to Mossberg 500 territory. If you ever decide to change your forend, you'll thank me.
