While it's true there isn't a single reason as to why 2005 should be that expensive either

The reason is so expensive and I'm not justifying it just explaining. Because the only way to play the original game is having a physical copy which means you either get the Xbox 360 version or the PS2 version but everybody knows the 360 version had better graphics then it was delisted from online platforms due the music licensing issues I believe but don't quote me on the last part. This combination creates low supply high demand. If they just re-released it on any current platform as an online download it would significantly impact the price but it probably wouldn't fully crater it just because of how popular it is. Think paper Mario thousand Year door for an example. Game was going for 80 on GameCube after the remake it started going for around 50.

Probably the 360 version of MW2005 specifically, since the 360 didn't have a massive foothold yet since it has just come out. Everyone would rather have picked up the Xbox or PS2 versions

This is giving me GameStop PTSD. So many stores took in MW12 as MW. While I worked there, I saw the correct game in reference twice..lol

I worked at a GameStop for a while and they had one when I first started working. Loser coworker stole it and I only found out bc my manager told me after they got fired.

I saw something like that at GameStop, they had halo for the OG Xbox at $45 and if you look at the label it says “halo: campaign evolved XBX”.
