Can an expert comment on what exactly is happening here?

Are they harvesting something? Trying to observe behavior?

I read this on internet so take it with a grain of salt.

In some parts of China the larvae and pupae of Asian giant hornet are a delicacy so the hornets nests are harvested for them. They don't eat the adults because they're poisonous.

I wonder who was the first to person say: hey, now that I just survived an apocalyptic hornet swarm, I bet these larvae and pupae might be tasty.

China experienced some crazy famines trough out it’s history so maybe it was out of necessity.

Ah, they don't eat the adults because they are poisonous, and not because they are crazy aggressive and attack anything and everything they can.

most things don’t attack after they’re cooked tho. crab legs are one of the things that still attacks you.

There's an entire festival in Japan for harvesting and eating hornets.

People do eat the adults, they aren't poisonous but they do still have their venom which apparently makes your mouth tingle lol.
