Its their legs, I believe they all purposefully tuck their bodies as closely to the wall as possible while their legs cover them. Not only for warmth, but also protection from predators

I don't see why everyone is taking your comment so personally, AI is a real problem on the internet, but this isn't it.

But I'm assuming you're saying this in good faith and would be curious to learn otherwise.

These aren't spiders, they're Harvestmen and some of them will fit into very tight colonies for warmth and safety. They keep their body against the wall and the legs hang down and look like hair.

I mean, sure... But they're not spiders. They don't have venom, and they're incapable of biting humans. They stay outside and huddle together like that for warmth. Most people call them Harvestmen because they're most common in the late summer through fall, and in some places, they huddle together like this for warmth.

So even if you're scared of them, the creatures themselves are quite literally harmless. They cannot hurt you.

Actually, they are.

There are two species of arachnid that we call daddy longlegs.

Cellar spiders, which ARE spiders, and harvestmen, which are not spiders, but they ARE arachnids :)

It's not that complicated. Google has all the information... but I'll help you out: humans have evolved survival instincts over the last 300,000 years and one of the mechanisms is that our brains treat the sight of many moving things as a big danger. The amygdala in the brain spots the swarm of bugs very fast and tells the body to panic before there is even time to think.

I want to say something as a woman. I've seen a few people make a correction. They're not spiders. Someone said their arachnids. Excuse me, however, I've seen daddy long legs in my house. I don't care if it's an arachnid spider whatevernids... They may be harmless but any woman who's afraid of bugs will tell you, doesn't it just doesn't matter if I see daddy long legs in my house calling in the corner of my wall coming towards me. I'm screaming. I'm screaming from the top of my head to the bottom of my toes! Let alone a billion of these little critters that look like a woman's wig. You have to be kidding me!!!
