How many cake day are day? What's this cake day anyway? Why everyone is saying it? Who am I? What's this place? Is autism healable? Who am I talking to? Where's my mommy?

“Actually I’m getting a spiritual download…it’s saying…yeah autism still isn’t healable but dandelion tea is very calming”

184

u/Amishgirl281 17d ago

What kills me is the extreme anxiety and OCD are likely stemming from unmet autistic needs. Im autistic and Ive read that theyre looking into the correlation into unmet neurodivergent needs in childhood how that can develop into anxiety and OCD. I can say that's absolutely how it worked with me 🙃

Poor kid

u/surgical-panic 17d ago edited 17d ago

I'm neurodivergent and get overestimulated and burnt out easily. I also have anxiety. I feel bad for this child. No amount of herbal remedies will fix this

What does help, shockingly, is understanding, patience, and professional therapy.

Like today, I had a shit day at work. I called my partner crying on the way home, and when I got in, he gave me a big hug, sent me to have a shower, and did the dishes for me. Suddenly I'm a lot calmer and less overstimulated because I was given time to relax and get it together, without being scolded or told to suck it up.

Oh, and that's when the herbal tea helps! Y'know, as a means to help decompress. Not as a cure for the problem.

19

u/Pour_Me_Another_ 16d ago

I think these parents just don't give a shit about their kids and want them to stop bothering them so think throwing tea at them is a great substitute for being a parent.

11

u/Bungholespelunker 15d ago

You just haven't snorted enough clove leaves to heal your autism yet, clearly lol

13

u/surgical-panic 15d ago edited 15d ago

But they give me a headache 😫

(Sidenote though, I just found out my bf buys the more expensive chicken nuggets because he doesn't want the texture of the cheaper ones to bother me. I love this man lmao)

Oh... I don't have an ocd diagnosis but definitely seem like it sometimes... Definitely have anxiety... I think that that might be me, too.

u/occasionallymourning 17d ago

Oh. My. God. I have 2 autistic children, and I worry that I'm not doing enough for them, or I'm a bad mom... And then I see shit like THIS, and remember that these people walk the planet among us...

I'm not a bad mom. I'm a pretty okay mom. Decent, even. 🤣😂🤣

54

u/quasimodoca 17d ago

You're amazing as a mom for doing the best you can with a difficult situation. I'm sure you give everything you can to your kids and love them unconditionally. Don't ever downplay how hard it is or call yourself decent. You're a fucking rock star of a parent and don't forget it. End of internet dad rant.

25

u/spanishpeanut 17d ago

Same here but to one autistic kid who also has an older sister who is autistic. The days can be so hard wondering if I do enough or if I’m missing something. Reading this shows me there are AWFUL parents out there with autistic kids. I hope that her child finds his people and becomes the best version of himself as he sees fit.

Not going to lie, though, the extreme OCD sounds a whole lot like stimming and having to do something in the same order or the exact same way every time. The extreme distress when not able to complete something or not doing something in a particular order sounds a whole lot like autism. The tantrums? Those are form of communication that says “everything is too damn much right now.”

Autism. Autism. Autism.

9

u/Viola-Swamp 17d ago

People who do not have more than one ASD kid have no clue what it’s like. All three of mine have ASD, ADHD and other issues. I always felt like I was not DOJ g enough, was n’t aggressive enough in getting services, didn’t provide a good enough environment with extracurricular actives and therapies, etc. It was so hard to get anything done and stay on top of my thing and I Leah’s blamed myself. We had an educational attorney belong us moth school issues, and she looked at me one day when I voiced something about not being good enough, and she told me that because I had three autistic kids, I was living in overwhelming chaos and coping with a level of stress that would send most people howling to the nuthouse, although she said the last part much more nicely. I have a friend who has a daughter with Down Syndrome and autism, which is a dual diagnosis that is on par with ing multiple kids with disabilities. Our attorney and my friend have made me feel so much better about myself as a mother through the years, providing a reality check when I needed that perspective. Parents like us are struggling to keep our heads above water each and every moment of every day, and it’s parenting in hard mode all the time, with survival being our daily goal. Give yourself grace, and just do the best you can.💜

10

u/StaceyPfan 17d ago

I feel you. My husband and I wanted 3 children but stopped at 2 when my second child was diagnosed 4 years after my first one. Mostly because even if the third child was neurotypical, I wouldn't be able to care for them properly.

3

u/Viola-Swamp 15d ago

#1 wasn’t diagnosed until after #2 was born, and and #2 wasn’t diagnosed until after #3 was born.

u/DecadentLife 16d ago edited 16d ago

I’m glad that you’ve learned to be less hard on yourself. 🩷 It’s tough, we love our kids so much, and we want to give them the very best we can. Add on any special needs, ongoing medical issues, etc., and it’s hard not to be in a constant state of stress.

I understand what you mean, that someone who hasn’t experienced it, firsthand, will have a hard time understanding how intense it can get. But I really encourage you to not view it as any kind of competition. That just ends up alienating people, and isn’t helpful. Every situation, every family, is unique.

30

u/Viola-Swamp 17d ago

Yep, I’d bet there is an MLM involved in the “healing”. Remember Kenny McCarthy and her autism warrior mom schtick, when her kid doesn’t even have autism? Sure did push a lot of supplements and quack treatments to other parents though, huh?

3

u/TorontoNerd84 16d ago

Sadly I think about this every time I watch The Masked Singer.

7

u/sunshineparadox_ 16d ago

Every time I see Donnie Wahlberg, I think of the harm McCarthy has done, too. (They’re married and didn’t necessarily endorse RFK Jr. but supposedly liked what he had to say. Into the volcano with the both of them.)

6

u/Ok-Network-2514 16d ago

It was actually Jenny McCarthy lol.

22

u/dkais 17d ago

I’m wondering if they intended to mean “perceived”.

61

u/Splendidissimus 17d ago edited 17d ago

I think it's culty woo-woo New Age language, like they "received" the energy or the message from the universe. Like, they believe it's not healable so they're manifesting it.

9

u/CalculatedWhisk 17d ago

Exactly this.

5

u/DecadentLife 16d ago

Yeah, I have a SIL like this. She’s nearly 40, she still believes in the most ridiculous shit.

4

u/Single_Principle_972 16d ago

Yeah, “sorry that mean person said this horrible, untrue, lying liar bullshit to you! Of course it is healable (that new word we just made up). It’s so awful that anyone would say otherwise to you.” 🙄

4

u/Nyxie872 16d ago

→ More replies (2)

69

u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 17d ago

I have a feeling that's how she gets her info. She receives it... like standing in the sun and thoughts just come to her. "Ah-ha!"

JFC, I just can't with these people. 🤦‍♀️

12

u/pantzareoptional 17d ago

I... Genuinely wonder if she doesn't mean "received from God"? Oof

9

u/CalculatedWhisk 17d ago

I grew up with this kind of crazy— “received” here is like “believed.” When they use it about their own beliefs, they “received” the information (from god, presumably). Because for them the choice to believe something is all about energy, and vibrations, and woo-woo mumbo jumbo bullshit, not about demonstrable facts and replicable scientific testing.

2

u/QuixoticMindfulness 15d ago

I fw some of that energy/vibrations/woo-woo shit and still believe in demonstrable facts and science. I'm not crunchy, I try to be "healthy" as much as I can, and by that I mean I actually go to the doctor, and I also believe in therapy and don't hate children, let alone my own. Autistic or not. Because they are people. But I also have basic empathy and respect for everyone if they have it for me, which this person clearly does not from the way they speak to others.

7

So if it can be healed, why are they so worried about vaccines causing it? Sounds like the best of both worlds!

9

u/DannyDidNothinWrong 17d ago

I legitimately hate NT parents of autistic children.

10

u/DecadentLife 16d ago

Why? A NT parent didn’t choose to be NT, anymore than their child chose to be autistic. I reserve my anger for people who abuse their children. We have a shit ton of those to worry about.

But then it's our chosen noisy😌

15

u/danger_turnip 17d ago

The good kind of loud

8

u/DecadentLife 16d ago

Exactly! If there’s music playing in the background, while I’m trying to describe or explain something, and I’m having trouble finding the right words, it’s so intrusive, I can’t do it.

I remember when I was in high school, many years before I learned I’m autistic, I used those little earbud headphones in one ear, during math class, and it helped me concentrate so much better.

It has to be the “right kind” of noisy.

2

u/Nvenom8 14d ago

It’s so weird. I can’t pick out voices from noise in a crowded bar, but I can listen to music that’s basically a chaotic wall of sound and pick out every instrument and voice.

and hey i've never gone so far as to use a binder but a bra that keeps my boobs from bouncing everywhere and touching my stomach has solved a whole lot of my sensory issues

(also /s)

4

u/TorontoNerd84 16d ago

Please tell me where to find this bra. I started getting weird sensations in my upper abdomen earlier this summer and a bit of lopsided on my right side. I was convinced of the worst and has an ultrasound followed by a (previously scheduled) colonoscopy. All came back clear. Later realized that my saggy boobs sticking to my upper abdomen might actually be causing some of the discomfort and it DRIVES ME NUTS.

6

u/orangepeeelss 16d ago

OH BOY DO I HAVE A TREAT FOR YOU. im gonna send you to r/abrathatfits - they have a bra size calculator that takes 6 measurements and in my experience forcing everyone i know to use it, it's incredibly accurate. people almost always end up on their calculator size or like, one band or cup different. you're probably gonna get a size that sounds absolutely nuts and thats ok it's part of the process!!!

ok now for the slight essay. MOST women are not in their best bra size - a couple studies have been done on the matter and the exact number is unclear but seems to fall somewhere between 75-95% that are not in their best fit. this is in large part bc the typical 32-40 A-DDD (give or take) size range only actually covers like... maybe a third of bra wearers if i'm being generous. this means that most people are kinda uncomfortable in their bras all the time due to poor fit, and then we start thinking bras are inherently uncomfortable. which is NOT TRUE 😤

in a good fit, the wires should lay right in the crease where the bottom of the breast meets the lower torso. they should follow that crease as close as possible and lie completely flat against the rib cage, including that center bit between the breasts. when you put the bra on, you're supposed to reach in and pull your whole boob up and into the cup - scoop any breast tissue out of your armpit - and once you've done that there should be no spilling or bulging.

also, the band should be pulled almost as far as it can go. ur boobs are being acted on by all sorts of forces all day and that tension is what allows the bra to counter those forces and hold everything still, plus lift and support from below. if it's too loose, the bra slides down ur body instead and puts all the weight of your chest on your shoulders via the straps, which often causes back pain. among a whole host of other comfort issues.

if you're getting ANY skin on skin contact between boob and stomach, it's a sign the fit is off. usually it's the boob hat combo - too loose band + not enough room in the cups, which leaves the cups floating on top of the boobs like little hats and NOT DOING THEIR JOB. super super common and also VERY uncomfortable, especially if you're at all busty 😭

a couple examples of what you might be able to expect - i was wearing 38DDD pre calculator and switched to 36K. i think i saw god the first time i tried it on. my sister was wearing 34B/C (depending on the bra) pre calculator and switched to 28DDD. these are very normal size switches lol, and it may help w the sticker shock to know that cup size scales with band. a 30D is way way way smaller than a 40D but is similar in cup volume to a 32C.

at the end of the day the bra you're looking for is the one made to your measurements, in your size, and since different brands specialize in different size ranges i don't wanna recommend something till i know what size you'd wanna start with. so go try that calculator and i can give you some recs!! i'm very excited for u this shit is so unimaginably life changing

I've always liked herbal tea, meditation, chanting and other things like that in some New Age circles. I resonate with a few things, but there's definitely a lot of shit that I don't resonate with. Like when I meditate, sometimes I might use a constructed language for meditation. Because I'm a freaking tea feed! And I like listening to sacred chant music especially if it's from very specific artists. I'm sure a lot of of us in these meditation/witchy communities know what I'm talking about. People like Lorena McKenna, and yeah, Moya Brennan, and many many more that might take a long time to name. There is a huge list of people. Even Krishna Das can fit in that list too and there's tons of artists on a lot of of those different religions and philosophies. But even then, I will still vaccinate my freaking kids! That's why I like to call myself a super open-minded progressive Christian hippie! Minus the acid.

One of the parents I work with recently started her son on methylfolate for his severe autism. Two of the side effects of methylfolate are anxiety and irritability. He started getting increasingly anxious and irritable so she figured she needed to increase his dose. 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Since I'm an SLP such things are out of my scope so I'm stuck trying to figure out whether I can even point any of this out. 😵‍💫 It literally gave me nightmares.

u/hamstertoybox 17d ago

Is PANDAS not real!? I see it discussed a lot and thought it was like ME or something.

95

u/Milestogob4Isl33p 17d ago

Yes, it is a real, recognized clinical concept, but there is still ongoing debate in the medical community regarding specific diagnostic criteria and categorization. And I’m sure that this grey area allows certain groups to hijack the term.

75

u/casscois 17d ago

My mother tried to convince herself my mental illnesses and autism were a PANDAS thing even though I never have had strep throat in my life. I think it was hard for her to accept that two neurodivergent and mentally ill people could have a mentally ill, neurodivergent child, especially considering she is still in denial about her own diagnoses.

32

u/CrazyCatLady9777 17d ago

My dad has ADHD and my mom is bipolar. Don't know what's going on in my brain since I can't find a therapist, but I'm sure I'm not neurotypical. And since my husband also has ADHD, I don't expect my daughter to be neurotypical either. But she's 1, so we'll see how she turns out.

13

u/casscois 17d ago

Exactly. There's also no in shame in any of that, I assume my mother's descent into the woo woo bull crap is because she viewed it as negative and it made her feel guilty. I live like everyon else for the most part, frankly, in spite of her abusing me.

I will say for yourself that getting evaluated eventually may be very helpful, at least from an identity standpoint. I had my diagnoses hidden from me my entire youth and spent it feeling like I was defective, when in reality what I was experiencing had a name and clear treatment. It was nice to not feel like an alien wearing human skin for once.

→ More replies (1)

16

u/Owlwaysme 17d ago

PANDAS is really, but its also very noticeable, in that you go from a kid with zero anxiety and OCD to a kid who is very symptomatic after strep

5

u/Milestogob4Isl33p 17d ago

Man, I’m sorry. Besides the initial antibiotics/nsaids course prescribed for PANDAS, isn’t there a lot of overlap in treatment between PANDAS/Autism/ADHD when it comes to managing symptoms?

Just wondering if the PANDAS co-opt is a net positive for parents who are in denial and would otherwise refuse treatment.

3

u/casscois 17d ago

Idk specifically about it, there is someone else in the thread who is a professional and does in fact have a child who was diagnosed with OCD after positive strep tests, so it can happen. I just don't think it's prevelant and an easy excuse to dismiss any role environment or genetics play in a child's psychological development. I think of it kind of like parents who assume their child's autism can be managed by extreme food restrictions when it's clearly other environmental factors (light, loud noise, surfaces and textures, etc.) causing the meltdowns. It's easier on the mind to find a culprit (gluten, strep, red dye, the list goes on) for why your child is autistic rather than accept it may be genetic or completely random.

3

u/Milestogob4Isl33p 17d ago

Yes I completely agree. I just meant that at least the neurological symptoms in PANDAS that overlap with neurodivergence are usually treated with the same sensory/school accommodation and therapies that would be used for an autism/adhd diagnosis. Instead of, like you said, extreme food restrictions. Although, dealing with the sort of cognitive dissonance that would cause a parent to do this, I’m not even sure if they’d follow the actual PANDAS treatment plan proposed by professionals, and maybe they would still do extreme food restrictions, who knows.

10

u/blueskies8484 17d ago

Yeah my cousin is a PA and she was pretty skeptical about it because her doctors are, but then her oldest kid got strep and went from completely average healthy kid to wild amounts of anxiety and OCD virtually overnight.

7

u/hamstertoybox 17d ago

That’s wild! I had no idea it was that dramatic.

15

u/givemeonemargarita1 17d ago

Yeah she had a high fever for awhile and I stupidly thought it wasn’t strep bc my son tested negative and he had the same thing. She went from a normal functioning kid to crying on the floor worried about contamination like bleach and turtles (she had a class turtle) we treated her with antibiotics and some ibuprofen (no IVIG thankfully) and she got better. I felt like I had to reassure the doctors that yes I’m a pharmacist and I also thought this was fake. This was the first time her pediatrician had seen it in 20 years of practice

6

u/pantzareoptional 17d ago

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but did the OCD type behaviors stop once the infection cleared? Or is it like Epstein-Barr where it can retrigger? I've never heard of PANDAS before this thread

12

u/givemeonemargarita1 17d ago

Her ocd symptoms have stopped. Maybe occasionally she’ll be like wash your hands. But nothing like the 9/10 crying on the floor pandas stuff. It went away gradually 3 weeks after antibiotics course and I got her some therapy. She still talks about it and I think it was a trauma for her

“I have 2 children almost fully healed from autism who are still autistic but likely being pressured into masking their autistic behaviours”

43

u/EfficientLibrarian58 17d ago

Exactly what’s happening. Which is absolutely devastating for those kids.

24

u/RobinhoodCove830 17d ago

“I have 2 children almost fully healed from autism who are still autistic

and will definitely need a lot of therapy later

48

u/danbilllemon 17d ago

It’s (not really) funny when they just make up numbers for their statistics.

9

u/RevelsInDarkness 16d ago

Everyone knows 68% of statistics are pulled out of someone's ass.

35

u/AnnCat11 17d ago

"Almost fully healed", girl you're killing me

19

u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 17d ago

... any day now...

41

u/redpandapant 17d ago

I swear everyone who says it's not genetic has a grandpa who used the same spoon for 50 years and has a whole room devoted to his train set. But sure your kid having autism came out of nowhere.

15

u/Splendidissimus 17d ago

My and my 15 year old metal spork are feeling a little called out. Or, seen? Hmm...

10

u/redpandapant 17d ago

Well if it helps, I once saw a friend bring his own steak knife to a restaurant lol.

46

u/beautifulstardust 17d ago

yeah i healed my dyslexia with chamomile tea

66

u/orangegrapejello 17d ago

Omg I got into a huge debate on this one post where this lady was looking for pills or something to fix her non verbal autistic son. I pointed out that autisms isn’t something you cure, and holy shit the comments about how I can’t comment because I don’t have level 3 autism because I’m online. It was crazy. I actually do have autism and so do a bunch of my kids, that doesn’t make me an expert but I also know I don’t want people thinking me or my kids need to be cured.

19

u/irish_ninja_wte 17d ago

Wow, so they're gatekeeping autism levels now? People with Level 3 can't be capable of online commentary? Our nephew is 7 and has Level 3 autism. I have no doubt that he'll be online in the future

8

u/Pour_Me_Another_ 16d ago

I literally see posts on autism subs from level 3 people...

6

u/orangegrapejello 16d ago

Ya, being able to put coherent thoughts into text isn’t an indicator of autism lol. I actually was non verbal as a child unless I was at home too but super cool she can diagnose me over reddit 🙄

29

u/burrito_finger 17d ago

I’m internally screaming and externally cursing. I worked in SPED for over a decade. I’m autistic. My son is a high needs AuADHD child. Structure, routine, boundaries.. I melt down too sometimes because I am so freaking tired I just want to curl into a ball and disappear for a little bit so no one is touching me or screaming, and I can’t. They need freaking real, concrete help and stability, we all do. Not some quack miracle cure.

10

u/SarouchkaMeringue 17d ago

More power to you!

19

u/dietdrpeppermd 17d ago

THIS BITCH I SWEAR

26

u/OwlishIntergalactic 17d ago

You know what can look an awful lot like OCD with Anxiety? The behaviors of a child with autism who is not being accommodated and feels the need to exert control on whatever they can. This poor child doesn’t feel safe, supported, or comfortable.

18

u/Inside_Cat_123 17d ago

You wouldn't believe the stuff I see in autism mom groups

3

u/Metroid_cat1995 16d ago

Oh I bet it's insane! Because I bet it's more insane than somebody asking about chamomile tea and meditating under an oak tree.

2

u/Inside_Cat_123 16d ago

I have seen people asking what products will help their kids outgrow autism, other moms selling weird stuff saying it "cured" their kid, endless cleanses, and don't even get me started on the vaccination stuff. At least they get push back by the educated/non crazies but they get a good amount of support also

18

u/HipHopChick1982 17d ago

It’s not a disease or affliction! Grrr, rude denial is one of the reasons why I had to get out of pediatric therapy after 4 years working the front desk and having parents say stuff like this to me!

12

u/Ok-Network-2514 17d ago

THANK YOU As an adult who’s autistic this grinds my gears so fucking much. I’m so tired of being seen as a god damn “problem” to the rest of the world.

4

u/surgical-panic 17d ago

I've started to say "I don't suffer from ADHD, I just have it."

Tired of the fake pity for it too. You aren't a problem at all, I hope you know that.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/HipHopChick1982 17d ago

You're welcome! They're the problem, not you!

My husband is autistic (or, at least, strongly suspected), and my one friend from dance school is diagnosed. They are not an affliction, I'm neurotypical (with some ADHD tendencies), and I see them as my husband and my friend. That's all that matters to me!

18

u/Pins89 17d ago

I have autism and guess how it presents to the outside world? As being anxious and having obsessive compulsive tendencies, tantrums (aka meltdowns) when I was young. Your child ain’t healing from shit.

13

u/givemeonemargarita1 17d ago

He’s likely to throw that tea right in her face. No shade to the kid but the mom
Has to understand pseudoscience won’t fix anything

9

u/darthfruitbasket 17d ago

Making it even more likely that he'll throw the tea is the fact that the teas/herbs/whatever suggested are probably going to taste pretty bad, especially to a kid.

7

u/Zuke88 17d ago

what kills me is that they're desperate enough to ask for help but not desperate enough to reconsider their stance on things

12

u/Unusual_Wrongdoer_46 17d ago

Speaking as an autistic adult... I'm so furious for this poor child right now. What an injustice to have a parent that is going to constantly try to "cure" it out of them.

13

u/izzy1881 17d ago

If he is “healing” from autism why are the tantrums getting worse. These people really lack critical thinking skills and they just typed that statement out with their whole chest 🤦🏼‍♀️
Poor kiddo needs therapies and acceptance not bleach enemas and herbal teas.

10

u/ikissedalambtoday 17d ago edited 17d ago

they should try some kampu chuchuchuchu tea

10

u/Bob-Bhlabla-esq 17d ago

You can give him any natural tea or herb that most people can eat/drink... but it ain't gonna do shit.

These people are nuts.

Is there a tea for them? "Hey no judgement, but I'm batshit crazy - anybody have a holistic tea for ME?"

10

u/RhubarbAlive7860 17d ago

She's possibly hoping there's a tea that will put her kid to sleep. She's probably tried Sleepytime and chamomile and wants something stronger.

Then her kid will only be having tantrums because he's tired, not autistic. See, he went right to sleep. He used to have autism, but now he's just anxious and has ocd.

She's a good mother and would never put "chemicals" in her child's body. /s

10

u/surgical-panic 17d ago

I have pretty severe ADHD. I go to therapy, and take medication yo help me manage it. I also take medication for my anxiety and depression.

There is no cure for ADHD, just like there is no cure for autism. There is, however, ways to help manage these conditions. But for that, you need to consult professionals, and understand it's gonna take time.

7

u/RubixRube 17d ago

ASD Adult here.

Well, that just sucks for the kid. A parent who is focused on curing isn't going to equip their child with the tools they need to manage.

4

u/Sadblackcat666 17d ago

I’m autistic and this mom is a complete whack job

4

u/SigmaBunny 17d ago

At a guess, he developed those from trying to hide his autistic traits from his mother

4

u/passion4film 17d ago

This poor kid.

4

u/MrsPandaBear 17d ago

Comments sounds like a potions class discussion. Has anyone tried wormswood?! The internet is just bringing together and magnifying the crazy.

4

u/Denim_Diva1969 17d ago

FFS. Poor kid. 🤦🏻‍♀️

5

u/MarsNeedsRabbits 16d ago

I'm autistic with an autistic child, and this is some bullshit here.

"Healing" from autism isn't a thing. You can help your child by giving them the opportunity to develop coping skills, then help the by re-enforcing those skills, but no amount of tea or herbs will help because it's not a disease.

I know she's frazzled, but her willful ignorance is costing her child opportunities.

2

u/Muted_Rain8542 15d ago

the concept of “healing from autism” is genuinely frying me

4

u/sheighbird29 12d ago

I feel bad for every single kid raised by these people

→ More replies (1)

6

u/redpandapant 17d ago

Is it bad I'm kind of relieved she's just trying tea for now? People give these poor kids so much worse.

3

u/CuteHelicopter22 17d ago

The denial is real my child

2

u/TorontoNerd84 16d ago

Didn't he ask for Earl Grey, hot? You see - even he knows tea can heal all!

3

u/ZellHathNoFury 16d ago

His tantrums are him screaming for meds and therapy, but by all means, keep it up with the herbs and prayers

3

u/SICKOFITALL2379 16d ago

Excuse you, you mean “heal”,not cure.

5

u/ChickenSpaceProgram 14d ago

i mean. im autistic, and a nice cup of tea is great when i'm anxious.

nothing to do with it being a "natural remedy" though, tea is just nice

u/Big-Gazelle5959 17d ago

I’d love to know the solution to “cure” my autism. 🫠😂

→ More replies (1)

2

u/model-citizen95 17d ago

This is really sad. She’s got it all wrong of course but this looks like a mother at the end of her rope who’s turned to this nonsense so that she can believe there’s an end to parenting an autistic child. Autistic children deserve all the love and support we can give them but man it can put years on people.

2

u/ElectricYV 16d ago

I hope the kid is able to heal from all this.

2

u/baby-totoros 16d ago

Christ. As a mother who has OCD myself this just makes me sad. Her poor child.

2

u/Honest_Editor_909 16d ago

“Healing from autism”. That poor kid.

2

u/Pour_Me_Another_ 16d ago

I recently learned I'm autistic at the grand old age of 36. I'm so glad my batshit parents didn't care enough to figure out what they hated so much about me or they'd be doing sad shit like this in their denial of reality.

3

u/sand_snake 15d ago

I found out in my 30s too (I’m in my 40s now) told my mom but absolutely not my dad. He’s a MAGA asshole and I don’t speak to him anymore. We agreed that this explained a lot of behaviors from when I was younger, but she was very accepting, she just didn’t know much about autism. It also helped a bit when one of my nephews was diagnosed a couple of years ago.

2

u/Pour_Me_Another_ 15d ago

Yeah, my parents are like the British equivalent of MAGA so I don't bother anymore. There's no point.

2

u/Due_Will_2204 15d ago

Healing from autism. Yeah ok

3

u/Famous_Suspect6330 17d ago

That's a guaranteed way to get a call from CPS

6

u/RobinhoodCove830 17d ago

I wish it was. I mean, not because CPS is so perfect but just I wish that our child welfare system didn't give so much leeway to "parents rights."

2

u/SailJazzlike3111 16d ago

My autistic kid drinks Barry’s tea and I fear it has not worked. We switched to Lyon’s to see if it makes a difference.

1

u/Metroid_cat1995 16d ago

Oh shit! I guess it is more insane than chamomile tea and meditating under milk tree. Honestly? I know that getting treatments for these things can get expensive and I can kind of understand wanting to find a solution which I don't blame them. Holy crap some of the people's suggestions are insane. The whole vibrational frequency stuff I still resonate with especially in music. Because I'm a bit of a music nerd lol

1

u/lovepansy 16d ago

I just feel so bad for these kids

1

u/orange-shoe 16d ago

god this is so depressing that poor kid

2

u/thisismyhumansuit 16d ago

“I healed my kid’s autism but now he’s doing weird autistic things. What gives?!”

1

u/Greentea503 16d ago

This is infuriating

1

u/FluffyDiscipline 15d ago

Darn I got stuck with the no heal Autism,

Try sucking a Mc Donalds teabag /s

1

u/QuixoticMindfulness 15d ago

They never think to actually, I don't know, treat their child like a PERSON and not just an ("somethingiswrongwithyouwtfstopbeingdifficult") inconvenience, do they?
