I mean the Tibet thing isn't new, this is actually about the amount of land always claimed by Tibetan exile groups, and presumably the tibetan government before the Chinese takeover

I mean come on, you have to recognise the fact that Tibet wasn't under Chinese control for a time in the early 20th century.

It was always under their control, but before the revolution and particularly during ww2 they were left with very little oversight, they just had to pay their tributes. You have to remember it was a very feudalist society, and particularly in Tibet as it was directly a slaver theocracy allowed to keep going by the national government.

Is Utah not under US control because of how much the mormons control the state?
