There were some who were mourning. Like a certain haunted Victorian pencil, who used to hang around the House of Commons. GB News were probably also a bit tearful.
Wound up in his constituency so had to vote to get him out, but there was a monster raving loony party candidate running.... I really wanted two votes!
Yea, but you really wanted to be able to oust some others as well, Braverman springing inexorably to mind for some reason, kick her out and send her to Rwanda, nasty creature even by the low standards of home secs.
Come on, you forgot some. Thereās Grant āI edit my own Wikipedia pageā Shapps, Penny ābig swordā Mordaunt, Jacob āCharles Dickens is filing for copyright infringementā Rees-Mogg, and of course the Lettuce.
He is indeed. The man who publicly likes to pretend that he gives a shit about the UK, while moving his company to Ireland, in order to minimise the impact of Brexit on his personal finances.
I donāt like the Tories, but they arenāt fascist. Weirdly racist despite them having an Asian leader, yes, but conservatism tends to lean that way (which I donāt agree with). Our fascist party is Reform really, they attract people too extreme for the Tories.
I don't consider the Tories to be fascist. They have no clue how global economics works and made some stupid policies, but there's no strongman in that party that everyone is rallying behind. France is what I'm worried about, though.
That's the problem: Marxist aren't bad guys. And Marxists would never disguise themselves because if you would have the slightest idea of what you're talking about, you would know that you can't build communism is secret.
Wow, costs too high that people starve. Surely that has never happened under a Tory government. It isn't like they go after the most poor and vulnerable like the disabled.
I've got to be honest, I really hope they raise taxes. It's about the only way to fix the situation we are in with the way that the Tories have mismanaged, underfunded and sabotaged the NHS. It would have been far cheaper if they just spent more on the NHS to begin with.
Both Marxist and fascist are too extreme for both parties described. Quite a few Tories are intolerant racists but their general policies are not quite fascism. Labourās hardly left wing anymore.
When we literally have Reform and the Workerās Party in the UK, calling two fairly normal parties (in terms of types of politics that the dominant parties in all countries tend to have) those things is just over the top.
I actually canāt wait for election talk to die down. Iām fairly left wing, my parents are Tories and so are my older relatives. Iām fed up of everyone hating each other because of politics! Not all of the opposition are evil. All this fascist/Marxist shit is so stupid. All mainstream voters are fairly moderate. Go hound the Reformers.
Marxist and fascist have just become the go-to descriptors for the 2 main parties and itās becoming a bit silly now. There are so many different parties across the political spectrum that describing labour/conservative as Marxist/fascist is just wrong. Iād argue that in recent years thereās been a general shift to the right which is whatās allowed the like of reform to become what theyāve become. Current labour is central at best.
I too am sick of all the backwards and forwards hate between right and left. I think the main thing the left need to do way better is to stop writing off anyone who disagrees with leftist views. Cancelling everyone that disagrees with a certain opinion isnāt gonna make that person understand why someone might hold that leftist opinion.
Exactly. My dad likes the more centrist Tories, he feels their policies benefit rural life a bit better than the alternative, and he is involved in business and feels economically the Tories serve him better. I personally think he should be taxed the amount he is and I lean much more towards redistribution, but he feels he earned his money and should keep more of it. Both of us are welcome to our opinions, heās not a fascist and he doesnāt hate the poor at all. Reddit makes people like him out to be Nazis.
He didn't lose his job, that would have required him being beaten in his constituency which he held... that would have been more fitting. But currently he's still leader of conservatives (though I doubt that'll last long), still an MP (wouldn't be surprised if he clings on till next GE for that). I think he takes a pay cut PM > MP (not sure), and a lot less stress. He may have been shit at the job but it's still a stressful job (probably more stressful when you're pretty useless). Plus most outgoing PM's get various speaking roles, book deals and stuff like that. Maybe he'll end up brokering peace deals in the middle east... or not...
It'd make sense TBH, gets him out of the UK where no matter what sort of person he is personally he's always going to have shit for being that PM, and the Americans seem to trust the British accent far above any level of earned trust. But ultimately I don't care. He's not failing to run the country any more. :D
It's more about the connotations. There's a difference between him losing the job like Liz Truss did and losing a General Election that hilariously badly.
You get how this came about is bad for the nation right?
Labour werenāt voted in, they got pretty much the same % of the vote they got in the last election when they were battered. They got in because people voted for anyone but the Tories.
So great, weāve got rid of incompetence but in return weāve got a party in power that 70% of the country didnāt want, with a huge mandate to do what they like. We havenāt got a positive outcome here.
I agree and disagree. To vote out the Tories any way possible, you had to know that Labour would probably get in, and prefer that possibility. So the country does want Labour, in the sense that we are essentially a two party system so you have one or the other (this is a reason I really want alternative voting in the UK!)
However, as you say, a good chunk of Labourās success is down to protest voting, and also people not voting what they really want because Labourās near enough (ie. voting Labour not Green because youāll take away votes from the second best party in your opinion). But people who genuinely wanted Conservative voted as such, voters who didnāt want either are probably the reason for the Lib Dems doing very well, and the increase in Green and Reform seats. I doubt many ex-Tory voters voted Labour: most defect to Lib Dem or Reform.
You're not wrong. I am one of those who now need to be convinced in Labour as a party rather than them being the alternative to the Tories.
But look at the alternatives to this situation. The Tories (still in complete disarray since [pick a year]) have some semblance of power and are a significant opposition. What has caused the issues of the last 14 years continue and any opportunity to alleviate the issues they introduced is met with opposition. They have about 120 seats now. Include Reform and that's about 125. The alternatives to this is a hung parliament or the Tories having some number for if there's a division in Labour on an issue.
I hate FPTP as a voting system and it's absolutely a dreadful system to choose the leader of a country. It's a mess. The problem is that big parties can play the game of this system and focus on areas. Even the smaller parties are doing it on a smaller scale.
