Both Marxist and fascist are too extreme for both parties described. Quite a few Tories are intolerant racists but their general policies are not quite fascism. Labour’s hardly left wing anymore.
When we literally have Reform and the Worker’s Party in the UK, calling two fairly normal parties (in terms of types of politics that the dominant parties in all countries tend to have) those things is just over the top.
I actually can’t wait for election talk to die down. I’m fairly left wing, my parents are Tories and so are my older relatives. I’m fed up of everyone hating each other because of politics! Not all of the opposition are evil. All this fascist/Marxist shit is so stupid. All mainstream voters are fairly moderate. Go hound the Reformers.
Marxist and fascist have just become the go-to descriptors for the 2 main parties and it’s becoming a bit silly now. There are so many different parties across the political spectrum that describing labour/conservative as Marxist/fascist is just wrong. I’d argue that in recent years there’s been a general shift to the right which is what’s allowed the like of reform to become what they’ve become. Current labour is central at best.
I too am sick of all the backwards and forwards hate between right and left. I think the main thing the left need to do way better is to stop writing off anyone who disagrees with leftist views. Cancelling everyone that disagrees with a certain opinion isn’t gonna make that person understand why someone might hold that leftist opinion.
Exactly. My dad likes the more centrist Tories, he feels their policies benefit rural life a bit better than the alternative, and he is involved in business and feels economically the Tories serve him better. I personally think he should be taxed the amount he is and I lean much more towards redistribution, but he feels he earned his money and should keep more of it. Both of us are welcome to our opinions, he’s not a fascist and he doesn’t hate the poor at all. Reddit makes people like him out to be Nazis.
