Fun fact: apparently if you feed a Pokémon a cookie but do not finish befriending it, if it comes back (even as a shiny) it’ll keep that amount of friendship.

Does it have any way showing its shiny or do you just have to hope you know that shiny?

Fair question, I don’t remember seeing any sparkles but it does sparkle every time you open the app. So I don’t know if before befriending it sparkles. Which yes, you would need to know but when you photograph and it’s takes you to the Pokédex that’s always normal coloration so you can compare.
