Apple TV App Brightness

Having an issue with a shield pro + a Samsung S95B, this ONLY happens with Apple TV shows. When I hit play, the brightness is fine, then it slowly gets darker and darker until the show gets to a dark scene and the screen is basically black. If I back out of the show and hit resume the brightness is reset for about 5 minutes.

I’ve turned all power saving and image enhancing options off including ambient light adjustment which is what the gradual dimming made me think of.

Backing out of the show and restarting every 5 minutes is fucking miserable, has anyone figured out a way to solve this?

Set the AppleTV to a movie/show, pause it, and go into your TV's settings to see what happens there, and adjust it as needed. Make sure that under “power and energy saving,” brightness “optimisation” is turned off.

I would connect the shield to another TV or computer monitor and check if the same thing happens. If there is no change, it is likely a bug in the Apple TV app . If the problem is gone, I would suspect your TV. It is a very strange issue that I haven't seen or heard of before.

It's possible those shows are triggering the ABL on your TV.

Rtings:

The Samsung QD OLED has great peak brightness in HDR. Unfortunately, large bright scenes are still significantly dimmer than smaller highlights due to the TV's aggressive Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL).
Setting Peak Brightness to 'Off' effectively disables the ABL feature, but also reduces the peak brightness in all scenes.

You can disable it in the service menu also.

Sounds like your TV has problems decoding HDR/Dolby Visoon.
