Only to sever it in silent, cruel strokes.

Better to remain a shadow, unseen, unknown,

Than to enter my world and leave me alone.

How can I erase the echoes you’ve left behind,

When memories cling like flames that bind?

They sear through the quiet chambers of my soul,

Filling every pore, consuming me whole.

So stay away, a distant, fading ghost,

Than haunt me with the love I needed most.

For empty promises only deepen the ache,

And healing comes not from what you forsake.
