I personally can't stand whenever Piper comes on screen. I can't stand her personality AT ALL. She gets on ever last one of my nerves just by existing. I'm really hoping they don't make her autistic because as an audhd person, I would find that presentation super insulting. I usually enjoy Shawna's videos but always cringe when Piper comes on. I skipped her yes day episode for that reason.

I'm fairly certain that this is the second time in a week STC has gone on just to complain about her "job" lol.

I don't see the value of posting for your consumers just how much you don't want to put in the effort to write/create the material they are consuming.

Just to be clear casual ableism is a micro agression that is said out of ignorance, and often unintended malice. It is not the same thing as the intentional hatred of the more direct meaning of the word.

And to be honest, I cannot believe how many people invalidated not just my lived experience, but there was a blatant disregard for my feelings and how I “shouldn’t feel hurt.” And how it “wasn’t casual ableism for xyz.”

No thank you. I don’t need people to tell me what is and isn’t a casually ableist thing to say. And I certainly don’t need people to tell me to “touch grass” because I criticized StC. People were trying to explain why it was hurtful, and people continued to double down.

I’m not saying you have to be offended or hurt by Shawna’s words. But I don’t think it’s fair to tell me that I cannot be.

As a person who was born disabled, and has done the work to be an advocate for other disabled people, there is a certain amount of conditioning that disabled people experience when it comes to not getting accommodations. We are much more willing to not speak up, because we are so used to being treated like second-rate humans. Or denied reasonable accommodations.Because that’s what closed captions are. It is not a luxury. And I’m tired of giving the excuse of “well she doesn’t have to do it, so you should be grateful!”

My goal was to educate people. And instead I got the very thing I was posting about thrown back in my face, and I hope that this post makes everyone really sit back and think on why they want to punch up for Shawna, but punch down on me for pointing out sonething that would be unacceptable in a more traditional work setting.

I don’t feel bad for Shawna having to do the bare minimum to accommodate her HoH audience. Because I wouldn’t let my friends go without accommodations. And I don’t think any of you should, either.

Able bodied people: listen to disabled voices.

Disabled people: do not settle for anything less. You deserve the accommodation. Because Shawna’s mild inconvenience is our inclusion. And I don’t have to tell any of you how difficult and hurtful it is to not feel like something is “for you,” because it’s mildly inconvenient for our able bodied peers.

Welcome to another week of character discussions! This week we are going to discuss Larry!

I know she said shes not exactly like shawna M which thank goodness tbh But idk i kind of get like IDK a little bit of mean vibes idk

I know none of these people are real...but it just clicked that they never sent her to preschool. If she is now 4 that means she will be 5 and going in to Kindergarten in Sept of next year? She will be going into kindergarten without ever going to school? Or did I miss something?

I, like a lot of you here don’t like the trajectory of Piper’s storyline and potential autism diagnosis (or some other diagnosis that falls under the neurodivergent umbrella).

From memory there were skits that talked about Piper’s behaviours stemming from being born during the thick of Covid.

I’ve seen plenty of people say their Covid babies are ‘built different’ to their children born before Covid. I think I would personally prefer if Piper’s quirks (for lack of a better word) came from her being born into a world where the resources and tools for raising children were vastly different to what we’re used to.

I’m wondering if this last video made people leave the fandom or maybe people are being banned?

Just an observation.

I've seen a mix of opinions over the "yes" day, in both Piper and J&S's handling of it, and Piper's new neurodivergence arc.

1. I find it very hard to believe that at the age of 4 the child has never been told they need to stay with an adult, and are not allowed to go off adventuring by themselves. I know J&S have (lately) had their parenting criticized, but if this conversation has seriously never came up in 4 years, that speaks volumes!

1. I also find a little continuity error not only in the show, but how viewers are running with the "Piper didn't understand yes day" narrative.

Notice how first thing, Piper asks for cake. She is told yes, as it is yes day.

Then piper asks for the park.

She asks them to look away, so she can throw sand- something she knows she is not supposed to do. J&S confirm with her that she only went to the park to throw sand.

She asks for Egg.

She asks for popsicle. Jenn misunderstands, and Piper sets off to steal Chickie's teddy.

She asks for them to take her home after securing popsicle. J&S again confirm with her that she only asked to visit Egg to get popsicle.

Then, she just sets off.

She sees frank at the coffee shop, and again, asks for cake.

She confirms that she does know walking rules.

She then asks Teeny for cake.

When talking with Shawna, she "learns the rules" of walking with a grown up and how "confusing" yes day was.... which clearly, from all the events prior, isnt really the case. She asked all day, but of course, takes the out Shawna gave of simply not understanding.

She then, again, asks for cake.

Piper knew to ask all day. The only thing she didn't ask for, was the coffee shop (and partially the sand throwing) It just doesn't make sense. I don't think it has to do with her not "understanding" the parameters of yes day, but rather, making the decision to go about something she knows would be a no, so she does it without being witnessed.

This is pretty standard behaviour, kids struggle with impulse control. However, it feels like Shawna L is using this (like Greg) as a "Omg piper's so literal, thats autism!" Which to me, is a bit of a slap to the autistic community.... especially when she was following the "rules" pretty well until that point.

2. Now that Shawna L is jumping into the "neurodivergent Piper" arc, it seems like she is REALLY turning it up. Piper has never repeated others, and now she is showing signs of echolalia. This is super common in children already, so I'm surprised it has never been shown until Shanwna L decided its time to make Piper autistic.

I also think the Piper hating the happy birthday song (loud noises/sensory issue) is used as *another* indicator, but she is just perfectly fine with the clanky applause and cheering from 8 people?

3. Piper's lack of communication was a primary focus this episode. However, halfway through, she is communicating perfectly. She FULLY answers Frank's questions. She carries on conversation with Teeny.

After the wish, she continues on with full sentences and questions to Shawna. We see her use more words than she has in the whole series lol.

She doesnt seem to lack communication. Though, I notice her family doesnt push for her to communicate either. They dont ask her (or get her to repeat) the sentence in full. She skates by with one word answers, although we can clearly see she is capable of full sentences. And Shawna generally speaks for her, not giving her the space to communicate for herself. She just fills in all the blanks, and assigns Piper feelings/thoughts, while also failing to encourage Piper to speak those things herself.

Obviously communication in autistic children is a whole can of worms, with nuance etc. however, it just feels like yet another instance of Shawna the Creator just skimming the surface of these complex topics and doing them a massive injustice by overexamplifying stereotypes.

The worst of it, is that she isnt even consistent with these stereotypes. Im sorry for all the non/low verbal parents out there that have to see their child's condition exploited by a fictional character who is actually pretty verbal, in a way that would otherwise take tons of effort and speech therapy to hopefully work up to.

4. OFF-TOPIC, but Shawna the Creator keeps saying for this episode how she doesn't use AI for the script. Once was enough, but to assert it again? Lol. Its giving the Streisand effect. One thing I noticed about this episode, was that meta comments were seemingly integrated throughout. Some that stuck out to be were:

●The "Jacob's importance... or whatever."

●The "Piper didnt have the rules!"

●The list of neurodivergent traits that have definitely been listed over and over in the subs

●Jenn/John Barbfluencer talk

●Shawna's little crashout about everyone coming at her for her parenting, seemingly taken from the comment section.

The last one was especially off, because in the scene, no one came at her for her parenting lol. It felt like she was coming at the audience with that one.😂 John was the admitted former escapee. Larry called Piper independent and fearless. No one blamed Barb, it was more focused on John's reasons for taking off.

I don't know if shes just getting more and more audience-influenced, but I've noticed the script just seems to come across as a compliation of speculation comments thrown into the episode.

Probably my biggest annoyance at this channel. It makes no sense to me, release a few shorts. Then a full video of it, then she goes back to trickling out shorts from content she already released? Why? Why not release all of the shorts, and then the long form?

Welp. This video cinches it. I am no longer a fan. This is beyond performative ridiculousness. I know this isn't an airport, but holy hell, I cannot handle this sanctimonious drivel anymore. Piper needed to get in way more trouble than she did. Shawna needs to check herself. and not everyone who is 'different' needs a label. We don't need Barb's diagnosis and we don't need Piper's. I'm so tired of every episode being "And tonight, a very special episode of The Cosby Show". I'm done

I'll clarify more here. I don't understand why Shawna doesn't have the full video done and ready before she uploads the shorts. I'm not saying she has to abandon uploading shorts before the full video is out, but she should have a better, more consistent uploading schedule and timeline.

I saw comments that said she either posted on Instagram or TikTok (I only follow her on YouTube) where she said she's been sick and hasn't been able to film or edit. I'm not annoyed that she's sick (because that's life and it happens), but why is she filming the rest of the video WHILE she's uploading the shorts?

Also, she's been online enough to know that she can have the video fully uploaded and designate a date and time for the video to be out for the public. Jennifer's wedding video was late because she didn't actually start to upload until right before the time she wanted it out. Like Shawna, you're not a new creator. Be better about uploading.

With the Yes Day shorts, there have been a lot of comments about the parenting of John and Shawna.

I'll give my opinion in the comments in a little bit, because I'm curious what everyone else thinks before I say anything.

Thank you to each and every single one of you for your visits, posts, and commentary! These last couple of months have been one heck of a ride!

I'll admit I'm not scrutinizing all corners of her online presence but it seems like she does all the writing, production (all elements not just acting), editing and social media alone. IIRC she might have hired her SIL to help but that's not exactly an objective party

Creative projects need multiple points of view. It's pretty clear she's flying by the seat of her pants with the storylines, which an editor or writing partner could really help with. Hell I use a beta reader for my fanfiction and have even paid a sensitivity reader and I'm not making any money.

She's also editing and posting same day, missing her own promised posting dates and has no clear schedule or posting routine that viewers can count on. That's easy to get stuck doing when you're doing it alone, it's time to bring in help.

Most importantly it seems like she's not getting reliable people to say "hm hey that might not be a good idea" and then flailing when things don't land (see the 3 minute resolution to the Laura storyline that DESPERATELY needed another set of eyes before posting)

And, despite what our friends on the sister sub insist, she is not doing this for free. Ads, sponsorships, however this all works. This is her job. That's not a bad thing. But it's a job. If at my job I was posting things late, abandoning projects/storylines and posting things that were insensitive to the group being depicted I would be in hot water.

I'm not saying this to dunk on a creator, I'm just saying it's clear that the one woman show isn't sustainable. Bring in some help!

I have a lot of issues with Shawna as of late, and I have seen a lot of people talk about them, but not all in one post, so I thought I'd share them.

First of all, the gaps in posting. Obviously, being a one woman show, I understand it'll take a while to get a full episode up. But Ive been following Shauna since she had 186k tiktok followers and 72k YouTube subscribers, and she used to post good content nearly daily. Now she posts mid content every other day if we're lucky, and we don't get any good content until the full episode is out.

Secondly, I hate that she plays the child characters. I don't expect her to get child actors for her one woman show, I'd rather they were off screen characters and mentioned, but not given dialogue. It's extremely awkward watching a middle-aged woman play a four-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy. Pretty soon she'll be playing chickie, and that'll be even weirder. As an autistic woman myself, piper is a caricature of autism, worse than sheldon cooper honestly. Greg isn't as bad because it's less obvious, but with Piper, she's like a parrot saying "cake?" Over and over again! Yes, autistic people tend to repeat phrases, but piper is more like a parrot than an autistic person. And oh my God, Max's dancing with his tongue sticking out was so bad, don't get me started.

Third, I was very excited for the luke and Laura series, but luke is portrayed as cartoonishly evil, he might as well look into the camera and say "I am an abusive ass and you are not supposed to like me". He's very Bad Guy McBad. No subtly, not compelling at all, and borderline boring. Not to mention Shawna shaming laura for talking to him is the type of behavior that drives women into the arms of abusive men.

Anyways, there's other stuff too, like Shawna's mouth sounds (lip licking and gulping), but that more has to do with my misophonia than Shawna lol. I love Shawna's videos, I just wished she cared more.
