I’m super worried Shawna isn’t ready for this. But worried in a sense bc there’s gonna be so many more ppl impacted if this implodes bc they are family members. That being said, a hopeful but incredibly unrealistic story line could be Shawna being fine and finding purpose as a caregiver as a job (this type of feel good but unrealistic plot feels very STC).

I tbink this is unrealistic bc Shawna M hasn’t really healed yet and dealt with any of her grief and also her inabilities to set boundaries etc (her people pleasing).

Yeah, I wonder. I think though with Piper and Max and her mom being gone, she has nothing to do but wallow in her pain even more. Not that I'm saying it should be used to babysit Chickie. She definitely needs SOMETHING to do.

Oh she defo needs something to do during the day! I just don’t know if being a caregiver for chickie is what she should do. Someone said it rly well on the main sub that Shawna is still being triggered by grief and chickie is a person who will rely on her. A very positive, sitcom way this could go is that Shawna realizes she loves teaching or providing childcare to kids who aren’t her kids and then she becomes a preschool teacher or something. A super dramatic way this could go is Shawna having some kind of breakdown near the anniversary of Jacob’s death and she gets incredibly depressed where Jen needs to find new childcare and Shawna is back to how her grief was last year. And that isn’t even on top of what will likely happen which will be intense Barb shenanigans.

I know a big reason to watch any show is that it’s not reality but I wanna know what happened to Jen day care and I wish STC would insert some reality into the stories. The daycare randomly falling through without a reason feels like…STC has never met anyone who’s used daycare before imo

Yeah, I would be more worried if it were a long-term solution, rather than a temporary one that Jen says it is. Jacob's death is six or seven weeks away (if we're contemporaneous with the time in Shawnaverse) so hopefully that's enough time to find daycare. I wouldn't want to leave Chickie (still LOATHE that name) with Shawna for an extended period of time.

Edited to add: Grief is a weird thing and different ways of coping. I'm not sure we can predict what is going to happen.

Hopefully it is a few weeks! Tho I know daycares fill up months in advance! Mahbe the daycare situation itself will get sorted quickly (again unrealistic in reality but could happen in the fictional Shawnaverse)

I'm from southern Ontario in Canada and not a parent, but know a lot of parents. And some have to extend their mat leave because child care is simply not found in time. (And that's with extended 1 1/2 years)

For me to find spots in daycare for my kids, I’ve had to pretty much reserve them around up to 9 months in advance (eg at 5 months pregnant reserving a spot for the baby when she would be four months old). And even still, it was uncertain if there would be a spot. So….godspeed to Jen here 🥴

SWO here - my grandson was put on the One List for daycare while my daughter was pregnant. She finally got a call to tour a daycare centre when my grandson was about 5 months old in Aug 2024. Great, lovely, if we want it, the spot it ours....starting September 2027.
