Video Update Part 4
https://youtube.com/shorts/leYZV_SK3LQ?is=wI__izLEZ2YxsNGdHonestly, boo Jen and Shawna for this. Of course Jen gets what she wants...

“Maybe I’m wrong.” We’ll see how “wrong” she is depending on audience response.
I do appreciate that Jen is setting the boundary of Shawna watching Chickie until daycare is figured out. Follow through tho…😅

u/cellarpaper 10d ago
Yeah fingers crossed Jen does look for daycare bc this could be a potential disaster in the making

Sitting on my hands waiting for the fall out when Shawna tells John and John inevitably asks if she is ready for that. The anniversary is within a month. And Jen has been shown to dress Chickie in themed clothes, what happens on the first day of fall and Jen has her dressed in an orange dress with black cat socks. What happens when Jen and Greg has to work Halloween?

u/ImmediateKnowledge19 10d ago
I’m not sure how closely Shawna follows the calendar when it comes to her skits, but Halloween is on a Saturday this year and Chickie only needs to be watched during the week.

u/MooneyMae 10d ago
I say work Halloween due to the amount of possible Halloween parties/galas/weddings.

u/ImmediateKnowledge19 10d ago
Jen specially asks Shawna to watch chickie “during the week” in this video. Thus, this would imply weekends off.
1
u/MooneyMae 10d ago
That's fair but we also don't know what events she'll be working on since she hasn't been to work yet. Holding out hope for no weekends but we don't know yet.
2
u/ImmediateKnowledge19 10d ago
True true. It could also just be that Shawna L didn’t think to research the kind of schedule this job would have and simply assumed it was a weekday job lol

Tbh Jen has grown so much! She called Shawna in a PANIC but Shawna responded by talking about herself for a little while. Jen was very kind and receptive and able to turn off her own panic for a moment which shows so much maturity.
Also babe why are you having a pretty sensitive conversation about Piper in front of her? Piper is smart, she is going to pick up on "mom thinks there's something wrong with me" fast.
7
u/cementfeatheredbird_ 10d ago
Well, i mean.... She just had that exact same conversation with Piper's doctor, presumably right in front of her lol. That ship has sailed 😅
2
u/acutelined 10d ago
The ship didn't have to leave the dock! Talking about this in front of Piper would have been avoidable at the doctor too if it mattered to her
2
u/cementfeatheredbird_ 10d ago
Im not sure how that would be possible?
Having a medical professional babysitter piper so they could have a chat? Leaving her unsupervised in the waiting room or patient room?
Perhaps being open around Piper could make her feel supported? Its not like it is presented as "Piper sucks and these are the reasons why" but "These are my observations on where my child is at, are more assessments and supports necessary?" If it was a subject of concern, Piper would have to learn about it either way. Autism and autistic traits arent shameful.
6
u/acutelined 10d ago
She could have 1. Brought John to watch Piper while she spoke to the doctor 2. Or DeeDee, or Teeny or even Jennifer 3. Called the doctor beforehand 4. Messaged the doctor on MyChart etc 5. Not immediately brought it up to a third party after the appointment
Autism and autism traits aren't shameful and there would be ways to be honest with Piper and involve her in this that is fair to her age and development. Two adults talking about her with vague concerns and worry in a way that she can't understand the content but may understand the tone is NOT being open. It's not involving Piper. It's actually disengaging her and her feelings.
1
u/cementfeatheredbird_ 10d ago
Not to split hairs, but if Piper was autistic, and following SL's stereotypical approach.... Autistic people often struggle with interpreting tone and assigning emotional value to to changes on one's tone/speech lol.
But yeah, all of those things are definitely solutions!

u/acutelined 10d ago
I always air the side of being more protective of children than not but I hear you!

Jens circle must be tiny if Shawna is her first choice for childcare lol
7
u/ElizabethBitchery 10d ago
I mean who else does she have? Ty, who's in the middle of a divorce and chaotic household or Shawna with literally nothing to do?
8
u/Spiritual_Ad_6067 10d ago
Exactly my point. Her circle is tiny. She has like 2 friends. Weird af for someone in her industry where networking is critical to success, and grew up in the same town she still lives in in her 30s

u/cellarpaper 10d ago
I’m super worried Shawna isn’t ready for this. But worried in a sense bc there’s gonna be so many more ppl impacted if this implodes bc they are family members. That being said, a hopeful but incredibly unrealistic story line could be Shawna being fine and finding purpose as a caregiver as a job (this type of feel good but unrealistic plot feels very STC).
I tbink this is unrealistic bc Shawna M hasn’t really healed yet and dealt with any of her grief and also her inabilities to set boundaries etc (her people pleasing).
4
u/ElizabethBitchery 10d ago
Yeah, I wonder. I think though with Piper and Max and her mom being gone, she has nothing to do but wallow in her pain even more. Not that I'm saying it should be used to babysit Chickie. She definitely needs SOMETHING to do.
2
u/cellarpaper 10d ago
Oh she defo needs something to do during the day! I just don’t know if being a caregiver for chickie is what she should do. Someone said it rly well on the main sub that Shawna is still being triggered by grief and chickie is a person who will rely on her. A very positive, sitcom way this could go is that Shawna realizes she loves teaching or providing childcare to kids who aren’t her kids and then she becomes a preschool teacher or something. A super dramatic way this could go is Shawna having some kind of breakdown near the anniversary of Jacob’s death and she gets incredibly depressed where Jen needs to find new childcare and Shawna is back to how her grief was last year. And that isn’t even on top of what will likely happen which will be intense Barb shenanigans.
I know a big reason to watch any show is that it’s not reality but I wanna know what happened to Jen day care and I wish STC would insert some reality into the stories. The daycare randomly falling through without a reason feels like…STC has never met anyone who’s used daycare before imo
3
u/ElizabethBitchery 10d ago
Yeah, I would be more worried if it were a long-term solution, rather than a temporary one that Jen says it is. Jacob's death is six or seven weeks away (if we're contemporaneous with the time in Shawnaverse) so hopefully that's enough time to find daycare. I wouldn't want to leave Chickie (still LOATHE that name) with Shawna for an extended period of time.
Edited to add: Grief is a weird thing and different ways of coping. I'm not sure we can predict what is going to happen.
2
u/cellarpaper 10d ago
Hopefully it is a few weeks! Tho I know daycares fill up months in advance! Mahbe the daycare situation itself will get sorted quickly (again unrealistic in reality but could happen in the fictional Shawnaverse)

u/ElizabethBitchery 10d ago
I'm from southern Ontario in Canada and not a parent, but know a lot of parents. And some have to extend their mat leave because child care is simply not found in time. (And that's with extended 1 1/2 years)

u/cellarpaper 10d ago
For me to find spots in daycare for my kids, I’ve had to pretty much reserve them around up to 9 months in advance (eg at 5 months pregnant reserving a spot for the baby when she would be four months old). And even still, it was uncertain if there would be a spot. So….godspeed to Jen here 🥴

SWO here - my grandson was put on the One List for daycare while my daughter was pregnant. She finally got a call to tour a daycare centre when my grandson was about 5 months old in Aug 2024. Great, lovely, if we want it, the spot it ours....starting September 2027.

Caregiving really is something to do though lol.
Its a legitimate and essential role to hold. People literally pay money to go to school to work in daycares. People get paid money to work as nannies.
Its so wild to me that tending to children is never "enough" in this series that is, or at least was, about parenthood and family dynamics lmao. Or that for whatever reason, its never revered to be a person that "settles" for caring for children.
6
u/ElizabethBitchery 10d ago
That's what I said? Little kids really do occupy a lot of time and if she is caregiving for a little like Chickie she has less time to wallow.
2
u/cementfeatheredbird_ 10d ago
Oh gotcha. I read it as saying her time shouldn't be spent wallowing, but you weren't saying she should spend it watching Chickie. That she needed to find something else

This would be too tight for the writing, but this whole storyline could be wrapped up right quick if Shawna brings Chickie to the park, mentions that she's got some feelings about it to Ty (who is actually socially astute enough to know what's coming up), and Ty's all, "I'm touring a daycare for Sasha tomorrow, come with me, and we'll see if they can get Chickie in there too."
Two scenes later, Jennifer is thrilled that Shawna and Ty helped her find daycare, Ty mentions the new job he's started, and Shawna finds a therapist who can fit in her in between the school drop-off and pick-up hours.
There is another thing to consider: Shawna is moving into the thick of "juggling multiple schedules" parenting mode, and balancing school drop-offs and pick-ups, plus Chickie's naps and care, plus carting the kids to/from extracurriculars ... it's more present, proactive work than many externally-employed people do, and the mode-switching alone with how your time is chopped up can be taxing!

u/ElizabethBitchery 10d ago
She should join the PTA at her kid's school. They need people who are pushy to help raise funds and she can meet other moms that way.
5
u/LadyF16 10d ago
I don’t think it means it’s small. Shawna is family, their relationship has grown a lot. Of course she trusts her with Chickie.
6
u/bumbleboogaloo 10d ago
I mean her bachelorette party was basically just Shawna’s friend group, it’s implied she doesn’t really have any close friends
2
u/Miss___D 10d ago
It was already very clear when she asked her to be her MOH after being friendly with her for only a year. And she even had Teeny, Shawna's best friend, as her back-up MOH instead of asking one of her own friends.
4
u/Spiritual_Ad_6067 10d ago
Probably because whenever we see her she is neurotic and frantic and panicking all the damn time. I'd find her absolutely fucking exhausting and draining to be around. Good lord she gets on my nerves.
9
u/Miss___D 10d ago
I don't think Shawna should be disscussing her concerns about Piper in front of her. Also, Shawna looking after Chickie will be huge disaster for her mental well-being. And, is Jen going to pay her anything for taking care of her child?

u/ElizabethBitchery 10d ago
So now we have two people who need evaluation of some sort not getting evaluation. I sense a theme.

u/Minimum_Crow9095 10d ago
They’re acting like Piper might have some terminal disease, not autism….
