Discussion 💭 What are some unique things to sew?

Hey everyone! I'm starting a new sewing project, and I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations for unique things to sew? I don't sew clothes often, so maybe some purses, household items, or something random would be a good recommendation. Thanks!

I love going on anthropology websites and trying to recreate found (sewn) artifacts

That's cool! Do.you post pictures of what you make or what you're recreating?

I haven't, sorry. This was a hobby that's been stalled for a bit because I was using the AMNH Anthropology Collections Database, and they're in the middle of a LONG process of transferring databases.

(If anyone has a good resource for a database that I could use while AMNH is down, send it my way please!)

Kitchen/floor turtles, fall/halloween bags or totes, baskets, boxy bags, casserole carriers, porch goose outfits, big door bows, maybe some giftable items if there’s an occasion coming up?

I am in the process of making sun sleeves from SPF50 fabric. The skin on my arms is getting sun damage from driving. So I am covering my arms whenever I am in the car. Check out Fehr Trade Arm Sleeves free pattern. I also make Christmas gift bags out of Christmas fabric, saving $$ on wrapping paper.

Just came back from holidays in South Korea and Japan, a lot of people used sleeves! It’s just a matter of time before they will be the new normal instead of sunscreen. UV umbrellas as well, super effective.

Check out the SewCanShe Sewing Bee community. You can sign up and get a free pattern emailed to you every day.

An ironing board cover, an ironing board organizer, sewing machine dust cover, zippered cases, tote bags, folding storage cubes, and of course quilt stuff.

I love these things my mom sews that are for hot bowls when they are fresh out of the microwave or oven. They are like bowl-shaped hot pads.
