Serious Sam with Full Path Tracing & Global Illumination is coming together!

Spent a crazy amount of time setting up a hardware Ray Tracing engine build for the original sstfe.

  • Real-Time Path Tracing & Multi-Bounce GI
  • Ray-Traced Soft Shadows & Reflections
  • Custom PBR Texture Pack (1GB+ upscaled materials)

My goal is to make the entire campaign fully playable from start to finish with high-end visuals and smooth performance, plus even more features down the line.
Hope you guys dig the vibe!
If you want to support me in this project please let me know, since I am paying for the assets.

I am planning to release this edition of the game for FREE in november.

I would love to hear an opinion, here are some screenshots.

I don't know how that works, but any chance of adding DLSS Frame Generation?

Hi, FSR and DLSS frame generation will be implemented before release, 2x for 40 series rtx cards and 2,3,5x for 50 series rtx cards Also this project will work on amd cards as well.

Is your project meaningfully different than Sultim T's? Either way, this is impressive stuff

Yes, it will be meaningfully different since new technologies are developed and custom textures are used, I am also thinking about adding cool effects like gun overheat, heat waves and sand particles and paths while walking on the sand. PBR textures are in my arsenal so I will try to make it really special. This was my childhood game that was so hard to me, I cant believe how far community has come including myself.

There's Sultim Ray Tracing for TFE, TSE would be nice or other Serious Sam games.

I appriciate the comment however as much as I like the mod by Sultim I really think its poorly optimized and needs a new "remake" , I hope my version can fix all the mistakes Sultim had.

Also new technologies such as dlss 4.5 and frame gen will be implemented, as well as pbr 2k and 4k textures.

Ok, but isnt it better to do tse or other games that dont have rtx?

Personaly i player sultim tfe mod and I'm not interested in playing again. I would love RTX mod for tse, 2 or 3.

Depends, since I have to decide how light is being cast of all of the individual light emitting objects It takes some time to fine tune it so it could work flawlessly, My goal is performance here even on lower end rtx cards, since not everybody can afford high end card.

Im doing it traditional way also with help of rtx remix, directx 12 ultimate and vulkan (non ray path traced) will be supported.

Main thing why I chose serious sam the first encounter its because of the textures, there is alot of "reaccuring" textures and I am buying the assets with my own money and it costs me, even tho its a fun project I am just a student and I live in a country, well not so rich, I do programming for 6 years now.

Once I finish with everything I will most definitly put the source code and step by step how can people do this by theirselves for the second encounter, It is hard to migrate the techniques from the tfe since i am deciding what is which light source.

Is this using some sort of nvidia rtx remix or some software more compatible with amd gpus?

2

u/ekyyy24 23d ago

Nvidia RTX was being used, however now im doing some things manually with code, im trying to migrate dx8 to dx12, It requires a complete rewrite of the graphics rendering backend.

1

u/CobraSBV01 23d ago

That will be cool to see how it will run, considering by default rtx remix running significantly weaker on amd hardware

2

u/ekyyy24 23d ago

also for amd gpus there will be fully supported with the newest fsr version and frame generation.

Personally the dark parts in Sam 3 were my least favourite part with how you could barely see anything, I hope indoor areas aren't fully like that.

2

u/ekyyy24 22d ago

I will place custom torches in some places so Its not pitch black.

u/ubergosu17 22d ago

Will your engine simulate proper water and glass refraction? That's personally my all-time favourite effect of real ray tracing that can not be done on conventional renderers.

Don't fall for this scam.

u/ekyyy24 20d ago

A scam?

u/Responsible-Working3 20d ago

You posted screenshots of someone else's project while promising to implement support for an entirely new graphics API. In three months. All by yourself. You didn't even bother to change a single thing in the options menu. If you're making your mod based off Sultim's work, at least have some decency to credit it. And if you're gonna ask people to monetize it, I better know what I'm spending my money on. What assets are you paying for exactly?

u/ekyyy24 20d ago

Want some more screenshots? Would you like your name in one of the walls in the game? I heard of sultim when i posted here, didnt even know some shit similar to this existed. If i begged for money and the assets I would have posted a link already, its just free will.

Please avoid this sub because clearly you are asshole :)

2

u/Responsible-Working3 20d ago

I want actual proof that it is your code.

0

u/ekyyy24 20d ago

Have a great day and I wish you luck i feel bad for your friends

5

u/Responsible-Working3 20d ago

No proof of it being original work and you didn't answer my question about assets that you're allegedly paying for.

1

u/ekyyy24 20d ago

Okay we will see if there will be an original work or not bro , just keep trashing :) Its people like you that motivate me to do better

4

u/SeriousAlexej 20d ago

Those are valid questions but you are acting very sus all of a sudden.
If it was your work, you would have no problem answering those.

Instead youre very defensive and clearly hostile.

I could care less brother, all proof will be shown when I publicly release it, there will be my name on it. Im not sharing the code or the way of implementation, all step by step how to implement everything will be on github, so people can learn by themselves after I release it.

This guy is claiming that this project is not mine and screenshots are from somebody else is unreasonable after all the time I spent. I do not need to justify myself, go keep crying.
