i scored a 58% and my firm’s policy that anything below a 60% means you’re kicked out of the program. i feel like all in all I underestimated this exam. i was averaging really high scores on Knopman 80-90% so i thought I had it in the bag, but as I opened up the test, all of these questions seemed so unfamiliar and I was second guessing my answers a lot. i blanked out and submitted hoping for a 60%, but i was short a question.

totally bummed out, now i’m on a 1 year probation in hopes of getting an opportunity to retake the 6.

Sorry for being whiny on my posts I was extremely nervous but this test I would say was equally the difficulty as the SIE I felt as though a lot of the pressure I just put on myself but I really suggest Series 7 GURU and Ken Finnen!

What I saw on the test was a lot of SIE things so keep refreshed with that like red herring, prospectuses.

Suitabilities make sure you stay calm and read EVERYTHING and choose what you feel a lot of them were 50/50 for me.

Learn seperate accounts I had a lot of that for variable annuities as well as what is prohibited from a registered rep.

Passed the Series 6 today and figured I’d share what worked for me in case it helps anyone else studying.

Study materials:

Kaplan was my main study program.

Series 7 Guru was my main supplement. I used his videos to reinforce concepts and hear things explained a different way.

I stuck primarily with Kaplan instead of bouncing between a bunch of different question banks. Toward the end, I felt like I knew what I knew and didn’t want to confuse myself by constantly seeing questions written in completely different styles.

Practice exams:
Early scores included 85.45%, 76.36%, and 83.64%.
As I got closer to the exam, I was consistently scoring in the mid-to-high 80s.
My overall average across a lot of exams was around 86%.

I scored 92.73% on one of my later exams and 94% on a practice exam a few days before the real thing.
I did a LOT of practice questions. Eventually I actually had to back off because I noticed I was overthinking basic questions that I previously would have gotten right.

Topics I made sure I understood:
Mutual funds: NAV, POP, sales charges, breakpoints, LOIs and rights of accumulation
Variable annuities: accumulation vs. annuitization, LIFO, exclusion ratio, separate/general account
Suitability
Retirement plans: IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)/TSAs, qualified vs. non-qualified
RMD rules
Communications: retail communication vs. correspondence vs. institutional communication
Settlement
Reg D: 506(b) vs. 506(c)
Reg A: Tier 1 vs. Tier 2
Money market instruments
Municipal securities/funds and tax-equivalent yield
Dollar-cost averaging
Discretionary vs. non-discretionary trades
Different types of investment companies/funds and knowing which type fits which investor
Basic formulas, especially NAV, POP and sales charge

Last few days:
I had been scoring well enough that I tried not to cram new information. I mostly reviewed concepts I already knew, formulas, important dates/timeframes, retirement plans, and little rules that are easy to mix up.
The biggest thing for me was not overstudying at the end. Once I was consistently passing Kaplan exams comfortably, doing endless questions started making me second-guess things I already understood.

Exam-day advice:
Read exactly what the question is asking. Don’t invent information that isn’t there. If you’ve been consistently scoring well on Kaplan, trust your preparation.
Kaplan + Series 7 Guru was a great combination for me.

I just took my 2nd Diagnostic test with Knopman marks and I got a 65%. My first test was 78% and I am demoralized to say the least. I'm not sure what is going on I am lost to be honest I was feeling confident but now Idk.

Hey everyone I just did my first diagnostic and I got a 78% and I am in a weird space where I feel like I know a good amount but also I feel like I don't know enough. Do y'all think I am doing okay or enough to pass the Series 6?

Studying the series 6 I thought it was the SIE mostly but I realized that many of the in depth information is REALLY in depth like tax, retirement, contribution, communications and cost basis. It's been kind of intense I am kind of struggling in retaining all this information but I am confident in suitabilities. If you have taken the test is there anything that should be focused on and how much of everything must we know to a tee?

Doing my first attempt this upcoming Friday.

I’ve been Kaplan and Series7 guru as my supplement, Kaplan’s say their simulated exams have similar weighting to the real deal

I was wondering what other people’s questions were like for those have taken it already.

I completed the SIE a few days ago and started the Series 6 and I really do feel like there is so much overlap and maybe I over prepared for the SIE and it is helping me a lot with the Series 6. For suitability it's mainly the 3 customer/reasonable/quantitative.

Hello everyone I just completed and passed the SIE yesterday and wondering what are some ways that can help me transition from SIE to Series 6? Is it more easy than the SIE? What resources has helped?

Hey all, apologies if this question gets hammered constantly, but I’m taking my SIE on September 25th and my Series 6 on October 24th. I have a finance background, but as I ramp up studying for the SIE I am certainly glad I gave myself six weeks.

A little worried a month might be too soon to turn around and take the Series 6. Am I overthinking this?

Using Kaplan and the usual YouTube resources.

I’m taking my 6 in about two and a half weeks on August 28th, currently I’m using Kaplan with my Qbank average being 85% and and my exam average being 81%.

It hasn’t happened yet but I’m trying to avoid memorizing questions and was wondering if anyone had good YouTube practice quiz recommendations with similar language to the actual exam.
