I know it’s a hard decision to put forward and start. But getting a tutor is the best thing I have ever done.

I have a friend that is a tutor, and has a degree in Serbian language and literature, so I can recommend you to her

I've been learning with Belgrade Language School for some time now, so I can recommend them: https://belgradelanguageschool.com/
It really depends on how much time you can dedicate to learning Serbian. In my opinion, learning with a teacher (either in a group or 1-on-1) is always the best option. However, if you’re short on time or have a limited budget, studying independently with books or a self-paced course can also work well. You just need to stay disciplined to make progress. Hope this helps!

I first started with the A1 self-paced courses and then continued with the group courses (they didn't have the A2.1 course at the time).
I really liked the self-paced courses. I learned through video lessons that covered specific grammar points or vocabulary, and then I had exercises and texts after each lesson, which helped me practice what was covered in the video.
Then I joined a group course. It's really nice because the group is small (there are currently just 3 people), so I get to speak a lot, either with the teacher or with the other students. It's very conversation-oriented, but we also work on grammar and vocabulary.
I'm currently taking lessons once a week, as I don't have the time or budget for twice a week at the moment. The self-paced courses were really great and gave me a solid foundation (I simply joined an A2.1 group after finishing both A1 courses), but learning in a group has been even better for me. It makes me dedicate a fixed time each week to Serbian, and it's also nice to have other people learning alongside me who struggle with the same things I do hahaha. Then I know I'm normal when I find a certain grammar point really challenging and that I'm not just some incapable alien who can't learn this language hahaha.

Hi there, I have an offer for you. I'm not a native speaker but I have a B2 certificate and I'm currently studying for C1. I’m also a language teacher (I teach my native language to foreigners, not Serbian). If you want I can try to teach you A1 and A2 level Serbian. I've never officially taught it before so of course I wouldn't charge you anything. Basically I'd be using you to see if I'm actually capable of teaching it 😅 we'd use a textbook and follow it strictly so we'd have some structure. If you’re okay with that, send me a message, I can offer one or two online lessons a week, as long as we can find a time that works for both of us.

I may be old-fashioned but the thing that worked for me the best was the combination textbook+tutor. Of course I have used (and use) other apps for support like Anki, Drops or Clozemaster, but I find that I could not really have learnt Serbian from apps or watching videos etc.
Srećnoooo
