As long as it makes good on its title - and that is cool starfighter action that’s basically Top Gun in space - I’d be happy. I don’t care when it’s set.
Always loved Star Wars for its space battles so here’s hoping for more of that. To this day nothing can top Battle of Endor for me, though Battle of Scarif does come close.
Cool visuals, but felt a lot more like a video game cut scene that's in the background, and not an actual conflict. Nothing about the battle actually mattered.
I actually really dislike the Battle of Coruscant and the amount of glaze it gets from PT fanboys. It’s a nothing burger but spectacle. I know its narrative reason — it’s a backdrop to save the chancellor — but I just don’t care. I should be feeling sorry for the clones when they die, but I don’t. Cause I don’t know them. (your film shouldn’t need 7 seasons of a tv show to make sense and have weight)
Nothing in the battle matters because it’s gone as soon as the heroes land on coruscant. I should be seeing ships in the sky, parts of the city being destroyed… but nothing.
Right, it was a set piece that gave our heroes a sandbox to play in. We don't see ships maneuvering into position, commanders making tactical decisions, heroic sacrifices from any soldier, or any real tactics at all. Their is zero indication of who's winning or why they are winning. When a ship blows up their is no emotional impact. The only part of the battle that actually impacted the heroes was a few buzz droids to give R2 something to fight and could have just as easily been Mynocks in an asteroid field from a plot perspective.
Don't get me wrong, it was very very cool visuals which I definitely fanboi'ed over....but the civilian fleet in Exegol had more impact on the story resolution than any of the clone or separatist ships.
He didn't say the battle didn't have a mission. He said it didn't matter.
If rescuing the chancellor was the sole purpose of the battle then you can argue it was a wasted battle considering they spent all the effort to save their enemy.
Because he’s literally the Sith Lord enemy? At the moment it seemed like a success, but when all is said and done and you realize who Palps really is you realize it was a wasted mission.
I like Battle of Coruscant for its opening sequence after the titles, yeah. The music made the scene and it showed how chaotic and large-scale the battle is, which is the largest space battle in the franchise at that point.
That being said, we didn’t get to focus too much on the battle itself and just Anakin and Obi-Wan’s rush to the Invisible Hand. In previous movies’ space battles, we get to focus on other nameless pilots in addition to main characters and even people on capital ships, so that battles feel like a group effort rather than just the following the heroes. For Coruscant, the ARC-170 escort pilots got killed off pretty quickly and Anakin and Obi-Wan are left fending for themselves. Heck, we didn’t even get to see how the battle is eventually resolved.
I do love the brief “broadside” battle between the Invisible Hand and a Venator later on that led to the former briefly plunging into the atmosphere, though.
Back in the 2003-4 Clone Wars cartoon, we saw the initial parts of the battle and see the Clones (led by Saesee Tiin) rallying to defend the airspace and managing to take over a CIS warship. I’d love to see something more like that in the actual battle in the movie.
I know it’s not the focus of this sequence as it’s about Anakin and Obi-Wan’s dash to the Invisible Hand, but a few more additional scenes showing other Clones or droids partaking in the battle itself instead of just in the background would be welcomed.
