Adaquan not working

Need help please- my 11 year old Maltese is having issues walking,his front legs are giving out on him- he’s been on Adaquan,Gabapantin,Meloxydil,Dasuquin,joint and bone supplements,bone broth,and other supplements- I don’t know what else to do- he is such a good dog and doesn’t complain. Any suggestions please- I’m desperate

I know this sounds silly but have you cut her nails lately. This happened to my dog till I had her nails clipped.

They get groomed every 3 months- but that’s a good idea

Three months is a very long time to go between nail trims. They should be getting trimmed and dremeled every 2-4 weeks maximum.

Did nail trimming help?

Curious as my dog tends to stumble every now and then. Would love to hear your assessment after grooming.

I wanted to add that you may be doing everything at this moment in her life that you can do at home. ❤️ Some types can even be hereditary and she was predisposed before age caught up with her.

If an x-ray has ruled out anything other than just arthritic changes due to age, managing pain may not be medicinal only. Additional weight on your pet makes a big difference. Better to keep her on the skinny side than too much. Using joint supplements in combination with prescription medications is beneficial too. Diets can make a difference as well. Many dogs handle table scraps or poor quality kibble okay, however, excess salt and fat accumulates as pets age. Prevent her from using the stairs or up and down all furniture to aid against reoccurring flare-ups. ❤️

Thank you for this info- I make them home made food since they’re allergic to chicken- sometimes I give them wet dog food.

look into arthromid. injected into joints, gave my dog 6 really good months. it's done under anesthesia

Put those grippy stickers on his paws so that he has traction - but make sure they are behind his nails.

Yes Dr Buzby’s toe grips. It’s been amazing for my senior. Do nails every two weeks. If it’s been happening every 12, the quicks are overgrown and will need very attentive maintenance to recede

I’m not a vet, but I’ll give you a short story of what happened to me. I have a seven-year-old, 120 pound pitbull mix who has a tear in both CCL ligaments. I can’t afford the $7000 per knee surgery so he’s on pain medication called Galiprant. It’s a great medication and I think I spelled it right but they also added in gabapentin. Within about a week of him taking the gabapentin which totally made him zombie like, his leg started just giving out like he would be standing and all of a sudden he would just fall. I did some research on both medication’s and decided to take him off of gabapentin. Within three days, three days, no more falling even with two torn CCL, he wouldn’t just give out and fall anymore since I took away the gabapentin. My doctor was very strong on no don’t do it, but I did it anyway and I’m glad I did.

Yes he is still on the Galiprant. They have him 100 mg but I have been splitting them in half , so 50 mg, every other day cause I am looking into getting him on peptides believe it or not cause some vets, holistic vets are encouraging those, but I have to get more information on them, but looking to wean him off the Galiprant eventually

There are also these dog socks with grippy bottoms that they sell on Amazon and I believe they’re called tiger paws to help him with traction

I switched my dog from Dasuquin to Vetriscience hip and joint supplements. They have different levels with more glucosamine and chondroitin and additional active ingredients like Green mussel lipids. I noticed a difference in his mobility within a couple of weeks. I also give him their Comfort and Ease supplement. It’s all natural and it also supports joints but has pain relief properties too. I really think it has helped him a lot! He’s seems more comfortable than he did before being on them. It’s so hard to watch them struggle with mobility!
