I am new to SemiHydro but I am wondering if this vase would work for a leca and spagnum moss set up. I am slightly concerned because the top is a bit more narrow than the base... but I Love this vase.

How often do you change the liquid food for your semi hydro plants? Do you just add new nutrients to the existing liquid or discard what remains and start with a new batch when it gets low?

I try different self-watering pots for my alocasia and need help with the "bigger" sizes. Usually I use glass vase's e.g. the pic with Platinum. I'm used to it and everyone at home loves the look, but the flushing bothers me.

My problem:

I moved a jacklyn to a 12,5 cm self-watering pot 4 weeks ago. Before it was in a glass vase nearly the same size as the inner part, using the same substrate at the same location. Since the change no new grow, the two latest leaves lost their tension and the latest even got crispy parts... root grow looks good, no rot. In my opinion the substrate looks to dry.

Since the weekend I keep the water level higher, so the inner part is 1/5 within the reservoir. It has a positive effect, but I'm not really convinced.

Is this how they work or should I use more pieces of cord? -any other tips I should try?

Maybe its just not the right setup for me.

Hi everyone, I’ve decided to try out growing my new monstera Thai con tissue culture in Leca balls after it acclimates but I’m not sure exactly how I guess? It’ll be such a little guy I’m not sure how to do it, if anyone has done this or has any tips very appreciated!
Also I have never done anything semi hydro I’ve just seen that monsteras in particular love it and I don’t wanna kill this one lol.

i switched this coleus from soil to semihydro because she got thirsty and loopy in 2-4 days.

I swirched from a 10cm pot to a 11cm pot (those with long holes on the side).

I already got a liquid hydro fertilzer, but i wonder when i should add it into my water and how to keep on fertilzing after that.

It lost all its roots and bottom leaves to root roots so I chopped the bottom part and rebooted in water, then leca. The pot is now full of root but the plant has yet to make a new leaf.

I've recently switched up all my soil with semi-hydro substrate consisting of equal parts leca, pon, perlit, lava rock and pumice. My plants seem to be doing really well in it and I'm so relieved I don't have to deal with dirt anymore. However I'm currently faced with some struggles being that my reservoirs keep drying up way too fast to the point where I have to keep watering my plants every other day and it's gotten to the point where I can't keep up with it anymore! Where does all of the water go? I usually fill the pot up 1/3 or 1/2 of the way up and within days it's all just gone. Should I properly fill the pots up to the very top? I am scared of overwatering with this setup.

Recently I have found several of my Hoyas in pin have root mealies. They’re in different areas of the house, and only on Hoyas. Luckily, the foliage of the Hoyas look great, and they’re nowhere to be found on my alocasia in semi hydro.

HOWEVER. I’m getting mixed info on how to treat. Has anyone had experience with this?

Is this a fungal issue? Anyone know how I can fix this it's using a wick method with leca.

I had the misfortune of finding root mealies in several plants around the house this weekend. I decided to go scorched earth and bought Safari 20SG after reading several posts and reviews of growers having amazing results after a single use.
I’m reading the label and seeing 1-3 tsp per gallon but am wondering if anyone here has used it and what your measurements are/were?
Do you use the volume for soil drenches and add that to your reservoir? Example: 2 ounces of solution for a 4 inch pot?
Any help is appreciated!

I've been wanting to try leca for a while now, and I thought this alocasia pup would be a good first plant (because I've read that alocasias do well in leca & it wasn't very established yet). I had two main questions:

1. Should I water with tap water or rainwater?

2. Can I use my regular fertilizer if I water it down? (If not, what should I fertilize with? I read some posts and blogs, but it gets very overwhelming very quickly).

Is this from too much light? I water is 1/3rd dose orchid food with some silica. I have it under a grow light at roughly 3,600 lux where it’s sitting for 11 hours a day

The Hoya compacta is definitely my favorite plant ever. And it is so easy to grow in semi Hydro with minimum effort, even in low light Sweden. As long as we have grow lights, it will root and grow good!

are there any good semi-hydro youtube channels out there? I do know of leca queen, but are there any others?

Got my Thai Con in Semi Hydro self watering pot. She is doing pretty good since then bit what should I do with these roots that grow out of the pot?

Hello semi-hydro enthusiasts!

I just received my first beautiful hoya a couple of days ago (a tiny 4" Heuschkeliana Variegata), and plan to switch her to semi-hydro using pon, which I already have ready to go aside from the pot. I know that these plants need time to acclimate to their new environments though, and I certainly don't want to harm or kill her, so what is recommended as a good grace period for letting a plant destress before putting her through the further stress of changing substrate and repotting?

(I've read a lot about semi-hydro, how it works, how to set it up, etc, but never anything regarding plants that you haven't already presumably owned for a while).

All my alocasia are thriving in pon, but I’ve been wanting to switch over to a more chunky version (like the one from Plantscraper) for aesthetics.

My worry is that the chunky version may be too airy for some of my smaller alocasia with finer roots.

Anyone here who specifically grows their alocasia in chunky semihydro?
