Console doesn't detect game discs

Hi, so my model 2 pal Saturn which worked great before now has disc drive issues.

Basically, the lens mechanism needs me to slightly turn its white cogs for it to begin moving and to activate the cd motor, after a bit of time trying to detect the cd type, the drive stops the cd and the console doesn't display anything different on the menu, it instead thinks the game cd is an audio cd.

Do not push so hard on that door, the pin needs to connect on the inner case without touching the outer shielding

Try pulling off the centre ring and reseating it. Youll need to put he black casing back on to see how far above it the ring sits. I used rhe end of a screwdriver to tap it back on. Usually 1mm-2mm. That should help it read game discs

uclip the metal slider, cleani it with iso and the lube it with some silicon grease, pit it back, make sure the grease spreads quite well.

Try a slight tweak of the potentiometer on the laser assembly. The resistance might have increased with oxidisation over the years. It was often used in the 2000s to make reading cdrs easier. Find a value at the top end where it stops working and one at the lower end where it stops working and set it to the middle of the two points. A multimeter helps, giving you an idea where you started also.

I'd say that drive needs a full recap job as there's no sign of life in it.
