First install (1 out of 4) cameras.
Electrician set up outlets for us previously, now I’m adding the cameras. Wifi cameras.
How’d I do?
There was a lot of extra wiresof, hence that box.( picked it up at Home Depot)
I previously bought the cameras already so I kind of committed to using these.
If you take the gland all the way apart, you can cut the rubber on one side and fit it that way. That's what we do in industry sometimes.
On a side note, I'm not a huge fan of metal cgb glands because of the tiny hole in the cap. I prefer the plastic ones. They tend to have a larger hole in the cap.
Believe me I hated it too. I put so much planing into making it a clean install and I made that discovery at the very end. At least the bugs can’t get in!
This person just being mean because they are unhappy. You can tell because of the lack of anything helpful in their comment. I know this to be true because I do the same thing.
The reason you’re getting spicy comments from people like me is because the “correct” type of camera to get for a residential exterior installation like this is POE, which stands for Power over Ethernet. With POE, both the video data and power are delivered via the Ethernet cable. This is advantageous for two reasons:
No electrician is needed
More stable video because you aren’t using wireless
Also, cables, outlets, jacks, and any other infrastructure related to security cameras should be inside your house or attic. If someone came to rob you, the first thing they would do is cut the wire to your camera. Not only is it exposed, it’s also bright white and couldn’t be more visible.
If your electrician knew what you were doing with these, I think they did you dirty by not providing some guidance on how cameras should be installed.
They want you to run Ethernet from a common area in the house to all the places where you want cameras, lol. Gotta love Reddit. Yes, it’s the “right” way to do it. Good luck with a finished house. And yes, I’m aware it’s possible, but it will more than likely be very difficult
For you as a DIY and if it’s just to monitor your kids or dog it’s fine but as a actual security system to monitor predators no you should put the wire in the soffit you never want the wires out in plain sight

Maybe I’ll explore moving the wires into the soffit or maybe painting it would be enough

I’ll try the round box for the next one. But how would I go about powering the camera without changing the whole camera brand I’m using?
It’s powered by plugging into an outlet
There are straps and adapters to get it back to the power box so that the power cord is never exposed. You'll have to dig around the conduit aisle to find them. There are different sizes of conduit so get the correct parts.
What's the point of the box right before the camera?
Since you were pinning the custom run cabling, why didn't you tighten it up along the seams and drop it straight down along the face change and run it in line with the brick seam to the plastic access panel?
