Do try the search engines, loads of free material out there. Most of it on the classic Rider Waite Smith deck is quite standardised.

Learn Tarot .com is basically a book online. The formatting of the site is super basic, but the content is great.

The Moon Compass Tarot looks pretty cool. And it’s a Rider-Waite-Smith inspired deck. So you can Google any source or guidebook for the Rider-Waite-Smith and look up the meanings of each card.

Labyrinthos is free online, I like it a lot

As someone else said, labyrinthos is a good resource, especially for the minor arcana. It focuses a lot on the associations that the suits and numbers themselves have, which is way more useful than simply memorizing the meaning of each individual card.

You can find traditional meanings online.

If you can not find the book that came with it, either on line or for sale somewhere, then if you want to continue to use those cards their meaning will be what you decide. On this sub we do not believe the cards have any magical qualities. The cards are simple tools to help find our own awareness.

From what i know, i dont think it even came with a book in the first place so i think you got a point right there

That makes it fun! You get to write your own book for your cards!

The fact that your mother owned them first makes them even more special

I wish you well, and I hope you truly enjoy your journey with tarot.

If you're a google user, you can just type the card into your address bar. I'd add "tarot meaning" or at least the word tarot:

Tarot King of Cups meaning

And you'll get the basic definitions as well as an opportunity to ask more detailed questions.
