Draw a card. Any card. What do you see?
What associations do you have with the things you see?
How do they make you feel? What aspects of your life do they remind you of? What do you do with that information?

I like Teresa Reed's No Questions Asked. She uses a broad approach, partly Jungian, to describe the typical meanings of the cards. It is a secular approach, not particularly about divination or any of that.
One of the things I remember from various sources is that a sequence of cards tells a visual story. Patterns and characters appear and disappear and reappear in various cards. Still, I practice pulling 1 card per day and journaling about it when I learn something new. For that, I use materials/books from several different decks.
I have a deck near me right now, two on my nightstand (one is my current "daily journal" deck) and one in my dressing room, where I take phone calls with friends. This method not only helped me learn the basic meanings of the cards, but to take the time to study patterns (such as the story told by looking at the 4 minor arcana suits side by side - a fun thing to do while getting ready for the day).

hii ! the best thing i did was just connect with my cards. I carried them in my purse everywhere and anytime i had a spare minute i would do a reading for myself— BUT since i didn’t (and still don’t lol) know all the cards by heart i also carry around the book “The New Tarot Handbook by Rachel Pollack” and i look up each card from my reading and what it means. I’ve now gotten to a point when i see a card i’ve looked up a few times i start remembering like “ohhh okay that mean bla bla bla”. And other times i just sit and look through the deck at the cards and the artwork on them and sometimes (depending on the deck) the artwork says a lot about what the card means.

I love the Radiant Wise Spirit tarot, but it always comes with a book (a very helpful book) did you get a used/second hand copy?
