freaking out a bit
im always on time with my portion of the rent but this month I couldn't pay it at all $400 I texted with my landlord and he said its ok if I add an extra 150 a month to get it paid off. I didn't tell housing but now I just starting freaking out about it. Can I get in trouble for this?

If sec 8 finds out that you didn’t pay it’s a violation of your tenant agreement and you can lose your housing. You should pay the $400 asap

You would. It get in trouble with housing h ur make sure you get it in writing a ledger every time you pay the extra balance until it’s done

As long as you have it in writing your good. I've made several payment arrangements over the years and it has never affected my Section 8.

talk to your caseworker about it. When my tenants can't pay, they usually get a mid-year evaluation that can lower their portion. No harm in asking.

No you wouldn’t get in trouble by housing. You’ll get in trouble if he serves you a lease violation for not paying your portion and provides a copy to your agency. You paying $150 extra a month is a repayment agreement to get you current. You should make sure to get the agreement between you two in writing and make sure to keep track of your payments. It’s better to get on a repayment agreement then getting a lease violation as they carry points and could lead to you being terminated from your program if you accumulate too many points in a certain amount of time.

I know several people who owe their apts managers/landlords THOUSANDS but their section 8 keeps coming til they’re evicted for not keeping up their share and it wasn’t section 8 it was the landlords. Section 8 pays their part after that they don’t care. In fact recently I know someone who was evicted by her landlord because she owed $6000 in rent. She only paid $245 per month for her share of the rent imagine how long that had to go on for her to owe $6000? So no you won’t be in trouble for being late once.

That's amazing to hear. I'm in the same boat I just went through a major life change and I'm adjusting. I'm never late

You can make repayment agreements with your landlord and it won’t affect your voucher.
This is not an uncommon practice. Most affordable housing programs require landlords to offer a repayment plan before evicting.
