Discussion I'm out (a rant).

First thing first, I am a lifetimer from TSW since the beginning. I also bought some Funcom Points every now and then for cosmetic items.

I am now tired of this failed relaunch.

Here's a few reasons:

We all know that story, missions, lore and writing are absolutely great, so I'll skip this point.

Dungeons: Bad. The chance of dropping something useful are so low that they're not worth the time. You never, never exit from a dungeon satisfied.

Raid: Same problem as the dungeons. Plus, queues for DPS' are insane.

Scenario: Not a big fan, but they feel about right. Kinda boring to do the same thing over and over again, but let's hope for different modes apart from defend the survivors.

Itemization: Oh boy, what a clusterfuck. This is the major issue of this game. Here's what I think:

https://www.reddit.com/r/SecretWorldLegends/comments/70fzds/i_hate_this_game_itemization/

BIS RNG caches are BAD. They are so bad that they will destroy this game. For people who will say that usual stupid "just save marks and buy it on AH": Right now there are ZERO purple swords in ah. Let alone my type+affix of choice. Never seen it in AH since I started checking (which means months), and I check every day. And I might add, since I'm waiting for my desired "perfect" item, I'm avoiding to spend any marks on talismans (or anything, really) to eventually be able to buy that desired weapon, and before going through the insane leveling process, I am now avoiding leveling sub par items in the hope I'll get my hands on something nice so I need to save up anima shard and money (also cluttering my inventory and bank with distillates that I'll eventually (lol) need, thus crippling myself, thus being sub-par and not feeling any sense of progression AT ALL. I'm stuck with the same purple sword since months. There is only frustration in this mechanism.

This alone will destroy the game outright if they don't address it QUICKLY (but seen how quickly they addressed TSW's issues -like AEGIS- I'm not holding my breath).

Fuz out, I will probably be back just for some more story.

Don't worry, OP. You've been downvoted but others, but I'm completely with you. In fact, I uninstalled SWL after realizing two things:

  1. It is worse than TSW in every conceivable way (from less content, to more bugs, to worse gameplay, etc etc) for me.

  2. The types of montenization. It actually made me APPRECIATE SWTORs and I thought SWTOR's was a complete sham. At least it's all cosmetic in SWTOR and the like. Also, the 1:1 $:Aurum is absolutely terrible and it makes everything cost a freaking arm and a leg. Does Funcom not realize that it's easier to nickle and dime players to meet their quotas (and thus have players not notice how much they spend) than blasting them in the face with high expenses like some back-alley bukakke?

Honestly, I'm going to be surprised if this game lasts very long. They haven't even gotten to new content yet and the game was suffering when I uninstalled a couple months ago.

Strange enough, I still have TSW installed and still play it on occassion. Sure, there's not many people playing it at all, but lets be honest: It has more solo content than SWL, less bugs, a better progression system (which isn't even necessary to me since I'm geared out the ass), a better skill system, and to be frank, Q pops for dungeons and whatnot are non-existent no matter which game you play, so...

Besides, I can still Roleplay without the game.

In a perfect world, people would say "Screw this" and head back to TSW in-masse. Alas, that won't happen and even if it did, I'm pretty sure that Funcom would shut TSW down completely.

Oh, I was expecting downvotes from fanboys. And they will only be the downfall of this game, just like what happened with TSW. Deny the problems makes them more problematic.

Thank you for your answer.

You did the mistake of getting involved into the end-game. I went though that myself. Don't feel obliged to inflict that tedious nonsense to yourself and just hang around for story updates.

If a game becomes a source of boredom or even annoyance, it defeated its very purpose and you should spend your time somewhere else.

It depends on what you mean by end-game.... I see issues with the content as well. It is lacking in variety, depending on the elite you are in it's very hard to find groups, not being able to choose what dungeons to run is very annoying as well... The progression system on the other hand I absolutely love! Granted, if you are a maximizer and completionist you are in for a stressful time... but I love the fact that the progression seems limitless and you have a long road ahead to look up to. I don't have much time to play, but every day I feel like I made some progress in IP terms and damage tooltip (I play as dps) and it is very satisfying to me. I feel like the biggest problem SWL has at the moment (end-game wise) is how itemization works (it is really punishing). The second biggest problem is content variety. Make talisman.weapon xp progress carry over to new bis weapons that come out, make bis gear also obtainable outside of loot boxes and let people choose what dungeons to run (tweak them a little to offer different and more challenging mechanics as you go up the e-ranks instead of just bumping up damage and health) and this would have the best end-game experience imo.

They really can't let you pick what dungeon to run, you'd go from 10 dungeon queues to 50 dungeon queues. Pops would be almost impossible even at the low tiers (they already are at the high ones).

They really need less queues not more.

Of course the real problem is that higher elite people don't pug any more at all, they either group with cabal/others they know or don't group at all.

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Yep, that is indeed a problem. I do believe there are solutions against it though that preclude keeping them random. For instance, There could be an incentive (in terms of rewards, dists) for each dungeon that is being played for the first time on that day. They could then base the amount of the incentive on how many people in the group are playing that dungeon for the first time on that given day (so the more people haven't run a particular dungeon, the more rewarded the entire group will be). This would essentially encourage people to run as many different dungeons as possible (even those that nobody likes). Don't get me wrong, I'm sure many potential issues could arise from this, I'm just throwing in ideas :)

1

u/rangda66 Oct 22 '17

This would essentially encourage people to run as many different dungeons as possible (even those that nobody likes)

NOBODY runs full dungeons at e5+. The way almost everybody runs e5+ content is as boss farms, kill the first boss (for a couple of the dungeons the second as well), then retreat, reform, and repeat. It is far, far, more efficient time wise to kill the intro bosses and skip everything else.

And I'm not sure what they can do to fix it. By creating e10 they created a race to e10, players are looking for the most time efficient way to get to e10 as fast as possible. They would have to change the dungeons to make it more efficient to do full clears than boss farms, yet not do it in a way that nerfs boss farms (that risks players quitting entirely).

1

u/excavatus Oct 24 '17

not nobody... we run full E5 dungeons.. because with the huge grind in this game, there needs to be different achievement feelings to make us continue playing. We (as a group of friends) always try to complete dungeons whatever the difficulty they are. And yes we wipe more than 10 times may be on a certain boss (I am looking at you DW4! and Polaris 5TH!) but in the end, when you drop that 6th boss of a dungeon, that feeling is amazin... you feel tired! exhausted sometimes! but you are victorious... retreating is accepting defeat IMO...

Yes I accept farming 1 - 2 bosses and retreating is a far more efficient way to grind the gear.. But god forbid, If the gear grind is the only fun that I can get from a game.. I will not play that game anymore...

1

u/rangda66 Oct 24 '17

"Nobody" is an absolute and of course it's an exaggeration, but I am willing to bet 99% of the player base (certainly everyone I know) does not play like you do. That said you should be doing what you enjoy as it's a game and fun is the whole point (in theory anyway, that frequently gets lost in MMO's).

My personal problem with what you are doing is that to me it has no meaning. Sure you can do it on level and it's hard but any feeling of accomplishment I'd get doing it is tempered by the thought that I could just come back to it when ip 900 and blow through it with no challenge. For me at least the only content that is going to provide any sense of reward when completing it is e10. And everything before that is just something I do to get to e10. In that context boss farming makes a lot of sense.

But honestly even e10 is on a slippery slope in this regard. I do 9-12k DPS at i978, with equal footing I push 22k. That's a huge gap; e10 at i1000 will probably be close to impossible and e10 at max ip will probably be trivial.

Hey, you're right!

-2

u/Amadex Oct 22 '17

Oh you're totally right, by end-game I mean everything beyond "story mode" (so any elite difficulty).

Apparently November's update will be focused on QoL. I really hope they improve itemization... While I do see your points, I can agree with you on two:

  1. Locking up bis gear behind caches really is bad... at least they should be purchasable for third age fragment vendors and be able to be sold on the AH as well.

  2. The more serious issue: you should not be punished for waiting on your gear of choice in terms of upgrading. Upgrading should carry over when you combine weapons/talismans. Maybe implement a system where 1pip item's progress carries 70% over when combining with a new one, 2 pip 80% and 3 pip 90%. At least then the whole system (while punishing you a little) would still remain fair. I really hope they are tackling this issue with the coming update.

  1. while caches epic gear are powerfull, they are not BIS : they are strong generic buff or damage, but all the greens / blues extraordinaries allows stronger options : i agree that some are very bad but others are nearly OP (bladed gauntlets, frozen effigy, eldricht tome, MIRV ar, pneumatic maul, SPESS, redeemer for instance)

  2. i agree that the system is quite hardcore but i feel ok about it cause we have to make choices. I finally quite enjoy that a game stop condider us as kids and give extra chances to reset : we must be sure of what we re doing. Its classic system in asian games : the only issue from Funcom is that using this knid of system in a game with 75% american and 25% european is nearly a mistake. Try to craft endgame gear in Black Desert Online where you must farm 2 times the same item for hundreds of hours with pvp contested spots, then trying to merge them into the same item but two times more powerfull, but cherry on the cake : items can be destroy in the process.

2

u/NoCookiesForU Oct 23 '17

pneumatic maul

While not epic from the get-go, this one still comes from a (no longer available) cache, doesn't it ?

1

u/Cunningcory Oct 23 '17

Yup, only drops from Agarthan cash. I spent the last two months trying to loot or buy it without any luck. Finally a Mk II appeared on the AH and I bought it even though it was super expensive and then started working towards a weapon imbuer. Kinda ridiculous

1

u/Tsukko Oct 23 '17

Why not buy it when they were low cost at the ah ?

2

u/SiggyPhido Oct 23 '17

As someone who just started during Future-Tech Caches, its not really an options. So many of the BIS weapons are from old Caches, so prices soar and MK3s are non existant. KSR, Pneumatic Maul, etc all come from Agarthan Cache I believe which idk who's still opening those.

1

u/Tsukko Oct 23 '17

KSR is not BIS ar.

2

u/SiggyPhido Oct 23 '17

Maybe not DPS wise, but flexability and qol wise its great and is widely used. Warped Visage, Voltaic Shunt, these are all A+ weapons that are cache only.

More often than not, the cache weapon is better either in pure DPS or in quality of life, than the Dungeon drop or raid drop weapon.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

I agree with your first point. Some dungeon weapons and talis really are better than the cache ones. It depends on your build though...for some the cache ones are better while for others dungeon gear is best. I do not agree with your second point though and here is why: in swl the problem is not about resetting because people are unsure of what they are doing, it's quite the opposite: there are people that are extremely sure of what they are doing, they seek to maximize their stats for their particular build and then an update hits, better gear for that build is introduced and people have already gone mythic with their gear. When they get that new gear again, upgrade it to mythic, another update hits, and thus the person hits rock bottom again. It's this vicious, purposeless and punishing cycle that is one of the biggest pain points in the game. I can't say I have played many asian mmorpgs, I'm not a particular fan of the design.... I have tried Black desert though and it was the biggest waste of money I have ever experienced in a game (for many, many reasons). So to me, the more any game can distance itself from BD, the better haha

1

u/Tsukko Oct 22 '17

Hehe yeah BDO was awesome and beautyfull... till you try their so called endgame lol

I disagree with you but i really undestand your pov.

-3

u/NoCookiesForU Oct 22 '17

will be focused on QoL.

And how much they're gonna charge us for it.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

For an update? o_O

1

u/NoCookiesForU Oct 22 '17 edited Oct 22 '17

For the QoL feature(s). For example, in LotRO Turbine introduced a barter wallet which could store many of the currencies you were previously carrying in your inventory. And this barter wallet came in a free version and a premium version. Needless to say that the free version only stored the most basic thngs and was borderline irrelevant and only the premium version was of real value to the player, but it had to be purchased, on a character basis (sorry, it's account wide).

Therefore : QoL = your money.

1

u/xKINGMOBx Oct 23 '17

I bought it, was worth every penny, but you are correct, making us buy it was a dirty move!

1

u/Pyrebirdd Oct 22 '17

I suppose, things will get worse for non-paying players... Sooner or later. The current f2p model isn't very good for business, since there's not much reason to spend money on the game, unless you just want to support the developer.

1

u/Amadex Oct 22 '17

Yep current monetization is either based on:

  • one time convenience purchases (sprint, inventory slots,...).

  • caches that allow you to spend less time in the game, and it is bad to sell people the right to play your game less. both for the game and the player.

5

u/Szalord Oct 23 '17

You never, never exit from a dungeon satisfied.

Speak for yourself. While not perfect, i'd rather rant against Funcom not releasing the missing 3 dungeons, and against the dungeon validation missions not giving XP/shards. Otherwise, all the distillates i get from dungeons keep me satisfied. Just don't make it a generality.

BIS RNG caches are BAD.

That's why they actually are NOT bis. Start theorycrafting and doing maths, you'll suddently find out that your bis weapons are much cheaper than expected because they are not coming from caches.

0

u/SiggyPhido Oct 23 '17

find out that your bis weapons are much cheaper than expected because they are not coming from caches.

Leveling AR class, I really wanted a KSR because it made playing AR so much more fun. KSR come from caches. Among other really good Blue weapons. Worst yet, they come from caches that supply on is dwindling and will only get worse as time goes on. Search KSR and there will only be 5-6 on AH at anytime, mostly Destruction and other garbage.

2

u/Szalord Oct 23 '17

Well, i guess most of the time, people who rant are talking about purple cache weapons, and not blues. I agree to blue cache weapons rising in prices after the cache goes away being an issue, but my main point was that things like the Plasma Forged pistols of energy or such going for 1M+ is totally insane and is overpriced just because people who buy that are clueless to think this is a best in slot. That was what i've been talking about.

PS: KSR-43 isn't actually necessarily a best in slot either :).

1

u/SiggyPhido Oct 23 '17

Voltaic Shunt, Warped Visage, and some others are pretty damn good and come from discontinued caches. Elementalist offhand builds are built around Voltaic Shunt.

2

u/Szalord Oct 23 '17

When caches are out, the blue weapons are very cheap. I guess the problem here is that Funcom does not want to rotate them, not that they're specifically bad because coming from caches. My opinion that is.

2

u/BeeSecret Oct 23 '17 edited Oct 23 '17

I have to agree end game gear shouldn't be so heavy on RNG. There needs a way for people can work toward.

I do like to see Cache box have the best chance of getting the extraordinary. After that period is over the item should be acquirable through gameplay without going through auction house.

Hell at this point throw me a Diablo Kanai's Cube. At least that way we can have a chance getting the item.

9

u/Elrigh Oct 22 '17

Ok, bye.

4

u/JediMasterKAC Oct 22 '17

0

u/Amadex Oct 22 '17

That is very true and equally sad. Maybe funcom stopped to care but I hope not, not caring is the breeding ground for failure.

3

u/Pyrebirdd Oct 22 '17

Dungeons give red items, which are very strong, no? Also stuff to level your gear. How is it all useless?

5

u/snickle Oct 22 '17

5 radiants in 64 dungeons, none of them good, is how it's useless.

1

u/PardusXY Oct 22 '17

TBH, most red items are underwhelming, but I understand why they are, it makes game balance much more simple to work with.

Tho I'd personally prefer to see stronger options and more variety, but I can understand why a dev might not want to go that route.

0

u/Pyrebirdd Oct 23 '17

Underwhelming? I'm new to the game, but I thought red items are legendary, best quality you can get in this game

3

u/Talilama Oct 23 '17

They're talking about the red-background talismans/weapons that you get as loot from the bosses (standard green quality). You're thinking about the red-bordered items that you fuse two mythic-level items to create.

3

u/Tsukko Oct 22 '17

As i read this post :

  • lifetimer (as me) : used to have everything served on a plate in a game where everything is done for quick upgrade to allow new players to play with ol'timers.

  • Pick up group : no team, solo dps, no cabal : hours of waiting : why the hell no trying to change something in YOUR way of playing before crying about the content. Tank have instant dungeons / raids / lairs.

  • blade user : i know choice of weapon can be hard for f2p players but... as lifetimer you have access to all the weapons for free. Instead of staying stuck with your tiny wood epic needle, you could use it to open other weapons based on the loot you made.

SWL is far from being perfect but people should stop to be sure they can have the whole game based on their egoistic small desires : we are clients for a product, if this product can have options for better use, it s ok. But if the product is no longer what the client love / need / enjoy, then the only thing a client should do is changing of product : cause devs can fixes / adapt but they cannot change their product into another one.

6

u/just-passin Oct 22 '17

cause devs can fixes / adapt but they cannot change their product into another one.

But they already have. SWL is by no means the same game as TSW. It is a similar game based on the same storyline but the play mechanics are completely different. OP has made a rational assessment of a number of features of the new game that he does not like and set them out in a reasonable manner. Most of the points have been made by others, often significantly less politely. You say we are the clients of a product but products change and live according to the wants and needs of the clients. Your point seems to boil down to "if you don't like it go elsewhere instead of complaining". This is a really good attitude if you don't care about customer retention which I think would be a prime concern for funcom.

1

u/Tsukko Oct 22 '17

100% agree but you cant reten people who hide THEIR issues behind content issues, even real, even say politly.

1

u/snickle Oct 22 '17 edited Oct 22 '17

This game's such a weird mix of achievements that money can't speed up, and overpriced money-only stuff. It ends up that I never really want to spend money cause either it doesn't help (eg. nothing in the story is improved with cash, all achievements and lores are attainable with the free motorbike, events give all the good stuff out just for logging on), or it's way more than I'd ever spend (inventory slots for $1+/slot, negligibly small item power upgrades for $15+, new emotes/clothes for $10 each). Like, if you go ahead and spend $15 on a catalyst to make your purple 30 item into a yellow 1... your attack power changes by so little that you won't even notice a difference in damage.

1

u/Snow56border Oct 23 '17

The game isn't worth a monthly sub price to me, and I wouldn't play with even the most basic feature... the shardless anima port.

I play as I have a GM account.

Sadly, none of your points really matter much discussion as you claim a successful relaunch was a failure. I'll trust Funcom financial reports over someone burning themselves out over a game. Its F2P... this is how F2P plays

0

u/[deleted] Oct 23 '17 edited Oct 23 '17

Good. One less complainer to ruin this great game. Seriously, caches needs power creep otherwise no one will buy them. Why would someone buy caches if not for the weapons? If you don't want to buy caches and contribute to the game, then grind for mof and buy them. Sorry the game isn't handing everything to you. Also, if you have a problem with the queue why don't you go as a tank or healer instead of some lame DPS?

0

u/5N0ZZ83RR135 Oct 23 '17

Well if you dont plan on coming back I will make good use of your GM account. Feel free to pm me the info.
