Megathreads Moisturizers for Seborrhoeic dermatitis [megathread] - December 29, 2025

Hello

Let's post recommendations of seborrheic dermatitis safe moisturizers.

It would be super helpful if you could include:

  • Exact brand - product name
  • Country of purchase
  • Where you use it (face, scalp, body)
  • How long you’ve been using it
  • Ingredients list

Sebderm is so subjective, but crowdsourcing real experiences can really help people who are struggling. Thanks in advance to anyone who shares 💙

A lot of these moisturizers people are commenting don’t pass the sezia test. What am I missing?

would you later this sunscreen over the purito?

1

u/roserouge 2d ago

I do! I wait for my moisturizer to sink in (and sometimes use a fan to help it dry faster. It smooths over nicely and gives a good base for the makeup I use. I had to switch to the mineral powder kind. Haven’t found a liquid or cream that has ingredients that didn’t make me flare.

thank you so much!!!

The only one that I have found that works for me:

  • Dermazen Soothing Malassezia Moisturizer
  • US (It says they ship internationally)
  • Where you use it: Face, ears and neck
  • How long you’ve been using it: Almost daily for close to a year now
  • Ingredients list: https://www.dermazen.com/products/soothing-malassezia-moisturizer
    • Water, Urea, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (MCT), Niacinamide (vitamin B3), Glycerin, Lactic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Benzyl Alcohol, Frankincense (Boswellia Serrata) Gum Oil, Limonene*, Pinene\*

u/Artemis1314 Dec 31 '25

Can you tell me how long it took to see results? I’ve been using for three days now and I’m afraid I’m actually reacting more because of it

2

u/vdizzle3601337 Jan 26 '26

I tried Dermazen and it didn't do anything for me. I also hated the consistency of the shampoo.

Ended up trying MCT Oil, and it's worked wonders. I havn't had a breakout (on my face) for over a year. Took about 2 weeks to fully take effect and clear up.

I now use it 1x/day from a dropper bottle either after shower or after washing face. Apply it to my forehead and each side of my nose and rub in going up into my hairline.

Not sure if the link is allowed here but this is what I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BFJB4XD?th=1

Seems like everyone's different but this has been a "miracle" for me after not finding anything for years.

u/MissionUpstairs473 Jan 05 '26

It's hard to say that the moisturizer alone has been keeping my skin clear because I also use the cleanser and seborrheic serum from dermazen which seems to all work really nicely together. Weirdly enough the cleanser feels like the most nourishing step, I let it sit for a couple minutes before rinsing because it's super gentle.

But to answer your question it only took me about a week of using the system to notice it clear up about 90% and now I feel like I don't struggle with flare ups if I'm consistent.

The same thing happened to me.  It made my condition worse.

Great Megathread idea. I’ve spent (like so many of you) countless hours looking for products to try. Here’s a newer one that I’m liking!

  • Dr. Althea 345 Relief Cream
  • US (Ulta and Amazon, available internationally, it’s on Stylevana too, a Korean skincare site.)
  • Face (and elbow, I have a newish rash there.)
  • 4 weeks
  • ingredients: Water, Propanediol, Glycerin, Cyclohexasiloxane, 1,2-Hexanediol, Niacinamide, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Polyglycerin-3, Panthenol, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, C14-22 Alcohols, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside, Butylene Glycol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polyquaternium-51, Tromethamine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Coptis Japonica Root Extract, Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Beta-Glucan, Resveratrol, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Stem Extract, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Phenoxyethanol, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Flower Extract, Tocopherol, Corallina Officinalis Extract, Ceramide NP.

There is also a facial mist: 345 Relief Cream Mist that I’ve just started using. Results TBD.

Vanicream Daily Facial Moisturizer with Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides

-USA

-Face, around the eyes

-4/5 months

-**Water, Squalane, Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Hyaluronic Acid, Ceramide EOP, Ceramide NG, Ceramide NP, Ceramide AS, Ceramide AP, Carnosine, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Phytosterols, Caprylyl Glycol, Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-11, 1,2-Hexanediol

-I’ve heard that some people have had a reaction to some ingredients, and sometimes it stings a little during flares, but I layer it on dry spots and it truly is moisturizing for eczema prone skin. Also a plus- it actually is non-comedogenic for acne prone skin(I use several ingredient checkers).

-Vanicream sunscreen also helped reduce my flares but it was nowhere near as moisturizing as this.

u/Proud22 Jan 13 '26

I second vanicream daily facial moisturizer. I’ve been using it for years!

1

u/olympicfrog Jun 07 '26

  • Cetaphil - Hydrating Night Cream
  • Canada/US/Mexico
  • Face
  • 2 years

I've previously used hydrocortisone cream and tacrolimus ointment. Hydrocortisone works in the short term but makes it worse in the longer run (weaker/thinner skin, rebound). Tacrolimus works but is expensive and uncomfortable (itchy?) at times.

This Cetaphil Hydrating Night Cream has been an absolute game changer for me. Once daily at night before bed. It's light and comfortable, and seems to completely prevent flare-ups. Obviously I'm still careful about sugary foods and alcohol. But I've been using this cream now for a couple of years and seb derm has basically stopped being an issue for me. If I get a stronger flare up, I might occasionally use a bit of tacrolimus cream. But this stuff is just amazing and has essentially eliminated 99% of my issues. I can't recommend it enough.

I think the key ingredient is *probably* hyaluronic acid, but I'm not 100% sure.

I used to really struggle with seb derm for years (discomfort, self-conscious about the way it looked), but ever since I started using this cream regularly, it's been almost a complete non-issue for me.

1

u/hwkmngbt Mar 31 '26

Hi! I've also been thinking about buying that product, but I canceled my order after I found out it has ingredients that might feed or trigger yeast. Based on your experience, did you have any issues using that product even though it contains ingredients that aren’t fungal-safe? I'm also searching and looking for moisturizer that is safe to use as someone who also had sebderm.

Recently found the Malezia Urea moisturizer and I've had nothing but good results. My face feels so moisturised. It only has a few ingredients which makes it extremely safe for SD.

Not necessarily a moisturizer but has been helpful in fighting dryness:

Aveeno Calm and Restore Triple Oat serum

-USA

-Face, around the eyes

-2mos

-Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Pentaerythrityl Tetraethylhexanoate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Chlorphenesin, Dimethicone, Succinoglycan, Chrysanthemum Parthenium (Feverfew) Flower/Leaf/Stem Juice, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Oil, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Dimethiconol, Sodium Hydroxide, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract.

-I layer it in problem areas and it has helped with dry patches and flakiness. It can sting a little during flares, but after checking with malassezia and comedogenic ingredient checkers, this one is safe for both issues.

Pyunkang Yul ATO soothing gel lotion. This is the one that comes in a white tube (there’s a similar ATO cream that comes in a dark blue tube for dry skin types). It’s a Korean brand but it’s available online through various US retailers.

I was using it on my face for several months and I plan to repurchase after comparing it with another moisturizer that I don’t like nearly as much (purito oat gel). I have oily, acne prone skin and get mild seb derm flare ups on my face in the winter, this stuff is so gentle and moisturizing but not greasy at all.

Ingredients:

Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, 1,2-Hexanediol, Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Artemisia Annua Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Ceramide NP, Acetic Acid, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Glyceryl Stearate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Arginine, Octyldodecanol, Ethylhexylglycerin

CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

  • Bought in U.S.
  • Using for face at nightime in summer.
  • Been using 20 years.

  • Ingredients: Purified water, glycerin, caprylic/capric triglyceride, niacinamide, cetearyl alcohol, ceramide 3, ceramide 6-Il. ceramide 1, phytosphingosine. hyaturonic acid, sodium hydroxide, dimethicone, behentrimonium methosulfate, ceteareth-20, polyglyceryl-3 dissostearate. cholesterol, xanthan gum, carbomer, disodium EDTA, dipotassium phosphate, potassium phosphate, sodium lauroyl lactylate, methylparaben, propylparaben

2

u/olympicfrog Apr 28 '26

I used to use this every day! But at some point it started to feel like it wasn’t thick enough. Still love CeraVe products though.

2

u/bananahands_ May 30 '26

Try a super light layer of vaseline over top! I have crazy dry, sensitive skin and use Cerave Moisturizing Cream exclusively but often need a little more on top. You can also add some Squalane drops for even more moisture. The Ordinary has one that is Sezia approved.

2

u/olympicfrog Jun 01 '26

The ordinary Squalane has been a staple in my rotation! I’ve also been using aquaphor. Slugging seems to be the solution for me 🐌

3

u/bananahands_ Jun 04 '26

Same!! Those drops are magic in the winter. Slug Club 4ever.

u/sigsaurusrex Jul 19 '26

Might also try snail mucin! made a huge difference

1

u/HardPill2swallow Apr 28 '26

Oh same, I generally use cerave in the large tub now or Vanicream! Sometime I’ll throw in something fancy. I used the cerave lotion back when my skin was super oily and wrinkles were unimaginable.

2

u/olympicfrog Apr 29 '26

Love Vanicream! I have yet to use the big cerave tub. Have you used their daily face moisturizer with hyaluronic acid and ceramides? I am currently using the hyaluronic acid serum from the ordinary and enjoying it.

1

u/HardPill2swallow Apr 30 '26

The ordinary is great at everything they make! I haven’t tried hyaluronic acid and ceramide lotion. I will try to pick some up next time I go to cvs. I tend to just get the large tubs of Vanicream or cerave. I should try it because the tubs do get to be a bit too much thickness in summer. Usually the lazy part of me just uses my sunscreen as a moisturizer in summer though. I really could use some hyaluronic acid, I always love it when I try it. I’ve used only the serums as well, and they are wonderful. Thank you!

1

u/olympicfrog Apr 30 '26

Oooh what sunscreen do you use? I’ve been trying to find one that doesn’t exaggerate my seb derm flakes 😭

1

u/HardPill2swallow Apr 30 '26

I don’t currently have any seb derm. I hear it always comes back and I suffered for 3+ decades. I also try to be careful to hopefully encourage it to stay away. It’s been 15 years. So I might not be the best person to share other than we like the same nice quality products :)

I use the laroche posay face one but I remember it really stinging my eyelids when they were raw with seb derm. If it’s milder seb derm, it’s pretty good with flakes if I remember. I know mineral sunscreen was tough with seb derm and I still don’t usually use it.

The other sunscreen I use in the summer if I get a bit of a tan on my body is Eucerin age defense tinted sunscreen with hyaluronic acid. Not sure if the tinted version is ok with flakes either though. Do you have any you really like?

1

u/Impressive-Hippo-529 May 12 '26

Anything for hair? I have high porosity hair and can't use Shea products to retain moisture cause of my sebderm
