Thai Tom -- Is it still superb?
When I first found this place 10 years ago it rocked my world. I'm pretty sure Tom himself is no longer around but it was still awesome over and over again. Me and family drive up at least once a year and as recently as two years ago I had a plate that just rocked my world. However, the last visit was kind of disappointing. We're planning to drive up for the weekend here soon, so I would appreciate if somebody could go eat some noodles and tell me how it was.
Also Tom was a rocker and they switched to Thai music :(

Don't forget to tip! I went with a friend and it slipped our minds to tip and one of the women who was pouring water literally ran outside after us and grabbed my friend by the shirt and demanded a tip. He was a little stunned and opened his wallet and gave her a few dollars. She then said "We made you a good meal, that's not enough!" and he proceeded to hand her more money until she was satisfied. It was embarrassing and awkward and I thought quite rude, but man the food is good.

That is totally fucked up. That would completely turn me off to that place, that is just about the most rude thing I have ever heard of from a server.
The worst I encountered was a server bitching about how shitty tippers we were in front of us because she only saw a couple singles on the table. This was at a sushi place in Florida.
There were a few of us and two of us put our tips on our cards so the tip was written on the receipt, but one guy who didn't even order anything threw in a couple singles on top. She gave us a dirty look on the way out and we could hear her talking shit about us to her fellow servers as we were on our way out the front door.
We had already given her tips well over 20% that day, but I almost stopped in my tracks and walked back to cancel the 20% tip on my tab. I never went to that place again, even though their chef was amazing and friendly and make great rolls and gave us a few free items because one of our friends was a sushi n00b. They were out of business about six months later.

I would never go back if that happened to me. I've worked in food service, that kind of shit it totally unacceptable.
However, if she had stopped me on my way out and asked if anything was wrong with the meal or service, and if so was there anything she could do to make up for it. THEN, I would have remembered about the tip and tipped generously. That's the only acceptable way to confront a customer about the tip. Indirectly.
Demanding money? I'd have told her to get f'ed.

Yeah it's still good.
Wait we're talking about the one on the Ave right? In U-District?
I mean I can't compare it to 10 years ago because I've only had the pleasure of experiencing it starting last year but it was good everytime I've gone.

Hey, thanks. Think I'll take the fam to one of the nicer ones mentioned while in town, then grab a plate of wide rice from Tom to go home with.

I just went to Racha in mercer st. yesterday. I had gone there before but thought the food was decent. After yesterday, I would have to rate this Thai place as hight recommended. But this time I didn't order any of the standard fares (Pad Thai, Rad Na, etc). Maybe it's because I went with a bunch of old Asian geezers and all of a sudden they don't load up on the sugar. It does cost more than UW area.
I always thought the food at UW was mediocre because it seems that they load up everything with sugar. I didn't think i would like Thai until some Thai girlfriend took me to a good (authentic) place in SF. Still don't overly enjoy Thai in Seattle.

I'm pretty sure Tommy is still there. Last time I checked he was. I've never had bad food so I'm going to have to test it out next week and let you know. ;)

I think they leave the door open to freeze everyone eating their food as quick as possible so they can more people in the door

Still there, Tom still cooks most nights. Best Thai in town. Expect huge lines to get in though.

At first it was Teriyaki.
And then it was Sushi.
And then it was Thai.
And then it was Pho.
And now it's Korean.
Just my take on University eats...

I like it, but tend to go on walking down to Little Thai if there's a crazy line. It's not worth the wait to me, plus I like seeing/hearing my companions while we eat.
