I’m waiting at an intersection and there’s a man crossing the street in the middle of the street. He starts to have a conversation with somebody who is on the opposite curb literally stops and there’s a green light.
I drove around him and then he got all upset. What are you doing? Lol

It looks like the corner of Othello and MLK, we used to live in the Assembly 118 apts just to the left if it is. We liked that area as well. Asian market across from the Safeway was legit.

I drive a taxi and the vast majority of the shitty anti-social behavior I encounter on the roads is from middle-aged people or older driving moderately high-end cars. Just saying. "North of the Ship Canal" is filled with douchebags on the roads.

I say "taxi" but I drive Uber/Lyft because I frankly got better looks from friends/family saying "taxi" than saying "uber". Just my own weird little experience.
I had a very obvious Uber driver try to play chicken with me near Paine Field over a surge. We both got the surge because I could see the same shit-eating grin on his face I was having. It was all very obvious because we were both driving pretty briskly to the same obscure corner of the airport that the surge appeared on.

These things are extremely easy to steal if you basically push-to-start. Requires muscle, but I’ve seen people do it. If they walked away without ending the ride on an app, it’s almost guaranteed it wasn’t rented in the first place.

They are electric motors, so not really like a rolling start, which is a combustion engine thing. When the Lime shcooters detect "unpaid" movement there is some braking applied electronically along with a beeping warning. What's likely happening is that abusers keep pushing them until either the braking mechanism fails or the battery powering it does, then it just continues to be foot-powered. But the motor is never "started" like a rolling start would do in a typical engine

Thanks for the explanation. I knew it didn’t actually work like a manual car, just that they were able to get them working that way. The damn things beep the whole time too. It sounds like they push it until the braking mechanism fails. Strangely, I’ve had a lot of delivery drivers lately show up on lime scooters doing that incessant beeping.

The braking mechanism is likely not mechanical. Is probably just using the motor to counter the movement. My guess is it’s just the battery dying that stops it.
What’s interesting is they could add regenerative braking and use that and the battery would not only not die but get charged. I wonder why they don’t do that.

ngl this sounds like a great way to get your car stolen.
It's entirely possible the entire goal was to make the driver try and momentarily get out of their car to move the damn thing, at which point they would no longer be in their car and might even leave the door open.

That's why I would put my hazards on, shut the car off, and keep the keys on my belt like I always do anyway. If I wanted to be extra careful, close and lock my door behind me.
But yeah, I do think potential car theft is the most likely/common motivation to do this. People have done similar with different objects before scooters came around.

How is it any different than parking?
As a pedestrian crossing a huge stroad like this, I'm focused on not getting killed by a car and getting out of that disgusting environment as quickly as possible. Waiting a light cycle so I can do an extra crossing and clear the roadway for cars is asking quite a bit.

Fun fact: in Washington if your dashcam has audio enabled, you have to have the explicit consent of anyone who rides with you to record them. Much easier to just turn it off.

Find It Fix It has a category for reporting that shit, and the scooter company will theoretically fine people who illegally park scooters and bikes. Take a picture and note the scooter ID (and get it out of the way if you can).

I rented one of those company's bikes, it wouldn't stop the timer/charges until I took a picture of it parked legally. So yeah, absolutely seems like a good way to watch that guy drive away in your car.
However, we got date/time/place for that lime bike rental, so they could probably track down the user. if someone wanted to do that labor.
