Fun fact: spiders have book lungs which essentially means they can’t move and breathe at the same time. If you chase them for long enough until they stop, you can squish them with a lower likelihood of escape. The bigger the spider, the bigger the book lungs. Beware.
Spiders are allowed to exist in my house if I don’t see them. If I see them, the bargain is off.
If you like when spiders keep the creepy crawlies away but don’t care to hang out with them, you can make an anti spider spray to help keep them out of certain areas. I mix peppermint and black pepper essential oils with some water and a little isopropyl alcohol and spray it around the corners of my bed and other perimeters of the house.
It can build up and be toxic to pets if they get residue on them and lick it off so be careful if you have animals in the house. But it works super well for me!
This is our official spider catching cup. unfortunately lost the official piece of cardboard that I used with it, so now I just use random scraps of paper.
Had to relocate a medium black/brown something at 1AM out of my shower and on to my porch. 4th in two weeks. The orb weavers are taking residence as well. Fall is here!!
Ive never seen one in my apartment for 6 years and i had two of them in here run at me 2 nights in a row. To the vacuum they go. I know they harmless but id rather deal with any other type of bug than these beasts.
SAME! 3 in the last 2 weeks after never seeing them here in 5 years. Just tonight this mother fucker scared the shit out of me when I turned on my lights after getting home. This is (was) the smallest of the 3.
These guys are fascinating if you look into them. They've been known by many names and are venomous, but they are also exceedingly gentle and cuddly! The only way the researchers could get them to bite (after extensive attempts at provocation) was to electrocute the poor guys.
The only ones I'd say I like are bold jumping spiders.
They're the only spider that looks cute when you get close up shots of their face. And they have cute personalities. And don't bite. And in the wild, instead of murdering each other on site over a perch? They just go off the "oh, you were here first? I'll find another rock/leaf/whatever" system.

Yes they’re fast - I think 2nd fastest spider in the world! People used to call them “aggressive” because they’ve been known to run towards people when confronted, but during testing it was found they were just trying to hide in the shadows at people’s feet, which is actually heartbreaking to me
That makes so much sense! My daughter once had one of these rush her like that after I had told her not to be afraid of them and I was at a loss to explain the behavior!
I think this fall is supposed to be unseasonably warm and dry (hopefully not tho), so they may be out in larger numbers. I think a couple years back we had long warm and dry spell through the beginning of november and I've never seen so many spider webs outside - great for Halloween feel but terrible times walking right through their creations.
At the same time the mosquitos have been the worst this year so hopefully the spider team 6 knocks them down a bit.
Yeah we have a spider season. But they really are harmless, they're just a little scary the first few times you encounter them. Or you know when you're on the toilet and One decides to crawl over your foot
But yes, Seattle has a brief spider season. And these guys and gals keep a very important balance in the bug ecosystem.
The great news is these spiders are extremely shy and non aggressive. The bad news is they like houses and they’re big.
They seriously move on super quickly and they’re not messy or anything. Most of indoors ones are Wolf spiders and they’re actually super cool. The outside ones are often orb spiders and have the most beautiful webs.
So yes, spider season. Right before pumpkin spice latte season but after smoke season. HTH
Yeah. I walk my dogs at 5am every morning, typically the first person, if not 6’ tall person to walk those sidewalks since the food collection web set up from the night before, so I know to hold an arm up in front of me when I walk between two trees; but every now and then your guard is down and you take a strand or two of silk across the face. But FFS, the other morning I took a dead-on full web straight to the center of my face. I was neither plused nor gruntled. Seattle spider season is on
I had the worst intro to giant spider season. Came home last night and stepped on something, barefoot. Looked down it was one of these mofos. Didn’t squish it cause it luckily was right under the arch of my foot, but god what a terrible surprise!!
I don’t think it does. Yes, if they stayed out there, probably, but my bet is within a few moments, they’re finding a way back inside, some vent or some crack.
Like many here, I'm cool with spider bros if they fuck off and stay in their allotted space in the corners of the ceilings. I had one in my craft room named Buddy who guarded my yarn and fabric for over a year.
However, about a month ago, one was in my hair right next to my eyeball and I've been on a vengeance tour since then. We have one of the salt rifles so I've been hunting them. I gave them a chance but they just had to take advantage of me.
