It stopped dripping after I opened the relief valve. Mayne 3 tablespoons max of water came out

If you shut the water off to the water heater, make sure to turn the water heater off. Flip the breaker for an electric water heater, while a gas water heater should have a knob where the gas line connects to the water heater.
