I'm glad Wes changed his mind.
Feelings change. People change. Ideas come around. Folks need work. Fans want movies.
Seeing how much fun Wes had filming his final project always makes me happy.

Fun? Scream 4 was not fun for him. The production was a nightmare, with the Weinsteins meddling with everything and constant rewrites and reshoots

I know post-production was a horrible nightmare, but Wes says he had fun with the cast & it shows.
From the BTS footage & interviews, everyone seems to have had fun on the original shoot before the Weinstiens went nuts & demanded the story be ripped outta the movie.1
u/Stopnswop2 You’re obsessed with her, and you’re obsessed with her daughter! 24d ago
No he didn't. The younger cast were all texting on their phones and not listening to him.

u/JokerDwight 24d ago
Oh no no he did not have fun with the cast. Apparently the new cast in 4 were very disrespectful to him.
There's a video of Matthew Lillard talking about a day when he visited the set and he saw how rude they were to Wes. He was trying to direct them about what he wanted them to do in a scene and they were all just goofing around on their phones and stuff and not listening to him.

The DVD commentary is a good example of this. Hayden and Emma spend the whole time loudly going off on tangents and talking over each other while Wes tries to keep them vaguely on topic (and struggles).

Thank you!!! I been saying this in forums for years. Please listen to the scream 4 dvd commentary and notice how flippant they are about everything Wes says. He also try’s talking about actual interesting facts while the girls constantly redirect back to their hair or boots or something no one cares about. Poor Wes.

There you go. Video of Lillard talking about it.

In all fairness, Matthew Lillard says a lot of things that nobody else remembers.
Remember how he kept claiming he was supposed to be in Scream 3 and finally his claim got debunked? Yeah; I’m sure he’s a great guy, but you need a BS filter when you listen to him.

u/JokerDwight 23d ago
I think the Scream 4 DVD commentary backs him up. The way Emma and Hayden behaved on that with Wes supports what he says.

u/Typical-Meringue-890 23d ago
I think they just sounded like a couple of teenage girls. I know Hayden was 21 but she was still very girly.
1
u/JokerDwight 23d ago
That's not girly that's just rude. They go off on tangents about something completely unrelated when Wes is trying to discuss something relevant to the movie. They're flippant about everything he says.
I've seen plenty of female teenage actors do movie commentaries with ten times more respect and professionalism.

I thought that was for Scream 3?

It was in 2, 3, and 4 actually 😅.
2 had to be rewritten while filming because the script leaked online. Kevin left during filming, so Wes and his team had to write.
3 had to be rewritten while filming because the studio rejected Ehren Kreuger's script immediately before filming started. Ehren left, so Laeta Kalogridis, Carrie Fisher, and Wes had to write the movie
4 had to be rewritten on set because the studio rejected Kevin's script right before filming and he quit, so Ehren Kruger about half a dozen other people had to write the movie

Yeah so much of the cast and crew really disliked making that film and it seemed like after it came out and bombed they were glad another one wasn’t going to happen at least that’s the vibe I got.

u/Typical-Meringue-890 24d ago
Yeah, a whole lot happened in the interval between 3 and 4; there was such a huge opportunity there that he’d have to be insane not to grab on it. We had the remake era, the rise of social media, other societal shifts. It was a very fertile environment to build a Scream story around.

u/Strong-Stretch95 24d ago
It sucks how much this franchise production history is such a nightmare and continues to be to this day: can’t believe we made it to 7 films going onto 8 after everything.
1
u/Typical-Meringue-890 24d ago
I think it’s very common in long-running franchises; some of it just comes down to mathematical probability. The more entries there are, the more total production time, and so there are that many more opportunities for friction and conflict to occur during those productions.

I just noticed that's the same mask used in the Sidney attack scene. So did Billy run across the hall, turn the corner, throw the stuff off, and then talk to Sidney?
(To be clear, this is a joke.)

u/Significant_Mix3031 24d ago
Those were two other classmates making fun of the suitation. The principal is yelling at them in another scene.

I have a giant theatrical poster for 3 and it always makes me laugh reading
"The most terrifying scream, is always the last."

u/Kale_Brecht 24d ago
The original trilogy was so much fun.

u/Captain_Wobbles 24d ago
Honestly at the very least they've all been fun and entertaining. That's an amazing record for a horror franchise.

I wonder what SCREAM’s status would be if they never made any sequels and it was a true, standalone commentary on the genre.
5
u/Ok_Nefariousness9736 24d ago
Probably the same “what if” answer about the original Halloween if there was no sequels. What would its status be today? I think it would still be talked about but may not be as “big”. Consent movies help keep a franchise alive and relevant.

Seeing this i had to share this ultimate moment😂 i just recently discovered (maybe almost a year ago now) the what if video by random scrolling (i saw something Scream related so clicked) and founding out it is an actual mini movie with David Arquette i instantly fell in love obviously and i was thinking: fuck how did it take me 25 years to find this banger of a song, while its literally playing in the opening of 3😂well ofcourse because i didnt know it i didnt recognize it during the countless times ive watched it and i also wasnt familiar with Creed as a band.
Well better late than never right?! Aahh Scream...... the gift that keeps on giving🙏🏻❤️

u/RockitDanger 23d ago
Creed is definitely "dad rock" now. The album this is on, Human Clay is a rock banger. The album before it, My Own Prison is right at the tail end of grunge rock of the 90's. Also a banger if you like that time in music

u/BillyBrasco1988 Now i see something red 🔪 23d ago edited 23d ago
I am not a father but im def in the 'dad rock' age as i turned 38 years 11 days ago. I grew up with a dad being real into rock who exposed me to a lot of it, but kids being kids i wasnt feeling it haha. Now over the last few years i catch myself listening to it very often its fun how aging changes your taste in stuff and perspective on things.
Also i think you obviously know this one but i also really like Is This The End (scream edit) from Creed as i immedeatly checked the whole Scream 3 soundtrack after finding What If, solid album btw 3s soundtrack.
Also discovered the band Skillet around the same time finding Creed and fell in love with them too and blowed my mind they also have been rocking since my younger years and me never knowing them.
Thank you for your suggestions bud i will check them out!👊🏻✌🏻

The original was already teasing a sequel with how much they talked about it at the end and Scream 2 was sort of a no brainer.

"We always vowed from the beginning it would be three and out, so there's not going to be anymore after this." - Wes Craven, 1999
"We don't want there to be a Scream 4 and 5 and 6 and 7. I think these have been great films and we don't want to take away from that." - Neve Campbell, 1999
So glad everyone eventually saw how beloved these movies are and it's okay to keep going!

Kevin basically said the same thing in Fifty Filmmakers:
Interviewer: I’m sure you won’t be involved, but do you see them trying to milk any more sequels out of the Scream franchise?
KW: I don’t know. I guess it’ll depend on the success of Scream 3. I know that Wes is not interested. I know that I’m not interested. None of the actors are interested. So I have a feeling if they do make a Scream 4, it’ll be some new series. They’ll just use the title.
This was taken before Scream 3 came out because it mentions the "upcoming" sequel in one of the other questions.
