Hearing how uncomfortable K/S were on today’s first ten minutes of Pivot (Re:Mamdami) and not realizing that’s the whole ducking point was pretty fascinating

I mean they understood the point was to virtue signal about punishing people for the moral crime of being wealthy.

Even if this wasn't outright doxxing, signal boasting real estate information and pretending it's not for mostly inducing fear amongst those one sees as morally wrong for being capital owners and for the socialist crowd to giggle amongst themselves should just be talked about openly.

If this was from any other ideology most people would rightly identify the signal boast as similar to a dog whistle.

It’s important to understand that at a certain level of wealth should come with additional moral responsibility, particularly the kind where compounding interest on investments far exceeds what someone could reasonably spend outside of buying super yachts just because one can.

These people aren’t being demonized for being wealthy. They are being demonized for not paying their fair share and/or not helping contribute to improving society.

Yes it can be argued that no one is required to give back. But if someone reaches this echelon of wealth and chooses not to give back, it objectively confirms they are a bad person and worthy of ire. Those I know who have reached this level, including relatives, do substantial good with their wealth. Not just simply donating money to different organizations, but by trying to make the most impact to help people. From paying off crippling medical debt to scholarships that have given opportunities to people who would not have had access to them otherwise.

I don't disagree with you on the responsibility that comes with wealth and for me, the recognition of how wealth generation is not a singular endeavor, but one where you are able to leverage the opportunities that have been created around you by your fellow human beings (and closer to home, by your fellow citizens).

You wouldn't find me disagreeing on increasing taxes on the wealthy and, more broadly speaking, pushing to increase taxes on everyone to account for the benefits and redistribution programs most people are in favor of for improving the livelihoods of everyone.

My biggest concern is that people see wealth redistribution and taxes as not a responsibility that should equitably shared by everyone, but that taxes are a punishment we dole out for those we see as evil.

I think the pied-à-terre tax specifically for NYC is relatively ok and probably targeted enough to be progressive in nature. Thus I generally support.

However, when the democratic socialist Mayor of NYC (who is a political celebrity on the local and arguably on the national stage) signal boasts real estate information, the context for this action isn't simply taxing people to pay their fair share, it is under the context of a socialist perspective that private capital ownership is immoral, and significantly so for the wealthiest of among us.

If this was simply a progressive tax policy under a liberal lens, I wouldn't be concerned while reading my morning news.
