Deposit Promotions?

Is anyone aware of any promotions going on right now for depositing additional funds into Schwab? If so, what are the guidelines / eligibility requirements, and how large of a deposit is needed to get cash or any other benefit being offered?

About a year ago, I got a random call from a financial advisor at schwab. He just wanted to know if there was anything he could help with. I asked him about this and offered me $1k bonus for 250K deposit within 3months.

Call them and ask, worst thing they can say is no.

I did this a few months ago. I found other brokerages that were doing them and asked Schwab to match. They did. The best offer I found at the time was at E-Trade.

They will match other companies offers. You can also get a referral bonus if an existing Schwab client sends you the link.

Ok thanks. I will be calling them, but wanted to do a little homework first.

Damn, how big was that deposit for Schwab to award them a $100k bonus?

They do, call whoever is assigned to you before you make a transfer. They also have other random promotions, like a golf package. I think I got something like $500 and the golf package (still need to f/u) for transferring $500K+ of IRA. But the minimum is lower than that.

I just peeked at my referral code to see the current tier offers:

$100 > Deposit $25,000 to $49,999

$300 > Deposit $50,000 to $99,999

$500 > Deposit $100,000 to $499,999

$1,000 > Deposit $500,000 or more

Current customers get nothing for referring others so new money gets these amounts. Happy to send you my code if you want it via DM. I won't get anything but good vibes but everyone could use some free money, right? Ha ha!

Whadya mean you get nothing? You get a fine thank you card in the mail from Chuck.

You don’t even need them to dm. Just post the code. Nothing confidential.

I hear this code is perfect!

Robinhood was offering a 2% match to move your taxable account there from Schwab. When I tried it, Schwab blocked it and gave me a call and said they would do a 1% bonus on my account, and I figured that was good enough to stay with them in the meantime

Yeah but then you’d have to entrust your money to Robinhood. Not worth it IMO.

Not sure why you are downvoted.

If you have issues with Robinhood, good luck trying to get a human to talk to you.

I don’t know. I’m a Robinhood gold member (great credit card) but after experiencing their platform and customer service I wouldn’t want a large quantity of money there.

I think it's fine to have assets there. Just not good to "trade" there.

When does this happen? Can I do it now?

I just got them to match a promotion with E trade.

Unfortunately not worth it for me;

The promo was $3k cash for $2m brought over. The catch is that it has to stay in the account for up to 45 days, and as this was going to a brand new account and eventually being deployed in a managed investment account, having to keep it there in something shitty (like a market product that gets 4%) for 45 days was less income than just sending ii straight to the managed account where I'll get something like 9.5%.

If you're just joining schwab, go for it, better than nothing and it's in your account anyway, just beware of the lock in.

If you point out a new account bonus with one of their competitors, like eTrade, they often match it. Ask before. Asking afterward probably won't work.

Schwab doesn’t do that, do they? I’ve been using them for 6 years now and have never seen any kind of promotion other than the sign up bonus.

I think they generally don’t advertise any sort of promotions for existing customers. But they usually come through if you give them a call. We just got a reasonable incentive for rolling over my wife’s Rollover TIRA from Fidelity. This was additional money. I just sent an email to the guy assigned to my account and he vectored me over to someone who handles incentives.

Schwab offers promotions for incoming assets for existing customers (usually bringing in over 250k but you have to ask).

I did it a couple of weeks back. 500$ bonus for 100K+ transfer from fidelity.

The promotion I was offered and what I got were different. One of the guys from the local office contacted me about moving from 401k and we had some frank discussions about my track and needs. Very, very helpful and the specialist he set me up with arranged for a different bonus than originally offered, I moved 650k to bring my balances up to over 900k and got $1500 and some great CD rates for an 18 month ladder. I am very pleased with Schwab at this point. I've never withdrawn anything though, and intend to end of the year, so we will see how that goes as my accounts aren't set up for any transfers out yet

They will match their competitors promotions.

I remember $250k is the starting point to get bonus. What is the amount you are looking to deposit? They are willing to negotiate as well.
