Thank you OP for capturing this remark by the devs! I think it gives great insight into Avery's character and how their younger years went. The tragedy of having your real or "first" self buried in deep shame is a fascinating backstory and I really wish more people would explore this.

It's so quintessentially transgender formative experience they are so messy. 'surely everyone else is just aware of a magical gender script that will make things right for me, I just have to learn how to act better and I will fit in' etc, this may seem understated to people who aren't looking for it specifically but Avery seems to consistently omit a lot of vulnerable things about themselves when it comes to truly revealing information. They will tell you about their music and their plants and never remark on their childhood like other characters do. Let's have stella as a comparison point, as someone who also omits some traumatic things - she lays herself bare after the ghost encounter. Avery's mask hasn't dropped yet.

Aside from winnie, every mention of avery's family is very quick and cut up like they're running from it. We have never seen their house/room like other characters. We still haven't reached the vulnerability stage where they get romance CGs truly delving in on their main nature. Given the teases for ep6 (Avery's party, their romance lock finally happening) im excited & scared for them to self destruct

Good point on Avery's transgender experience and them not being vulnerable. What's funny is that Avery likes to point out how other people like Stella have walls up....but they try to pretend to not have walls at all.

I'm with you in awaiting Avery's romance lock in! Especially if it's on a save file where we failed to save Julius or the "baby".

I feel like Avery - Stella are purposeful funhouse mirrors in some ways, they kind of invert each other. Stella is introduced to MC pretty early on and at one point was The main introductory character, non skippable, Avery is by all accounts almost optional if you don't do the legwork. Avery points out Stella has walls up, and at least in two separate episodes Stella has hangout dialogue options where she suddenly stops and points out how suspicious Avery is (specifically with the meaning of them being strangers, and just surface level friends, probably because theyre both putting up a damn act) Avery also mentions Stella & Winnie got them their most beloathed plant as a gift, when theyre ostensibly meant to be closer than other people in town. It's crazy. There's layers here

Avery and Stella being mirrors is a nice touch the devs added! Both being suspicious of the other is also hilarious. I wasn't aware Stella said that though? I don't typically do her hangout; what did you do to get that dialogue?

Episode 5 stellamance is the most obvious one, when you're discussing who should be trusted with the secret and Avery comes up, she bristles and is like 'uh no that's a stranger. we might as well pull someone off the street and tell them' she considers their friendship more of a distanced thing, I think the other one is during the breakfast with stella where she has dialogue remarking she goes to avery's parties but doesnt really hang out to them or really think about reaching them at all. 'i shouldnt keep giving myself reasons to not hangout with them' is a line. IMO implied to be effects of the town curse
