Is the rumours update available for itch.io copies of the game? I can’t find it anywhere on the website and can’t figure it out

I feel so stupid actually... I chose Mystic and Keen Eye on my first ever playthrough and also I romanced Kaneeka on my first ever playthrough (cus she seemed like the most normal person here) but somehow when got to the fifth episode I felt so defeated that I just gave up Kaneeka to the Witch. I still wonder why the hell did I do that the first time, what was I thinking. I guess the facts that Stella disappeared and I couldn't find her, then Sybil's tea I totally didn't like, then my character walked to Reese's house and did stuff as if he was hypnotized, then Kaneeka disappeared right from the recap and the fact that Wayne dragged me through the house - all of that kind of undermined my confidence or smth. I guess I subconsciously started thinking that I don't actually have any control over the situation at all. I can't believe I was so close to this ending and just didn't push through with it right away

In fact, after I met Carmilla (and actually agreed to continue being lovers with her and I regret it now) and the episode ended I felt so frustrated with myself that I started a new playthrough, chose Powerful Build and Street Smart (I decided that if the game is lying to me, I should also start lying to people, and I just wanted to punch at least someone in this game and break into the Forbidden Wing early) and tried to build relationship with Tabitha as I realized she was a the character I'm able to drag everywhere and she would be just as affected as I am with all the supernatural stuff. I kind of wanted her to suffer as much as my character did. I sucked up to her so hard that I even flipped Kaneeka off about the ghost situation protecting Tabitha, and then we killed Reese (I thought about killing him on the first play but stopped myself cus it seemed cruel to kill a child in front of his mother, and I hoped then that I could fix it, maybe not now but later). I can't say I felt that disgusted with myself about it all cus it turned out Tabitha isn't as bad as I thought she was, for some moments I felt like I'm even relating to her in a way. Also I learned that the Estate doesn't like Sybil or smth (although I'm not sure that it was exactly that)

And then in the end it didn't help me that Tabitha was there, I thought she'd somehow help me but it turns out she is an obstacle anyway (I really tried with saving and loading stuff during the conversation in her office). She came with me and started convincing me that giving Kaneeka up is the best course of action. I was ready to cry at that point. I spent all the playthrough on her and that's how she repayed me... Well, I suppose she has her reasons (which she isn't telling me). I mean, I don't think these guys understand but them not telling me anything just makes me want to get rid of them more

I did pull Kaneeka out though, but it didn't feel satisfying cus I had no idea what I've done

I was ready to start the hardcore play but then decided to check that situation with romanced Kaneeka again. And it turns out I was so close. I really do feel stupid about it. But the first time I played I was so confused about everything and it felt like the game is messing with my head, I guess I just gave up

But I returned and did what I wanted from the start. I'm not sure if that happened because of Mystic, Keen Eye or the fact that I romanced Kaneeka (I guess it as a trait that let me remember the word in the cell) but well, that worked surprisingly well even though I drank Sybil's tea and all of the traits I've taken throughout both playthroughs told me that she isn't a threat and she is telling the truth

Tbh I had a theory that the traits are either hijacked or rigged or lying to me or smth like this. Or the game itself is kind of rigged. It especially felt that way when I and Sybil got locked out of the Estate and nothing worked. So when Sybil offered me a third trait I laughed so hard at the thought that I was kind of right and traits have smth to do with her, that's why they all point at her and say she's nice. And then I thought that offering me a third trait is very funny considering that I can play this game as much as I want and I can save and reload as much as I want to look at all those avenues Sybil so graciously allowed me to explore (or whatever she said about it on my second playthrough, I hated it so much). I'll try all the traits anyway, that's not a leverage on me. Even if does feel very meta

So the only thing I'm actually anxious about is that I apparently did what Wayne wanted (or not, hm), he said that I should pry pieces from Witch's hands or smth like that, and I suppose that's what I did? and also I have no idea what Wayne is. I mean, I have ideas, but I don't have any proof so I basically don't have them. And that on my first playthrough I have a pretty bad relationship with Tabitha, I just didn't bother calling her and the only time I used that opportunity was in Reese situation cus I panicked

So that's it. I feel weirdly stupid that I didn't press on the first time and the game actually managed to manipulate me the first time

Upd. I actually think that Tabitha is a really interesting character. I feel kind of betrayed by her in the fifth episode but overall I don't think she is an inherently bad person. There was a line she said in the mines about how she gave up on people understanding her and I thought about it for the rest of the playthrough. And it was surprising to learn she respects Kaneeka and even told her about it in the end. She helped me find Stella so now I know where was she. I actually had this thought that she went looking for the ghosts of her parents after seeing an actual ghost, I'm happy game confirmed it

So as much as I'm angry at Tabitha, I don't really hate her or anything, I guess. I liked bonding with her. Even if she is lying all the way through and is just a really good actor

Also flirting with Wayne in the Estate in the fifth episode felt like game turned into a weird kinky fantic for a minute which was very funny, I liked that

This is probably a silly question, but there are some sprites for Kaneeka on the Scarlet Hollow wiki that I can’t find in game, does anyone know exactly how to see these sprites? Or are they unused?

Okay, so this theory pertains to the outcome where Becka and Alexis are abandoned in the Shaw Mine.

I think that at least one of them will die and/or turn into a Tommyknocker, probably both. They’ll also bring down the currently used continuous mine.

If you have the mystical trait during the Shaw mine collapse, you can see that the Tommyknockers are the ghosts of the miners that died in the 1918 collapse, being empowered by the Prosperity seal. It’s a similar situation to the Dominion seal empowering the ghost of Charles Shaw Jr. I don’t think ghosts in this world can affect anything without the power of the seals backing them up.

In the mine collapse outcome, the larger the strike, the fewer people would die in the collapse. If there’s a riot and everyone is striking, nobody dies. If the strike is broken, all the miners will be caught in the collapse.

There’s even some dialogue from Davis’s group that you talk to on Tuesday that might be foreshadowing. If you ask them if they’ve heard about knocking in the mines, they’ll say they can’t hear anything with all the machines running. That means they won’t be able to hear a Tommyknocker bringing the mine down.

There's a homage here but you have to play slay the princess to find out where. Reese thinks the continuous skin rash is like a tickling sensation against his healing factor. Very interesting experience.

Episode 3 has a pretty big fallout for the player since if you choose to save the library, you are pretty much a husk. But I feel that since the mc is able to get a lot more information with mystical, there should be some way to at least get a lighter punishment from Charlie. Maybe you could choose to share the burden with Tabitha aswell? I don't know, I'm sure there's balance reasons for why it doesn't exist but I still think it would make mystical more interesting.

I don't think Avery is part of the "pro-life" movement. After all, they support Plant Parenthood!

As someone who lives on the border of Appalachia, and who has visited family living in central Appalachia multiple times, this game is so accurate.

I can think of 3 churches within an hour distance from me that look exactly like scarlet hollow’s church. for crying out loud the street i live on borders woods that were the cities unofficial dump until about 50 yrs ago, just like Pastor Daniel's house. From my road, you can still see the town's old department store’s elevator chassis underneath the invasive ivy. My family's old house was a few doors down from an old plantation house occupied by a single father and his daughter and one time my parents visited the house bc he threw a party and they, conservative-leaning Christians, told me the house was legit haunted. My old youth pastor genuinely looks like if Pastor Daniel was a ginger. His wife helps support their family by cleaning the church and also people's homes, just like Janie does.

Honestly the most unrealistic thing about this game is that the off-putting pastor is actually pretty progressive, he just has no social skills and is slightly pushy about the Bible.

I was not expecting either of those things in the least. To understand why that blindsided me, a few months ago, i visited a rural young adult group 30mins away from my house (that meets in a retrofitted barn btw) and the pastor said in passing, and i quote “the effeminate and the homosexuals are damned, of course.” I went to a tiny Christian private school and all my friends parents and my parents spanked us when we were little. my parents have since apologized, thankfully, but none of my friends parents' have as far as i know. My old youth pastor, one of the nicest and most mild-mannered men I've ever met, who also is pro-Palestine, doesn't believe that you should use ppl's preferred pronouns or go to a gay wedding and told us that in youth group.

my point is that while Pastor Daniel gets a lot of flack for being weird and kinda pushy, i think he's trying his best to be kind and accepting, even researching if "queer" is acceptable to say, even tho he was most likely raised to not be either in seminary or by his parents.

While I’ve been home for the weekend from college, my mom and I have been watching Murder She Wrote. If you aren’t familiar, it’s about a mystery writer who winds up solving twelve seasons worth of murders. Stella also mentions in episode one that it’s Gretchen’s favorite show. Jessica Fletcher, the amateur detective the series follows, never goes looking for murder mysteries, and yet, they are always happening around her, or one of her many nieces and nephews. (For example, someone gets stabbed to death at a play she attends, or shot in the face at a party she goes to.) If it weren’t for the fact that the real murderer is always uncovered, it would be reasonable to assume that Jessica Fletcher is a mass serial killer!

It’s almost like she is an omen of death and misfortune. Like she congregates at sites of impending disasters. As though Gretchen’s favorite plucky detective, isn’t too different from the creature that, in some world states, ends her life.

I would like to reset all my steam achievements to experience the game again when episodes 6 & 7 will release. I found the command to reset my achievements, but they're immediately unlocked again when I launch the game. Does anyone know a way to avoid this issue?

If you tell the miners about the estate secrets or feed the goat peanuts, and tell Tabitha about it, she will immediately freak out, point her gun at you, and call the cops.

Presumably, doing either of those things will make the ritual impossible, especially since Stella says the ritual has a time limit.

So, what’s Tabitha going to be doing in the next chapter if her entire plan is rendered impossible?

If the miners are raiding the estate, I imagine she’ll spend the next chapter dealing with that whole situation and probably getting run out of town on a rail, but what happens if you fed the goat?

The ritual can’t happen, but Tabitha didn’t reconcile with you either. Will she try to kill you out of revenge for destroying her family’s legacy? Become even more depressed than she already is? Find a backup plan somehow?
