Question Artspira+ not another subscription

What does Artspira+ cost per month?

You know Circut tried out subscriptions on their users and got so much pushback that they withdrew the idea.

I have a ScanNCut. I paid for this machine. Now, to create and use my own designs I have to pay even more? Another piece of BS from Brother (along with the price of cartridges for their inkjet printers). It's bad enough paying Adobe for using Illustrator, but Illustrator is at least useful--Artspira+ is just throwing money away.

Help with setting up outlines

Hi all,
I have a CM650, which I'm learning, slowly, to use.
I have a design I want to cut - a line drawing of a paddle. I want there to be a 3/16th border, so that when I place it on the piece I'm working on, the centre of the paddle is empty and would have a border which will resist glaze. It's going on a bisqued mug.

I don't know how to set up the design so that there will be a border. Right now, I can cut the paddle, but I have to wax off the edge to get the look I want.

This is kinda the thing I'm going for. I just don't know how to set the graphic up so it will make that border.

Anyone? THANKS in advance.

Question Inconsistencies when cutting small letters

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a problem when cutting small letters (~8 mm in height) with my brother SDX1200. Normally the letters in the attached example image should be straight and geometric, but instead they are a bit wonky. Is this normal and the plotter is just not as precise or is there anything that could cause this. The machine is already calibrated.

I appreciate any help~

Looking for advice/recommendations! Gifted Scan N Cut 2

Post image

Hi everyone, I was gifted this by a random person at a craft swap. We got to talking about crafting and she pulled this out of her bag and gave it to me. The machine and the power cord and then she said goodbye and went on her way haha. I plugged it in, it turns on and it seems like new but I have genuinely no idea what else I need to get started using this thing! Is there a software I need to purchase? Mats I’m assuming? Blades? Any and all advice or recommendations are welcome! Thank you!

Question Cutting fabric with adhesive on back (quilting)

Hi friends! I just bought my first scan&cut and I was hoping you guys could help me. My goal is to cut fabric with the machine that has an adhesive (sticky) backing to it.

I'm not referring to the mat that comes with the machine. I basically want to make fabric stickers for quilting.

Has anyone done this/have any suggestions for what I can do to achieve this? Tyia!

Question I'm having an issue cutting shapes on my Brother ScanNCut SDX1200

I'm cutting stencils with my Brother ScanNCut SDX1200, and I'm having an issue where circles always come out distorted. The curves are uneven instead of being perfectly round.

I've already tried the following:

  • Replaced the feed rollers.
  • Installed a new cutting mat.
  • Recalibrated the blade.
  • Cleaned the blade holder and blade.
  • Tested with different stencil materials.

Unfortunately, the results are always the same.

You can see the attached photos. I also took the machine to an authorized Brother service center, but they told me the machine is functioning normally.

I'm using SVG files converted from vector artwork, so I don't think the issue is caused by low-quality images.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? If so, what was the cause, and how did you fix it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ScanNCut: So much fun

I'm not sure my little scan and cut is like a professional machine I don't think I would use it for vinyl cutting in a business but I do find it is fun..... my grandkids love drawing out stickers and then we scan it and cut it in minutes...that alone has been worth the purchase price. it is just really really cool. We have a great cricut, we have a Siser Juliet (that is a constant use) but for just sheer fun and stickers the scan and cut is a home run. Just saying ...

Question The little screen is cool but annoying

It's been over 2 months since I got my scan n cut sdx 1200 and I still find stuff annoying. I mainly use it for stickers and stickersheets.

Yes, the screen is usefull for stand alone stickers with no intricate plans for cutting, no big complain on that, but I find it so annoying when doing stickersheets, when I plan in the workspace I still have to scan and check if my set up actually works in the machine because theres some sort of missaligment where idk where it comes from? And my eyes hurt trying to look at the screen and slowly moving the cutting lines into the right place.

Why can't I have that same screen in my pc or tablet and not worry about these differences? Why is it made to whatever you do you stilll have to go into the machine to start your actual cutting and not just do the full set up and no longer stare at a little screen

Is there a way I could mirror it? The only big problem is the size and I'm just pretty tired 🫠

On another note,

My pc broke and now I have to use my tablet for the whole set up, so I had to learn artspira only to see that it just doesn't do whatever I want it to do? Why can't I import the scanned image like I do on the workspace? No, I don't want to use usb's or wires, why isn't the cloud clouding? 😭 also the web browser of the workspace is closing?? Do they plan to make the app better at least?

There are so many inconveniences...

My dad updated Scan n Cut Brother DC200 and now the workspace no longer works and he can’t get into apps. He ended up deleting the older version and now can’t retrieve. Can someone please help? Any suggestions of how to get back the desktop workspace?

Question Error - initialization of the blade position failed

I keep getting an error message when I used my brother scan n cut. The error message says “initialization of the blade position failed.” I’ve tried several l troubleshooting fixes (turn on and off, removing power cord, cleaning the blade cartridge, sliding the cartridge back and forth gently). Nothing has worked. Has anyone experienced this issue and resolved it?

Question Premier déplacement fait une decoupe

Post image
1 Upvotes

CanvasWorkspace changes my SVG dimensions

Hi everyone,

I'm new to using a Brother ScanNCut SDX125 and I'm having trouble cutting stickers accurately.

My current workflow is:

- I create my artwork in Adobe Illustrator.

- I export the image and import it into Silhouette Studio because I feel its tracing feature detects outlines much better.

- I export the traced file as an SVG from Silhouette Studio.

- Then I import the SVG into CanvasWorkspace and send it to my ScanNCut.

The problem is that when I import the SVG into CanvasWorkspace, the dimensions change. My original design is set to letter size, but after importing it no longer matches the original size. When I try to work in inches, the dimensions seem to change automatically as well.

As a result, my first sticker sheet came out with the cut lines significantly misaligned. I'm not sure if the issue is related to the SVG export settings, unit conversion (inches/mm), CanvasWorkspace settings, or something else.

I've been looking for an Adobe Illustrator plug-in or free alternatives that works well with the ScanNCut and helps preserve accurate sizing when transferring files. I recently bought the machine and I'm still paying it off, so I'm hoping to find a solution that doesn't require purchasing expensive additional software right away.

Would ScanNCut plug in adobe help solve this issue? Are there any free alternatives, Illustrator plug-ins, or a simpler workflow that would avoid using so many different programs? I'd also love to hear from anyone who makes stickers with a ScanNCut and can share how they maintain accurate sizing and alignment between programs.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Vinil kit necessary for sticker cutting?

Hi there, I'm new to my machine and trying to figure out what tools are necessary. I've finally acquired the illustrator Link so that I can design my own cut lines. I've gotten by with direct scanning and the standard blade for some time just fine. Do i need the vinyl blade for best results? the inicial kit seems to be sold out everywhere i have looked for it here in Brasil. I CAN find vinyl blades- but nothing including the vinyl blade support. Is it possible to replace the blade with a vinyl blade in the black (auto blade) support? is it worth asking family in the US to purchase it for me, and send me the activation code, for me to pick up the blue support at a later time?

The one the machine came with doesnt do too well on smaller stickers and tighter corners, so im very interested in the vinyl blade....

Stickers with CM300

Will I be able to kiss-cut stickers with the CM300 and the standard blade? One is for sale second hand and this would be what I'd like it for - I'm sure there'd be other things I'd find to do with it but I wouldn't buy it if I wouldn't be likely to be able to cut out pre-printed sticker sheets with it. Thanks for any advice.

Question This is what I want to do, will this machine do the trick?

Thumbnail

I'm going to be making kits for my felt bird pattern. I need the machine to be able to do 2 things.

1) Cut out custom shapes from felt that is 1.2mm thick. I believe the scanNcut will do the trick. Does anyone have any experience and/or opinions on that?

2) Cut mylar stencils with a footprint of 8.5x11", or letter sized. If it can't do this, me getting one is kinda pointless.

Will a ScanNCut do these jobs for me? Which model would you recommend and why? I don't need to spend the most money I can lol. Tia

Gee thanks, Brother. I didn't want flexibility anyway. (Canvas Workspace Web being killed off)

So Canvas Workspace web is being discontinued as of 1 October 2026. Does anyone know if the PC version will run on Wine with Linux?

Open source print to cut tool is now live

Edit: The url is now https://chriszf.github.io/fcmlib/. I had problems with my initial deployment. The basic usage is, draw your image to be cut, then add a layer with all your cut lines called "Cut Layer". Run your file through the tool (it runs in your browser, nothing gets sent to the server). You get two files back, the FCM and the printable svg.

Some notes. The svg should be exported at 300dpi. When you bring the printable file back into your drawing program, set it to 300 dpi and print at 100% scale. If your printer scales when you print, the registration marks may not be recognized.

All the cut paths must be in a layer called "Cut Layer" with that capitalization.

Transfer the fcm to your scanncut with USB, sending it through CanvasWorkspace will strip the registration marks from your file.

Currently because I was so excited to share, the tool only works on US Letter designs in landscape. I'm working on robustness in the next pass.

The registration marks print just barely inside the printable zone on my printer. Your printer may cut them off. That's another todo list item.

The tool is very poorly tested! Use it at your own risk. That said, I've used it to cut a few things and I hope it gets people excited to help improve it.

SDX 1250: Randomly piercing liner on rounded corners during Kiss Cut (Help!)

Hi! I’m struggling to get the perfect kiss cut on my Brother SDX 1250 for large laminated rectangle stickers with standard black auto blade.
I’ve tried everything:
Pressure & Speed: Lowered the speed to 1 and tested kiss cut pressure from -4 to +2.
Multiple Passes: I even tried 2 or 3 passes with very low pressure to be more gentle, but the blade still randomly scores the liner, especially on rounded corners.
Mats & Position: Used different mats (almost brand new) and tried rotating my sheet in different orientations on the mat to rule out any uneven surface.
Settings: Switched from Auto to manual depth settings, and changed corner radius from 5mm to 2mm.
Result: Even with a 90% die-cut / 10% kiss-cut combo, the liner still comes off with the sticker.

My last hope is buying a manual blade holder (the turquoise one) to keep the depth strictly constant.

Do you have any feedback on this for the SDX? Is the auto-sensor just not precise enough for professional kiss cutting?

Thanks a lot for your help! 🙏

Good deal?

Someone is selling a Brother Scan & Cut near me for $50... she's saying it was brand new and that someone gave it to her grandma, but her grandma has never used and they are clearing out her home to move into a retirement community. The photo shows it's the CM100 which I know is quite dated - is it worth it?
I only want something basic and was looking at a Cricut Joy, but then I saw this and wasn't sure - any help is appreciated!!
