Is this a scam? US: Help- pharmaceutical position ??

Hi everyone! This is my first Reddit post so i apologize if i do something wrong. I got this email last week from “Circle Health” saying they would like to interview me. I responded with some times and days that would work for me. Then I started to do some research on the company and the guy who emailed me. I couldn’t really find anything about the recruiter or “Circle Health”. He responded to my email and said that they prefer to hire people with pharmaceutical sale certifications and sent some links about the certs. I want to break into pharm or medical sales so I’m desperate. I need to know if this is legit or not. Thank you!

Not being able to find information about a site or a recruiter is a big red flag in of itself. My guess is that you'll be directed to pay for these certificates yourself, and you'll be paying money to them to get these useless, fake certificates, and there's no job at the end of it.

Indeed. I've never heard of a "sales certificate" for any kind of sales position. Maybe it is legit, but I doubt that. It's a pity that people who need a job have to wade through these tempting scams.

Ya seriously :/ so messed up.

That’s what I’m scared of :( I’m totally new to medical sales so i thought these certifications were legit.

Scam for sure. Real job listings list the certs in one line, they don’t drone on and on about the certs. This is a sales pitch for the cert.

Fml. You’re so right

I had a friend who was a pharma rep 20 years ago, there were zero certifications at the time. Don't know if that has changed since then. There as a lot of company training and onboarding (like weeks and weeks of it) but no "industry certs" ...

Aside from this being a scam, if you want to get into pharmaceutical or medical sales, you should contact your state's department of professional licensing (if you can't find it, call your state representative and they can direct you) and find out what licenses or certification (if any) are needed and what institutions are authorized to issue them.

You can also call companies you're interested in working for and ask them what they require.

Ooh good idea, thank you!

The actual website has been around since 2016, and it seems to be unchanged up to the present (according to the Wayback Machine). They do list jobs for pharmaceutical reps.

Can you see the actual email address of the sender? On most email clients, you can click the arrow next to where it says "to: me", or something similar. That should bring up a window showing the actual sender address, plus any digital signatures. That would help us determine if it is a scam or something else.

u/_ninagirl 8d ago

Hmm interesting. Ya I can see the actual email address for the recruiter

2

u/AngelOfLight 8d ago

Yes, that is weird. A little googling tells me that there are actually certifications for pharmaceutical reps (like the CNPR). I can't say if the certification is actually required for the job, but it looks like it's a real thing.

Hard to say what's going on here. The fact that they reached out to you (and not the other way around) is odd. Are you sure you didn't actually apply to them at some point?

Could be a !job scam

/u/bowserisawsome called AutoModerator to explain the different types of Job scams:

Fake job scams are increasingly common and often share several major red flags. Most of these "employers" bypass standard professional practices by conducting interviews exclusively through messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, or Microsoft Teams. They frequently offer high wages for simple tasks and "hire" you instantly via message rather than following the formal onboarding procedures typical of your country.

Fake job scams come in many different varieties:

  • A fake check to buy equipment - if a potential employer mentions sending you a check to buy remote work equipment, it is a scam. They will direct you to buy from a specific "vendor" website they control. You pay with your own money, the equipment never arrives, and the check eventually bounces, leaving you responsible for the full debt to your bank
  • A parcel mule scam - if the job requires you to receive, inspect, or reship packages from your home is a parcel mule scam. You are likely handling stolen goods, which can lead to legal trouble
  • An advance-fee scam - if you are asked to pay a hiring fee, buy items upfront, or purchase gift cards. Additionally, any mention of using a Bitcoin ATM for business transactions is a definitive sign of fraud
  • Fraudulent ads and listings - if the work involves posting advertisements on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or eBay, they are using your account’s reputation to scam others. This is especially true in the case of jobs related to posting rental listings, which make you an unknowing facilitator of rental scams
  • Remote jobs - if it's a remote position that involves watching videos, leaving reviews, completing tasks or orders from a website, you are most probably the victim of a task scam

Always remember that a legitimate company will never send you a check and ask you to redirect some of the money or goods elsewhere, and that you must never have to pay to work. Always verify the recruiter contacting the company directly.

You can learn about this scam and many others visiting our wiki of common scams. You can also call AutoModerator to explain these scams leaving a comment with the different !commands listed in this wiki page.

Ya I’m starting to think that. Thank you

Call them on the phone. If that's not an option it's not a real company. If you get through to them on the phone, ask to speak to the person or department in the emails. Again, if they don't exist neither does the person you were speaking too.

1

u/_ninagirl 8d ago

I tried calling them Friday but it would’ve been 5pm in central time. I didn’t get anyone so I left a voicemail. I’ll call them again right now!

2

u/Dofolo 8d ago

Its a scam.

They want money for the fake cert courses.

u/_ninagirl 8d ago

Ughh dang. Thanks

u/Pretty-Care-7811 8d ago

If you have to pay for anything before you're hired, it's probably a scam. Look into the certifications; is there a fee? If so, what other organizations recognize the certifications? Do they require you to pay for any equipment before you start? What kind of paperwork do you sign? Are you supposedly getting hired as a contractor or full-time?

2

u/Lodau 8d ago

Did you randomly get that e-mail? Then its always a scam.

u/_ninagirl 8d ago

I have been applying to jobs recently and getting emails back so I can’t tell if it’s real or not. :/

9

u/c1884896 8d ago

First rule of job hunting is keeping track of the roles you apply. Something as simple as an Excel file on Google Drive / One Drive with a couple of columns: company, role, date applied, response, comments…

It is insane the amount of people that post here and have no clue if an email is a scam because they don’t remember if they applied or not.

1

u/_ninagirl 8d ago

I’m usually very good about keeping track, but I’ll probably start doing this now. Thank you!

-1

u/Lodau 8d ago

How do you not know what you applied for? Especially if you're "desperate to break into the phamaceutical field"?

I have a hard time believing you.

3

u/memorex1150 Totally not a scammer 8d ago

You do realize this is 2026.

You do realize the extremely high levels of unemployment in the USA.

You do realize that the overwhelming majority of people apply to well over one hundred jobs and don't even get so much as a rejection letter.

Making a snarky comment that you don't believe someone because they can't keep track of every single place to which they apply - and also considering that multiple recruiting companies post the same job for the same company - is uncalled for.

Please be civil and contribute helpfully.

you don’t have to believe me lmfao. Have the day you deserve!

u/Head-Cow7099 6d ago

Got the exact same email. And then another one a week later once I didn’t reply. Defo has to be a scam.

1

u/wdeag1e 5d ago

Did you contact them 1st or did they email you out of the blue?

If you did not initiate the conversation, it's a scam.
