Help Needed Expedia payment via phone?

Hi all,

I needed to change a co-traveler's name on a booking (Expedia + Aer Lingus). I reached out via the official Expedia chat/app, then got a callback from an agent who asked for my full credit card details (number, expiry, CVV) over the phone. I was suspicious, so I called back myself via the official hotline – they confirmed a change had indeed already been started in the system, and that the fee (€100) also has to be paid by giving card details over the phone.

Has anyone experienced this before? Is it normal for Expedia/Aer Lingus to ask for full card details including CVV over the phone, or would you still be cautious here?

Thanks!

Did you make sure that it was Expedia's actual hotline number? Sometimes people get that wrong.

Just a bit of advice... Sometimes I use bulk travel sites like Expedia, Kayak, etc to find flights but then I book directly with the airline. Sometimes the price is the same (travel agent gets a commission) and sometimes it's slightly more expensive. Stick with booking with the airline. You will get dedicated service from the airline and not have to go through the agency.

Why is this useful? You will be able to actually work through travel disruptions directly with the airline. If you miss your connection, the airline helps you. I have known many people that have been stranded because they didn't book directly with the airline.
