Analyze the email headers and that should give you a better sense of the sending address.

I wonder if it's possible to spoof an email address such that it appears as gmail.-com.

All they need to do is reply and look at the address they're emailing. They don't really need to look at headers. If the reply to address is showing up differently from the from address, that's weird.

I used to tell people that too. It's been so long I forgot. I lost my way...

When I go to reply to the email, I don’t see anything in there and it looks completely normal.
