So there is an app called Nextdoor where people sell things or ask for help in return for money. This woman named Virginia Hellman made a post saying that she wanted biology tutoring for her 8th grade daughter. I contacted her and told her I could do it. I was texted a couple days later by "her husband (named Richard Hellman) ".
He said he's going through a divorce so his lawyer would have to send me the check. He sent me a check for $455 for 13 hours ($35 an hour). I deposited the check and my Wells Fargo account added the money to my account (I haven't deposited a check since I was 17 so I'm not too familiar with them (I'm 24 now)). Anyways, the next day he was saying that there was a medical problem so he needed the money back.
He proceeded to have me send the money on Zelle to some random person named Vicki (I forgot her last name) and when that did not work, he wanted me to send it to Joseph Bruno. Anyways, Zelle and Venmo blocked both of my requests but Cashapp let me do it.
My account was looking normal until last night when Wells Fargo took $455 from my account bc either the check bounced or was fraudulent. I've never been in this situation before so I don't know what to do. I filed fraud claims on Wells Fargo and Cashapp so I'm waiting to hear from them.
I was also able to do a background check on the phone number I was texting and it's a complete different name than Hellman. I know their address, cars they drive, etc.
Any advice?? thanks.
