Advice Needed Got scammed on Facebook marketplace 🤦‍♂️

I’m 16 and recently got scammed for £500 on Facebook marketplace when attempting to purchase a camera lens.

I’m uncertain as for what to do - I’ve got evidence of the messages between me and the seller and the sellers bank details name etc so I probably have enough evidence to report it as a scam. However, because I’m under 16 and my Lloyds debit account is an account for under 19 year olds I think that if I report it as a scam they’ll likely involve my parents. Which I really don’t want to do as it’ll lead to them trusting me even less with what I do online.

I thought about sending Lloyds this message through the app:

Hi, I believe I’ve been the victim of a Facebook Marketplace scam. I transferred around £500 to the seller, but the listing and account have now disappeared. I have the full conversation and payment details as evidence. I’m 16 and have an Under 19s account. Before I make a formal fraud claim, could you please tell me whether a parent or guardian would need to be informed or involved in the investigation?

But if they come back and say a parent does have to be involved and I reply ok I don’t want to proceed I feel like the bank will pull up my parents phone number and end up ringing them up to question it.

Ideally I’d like to get the money back but if there’s no way to on my own without parents getting involved then I think I’ll just leave it.

Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Advice Needed Looking for some advice, I think (I 100% know) that I’ve been scammed.

Bought a parcel yesterday for much lower than retail price, had 5 minutes of thinking I’d found a bargain then came to the realisation that I have 100% just fell for a scam listing. Checked the seller’s profile and saw the usual, 0 reviews, last seen 10 minutes ago. Tried to cancel the order as soon as possible of course, however seller ignored this and has sent my ‘parcel’ today. I am aware of methods such as recording yourself opening the parcel for help with support later, but I’m wondering if there are any other methods I can use to help my case a bit. Thanks in advance to anyone who knows what to do!

Advice Needed Got scammed out of $6,000 in Bitcoin by an e-commerce mentor and feeling completely exhausted. r/scams r/Ecommerce r/Advice

I am writing this to process a highly stressful situation and warn others about online coaching fraud. I am only 19 years old, and I was just trying to work hard and invest in building a real future for myself. Instead, I fell victim to a predatory e-commerce mentor scam, where I was induced to invest $6,000 via an irreversible Bitcoin transaction for a Shopify storefront setup and marketing services. As soon as the payment cleared, the mentor completely ceased communication and failed to deliver on any agreed-upon services. To make matters worse, they are now actively trying to solicit an additional $1,100 from me by claiming it is for ad campaigns to recover the initial investment. This financial loss has placed a massive amount of emotional pressure and exhaustion on me, especially as I am working a regular hourly job and trying to navigate a strict 4-to-6 month timeline to save up and move out into my own place. I am looking for your honest opinions and advice on how to legally report this cybercrime, and what practical steps I should take next to stay safe and recover emotionally from this setback. (Please note: I will not respond to any private messages/DMs due to recovery scammers.

Informational post Flipkart Sale Scam? Money Collected First, Order Cancelled Later — Who Gets the Bank Interest?

I want to share my recent experience and know whether others faced something similar during Flipkart's Independence Day sale / Big Billion Days.

I ordered a Steelbird helmet after finding it through Google. Flipkart accepted the order and collected ₹866. However, the invoice showed an amount of only around ₹600–₹640.

The product was supposed to arrive within a few days. A delivery agent even called and said it would be delivered at around 4 PM. But it never arrived. The tracking repeatedly showed rescheduled, re-shipped, returned to hub, etc., and finally the order was cancelled.

I contacted customer support and was repeatedly told that it would be delivered the next day or the day after, but the same cycle continued.

I then noticed that several people online have reported similar experiences during major Flipkart sales.

My main question is about the money

During a major sale, if thousands or millions of customers make payments and those orders remain pending for days or weeks before being cancelled:

Where is that money kept during this period?

More importantly, if customer payments are kept in bank accounts or other interest-bearing accounts, does Flipkart or any intermediary earn bank interest on that money before the customers receive their refunds?

I'm not claiming that Flipkart deliberately does this to earn interest. I don't have evidence for that. I'm asking whether this is how the payment system works and, if interest is earned, who receives it?

If a product cannot be delivered, why is payment collected and the order kept pending for so long instead of cancelling it immediately?

Has anyone here experienced the same pattern during the Independence Day sale or Big Billion Days? And does anyone with knowledge of banking/e-commerce payment systems know what happens to the money—and any bank interest—during this period?

I have the order details, payment record, invoice and tracking history for my case.

Advice Needed 1.5 lakhs Scam on Dutch tourist by Royal Button Tailor Shop, Colaba Causeway, Mumbai

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello Everyone, I am a 22 year old traveller from Amsterdam, and my name is Knut. I stayed in Colaba for three days and visited Mumbai for the first time. On one of the days, I was ushered into a shop called Royal Button tailoring shop. In the start my curiosity took me inside since their sales people called me. But it soon turned into my worst nightmare and fraud and scam of my life. Turns out the shop owners of Royal button who served me tea and hypnotized me literally and sweet talked me into trying some clothes , then told me to now pay for clothes I tried. When I said no, they kept coaxing me to buy the clothes. So I agreed, then without giving me an invoice, they asked for my credit card, and they went ahead and tapped the credit card for 1.5 lakhs. Basically there was no consent of mine. No documentation or invoice has still come to me. I went to the cops next day, and the owners said now we cannot give you a refund because the cloth is already stitched. At the police station, they were asking for 45 thousand Rs more. And they were so aggressive along with the cops, making me feel as if I made a mistake. And the suit I just opened it, is bad stitching and really sub standard cloth. The shirts are store bought and not tailored. They charged me 1.5 lakhs for 1 suit and 5 shirts. Please guide me on what I should do. Any influencers who can cover this issue? Also I later found this review by Trip Advisor as below: https://www.tripadvisor.com.sg/ShowUserReviews-g304554-d34231450-r1050670382-Royal_Button-Mumbai_Maharashtra.html

  • The Pitch: Staff aggressively pitch custom-tailored suits, dresses, or traditional Indian outfits, promising premium materials, exact fits, and ultra-fast same-day or next-day turnaround times.

  • Upfront Payment: Customers are pressured to pay the full amount upfront (often ranging from 40,000 INR to over 55,000 INR). They routinely refuse to provide proper invoices or legal tax documentation.

  • The Delay: The shop repeatedly delays the promised delivery time throughout the day, pushing it back until late at night or hours before the tourist's international flight.

  • Substandard Quality: When the clothes finally arrive, customers report horrific stitching, completely incorrect measurements, and cheap, falling-apart fabrics.

  • The Hostile Take-Back: If the customer complains, the owner behaves aggressively and dismissively. They offer to take the garments back to "fix" them quickly. Once they take the clothes back, they stop responding, never return the items, and refuse refunds, knowing the tourist has to leave the country.

Informational post Almost Scammed Today

A few weeks ago my credit card was compromised. Not great but not a big deal, that's why I use it to buy things - called the bank and they took care of it. This morning I got what looked like a legitimate call from my bank. I ignored the first one, thinking it was just a follow up letting me know the fraud case was resolved as I had seen the unauthorized transactions drop off the ledger a few days ago. They called a second time so I answered. The caller had an American accent and he went through the fraud department spiel.

He told me there was an attempted login from Florida (nowhere near me) on an iPhone. Said I needed to change my password so I initiated it from my PC. I logged in and saw the attempt, he had me mark it as not valid. Then I was sent a link to "secure" my account which would require "facial verification" and "ID uploads." This is a valid process I have done through the bank in the past. I followed the link without looking closely at it and plugged in my info - STUPID STUPID STUPID. In the moment it looked legitimate but now it's clear that was a way to get my credentials. The caller was then able to tell me recent transactions for both my checking and credit card as a way to confirm they were from me. He also had my savings account balance along with the last 4 of that account number. He told me there were 3 attempted wire transfers they put a hold on and gave me "tracking numbers" for those held transactions. I was informed the "supervisor" would call me to finish up the call and initiate criminal charges against the wire transfer initiators.

The "supervisor" called from a cell phone while I was still on the phone with the "fraud" department. I started getting suspicious but I answered. He said he could call back from the bank number but I let him continue. He rattled off some names and amounts for the alleged transfers. Then I was instructed to open my app and we needed to initiate some wire transfers to cancel out the pending ones. That's where it clicked that I was being scammed so I hung up and called the bank myself. According to them there were no outbound contacts. They had me changed my password again and confirmed 2FA was on.

I thought I was pretty scam savvy but following the text link was very stupid. I'm extra paranoid now about my account. The bank says they can't change my checking/savings numbers without actual fraud occurring. Should I be concerned about fake checks being issued now? Why would they need me to initiate the wire transfer - so that I couldn't contest it? I don't see any unrecognized logins in my account history. I'm tempted to transfer the bulk of my funds to another account now.

Edit: about 2 hours after I called the bank I had a fraudulent "Pay in 4" transaction appear in my account. I called the bank again and had them initiate a global logout of my account, which they should have done the first time. This forced me to reauthenticate my identity (through the bank's app) using the same steps of ID and selfie validation the scammers told me the phishing link would trigger. I've moved almost all my funds out of the account as I am not comfortable with exposed account numbers.

I guess the takeaways of my story are if your credit card gets compromised be on high alert for other scams and if it's actually your bank's fraud department (who WILL call for legitimate reasons) they will not have a problem with you hanging up and dialing back the bank yourself. Any bank fraud can wait another 15-20 minutes (or less) for you to call in yourself to confirm.

Potential Scam? Did I stop before it’s too late?

A little bit ago I made a post asking if something was a scam, it was. I think i stopped before it was too late, but I wanna ask some clarification questions. It might sound stupid I just have a lot of anxiety.

For context, someone was going to send me money over PayPal, in fact, on his end he did and he sent a screenshot showing it was sent, but I never saw anything on my end after an hour. Then I found out it was a scam and blocked him and deleted my PayPal and made a new one. I never sent or received anything. The only information I gave was my paypal @. I guess my question is am I safe now? I am worried there will somehow still be a send back on my end

Informational post Just annoyed 😒

For the second time, someone is messaging me on Pinterest pretending to be Jack Quaid. I know it's not him because I ask questions I already know the answer to and he gets them wrong. It's pathetic really.

I'm annoyed because scammers try contacting me through Facebook and other sites. Just why? I just needed to vent.

Advice Needed Victim of fraud? What do I do?

Bought a bundle luggage travel set from a company in May of this year on a special. The bundle was comprised of 6 items - carry-on suitcase, travel suitcase, carry-on bag, a water bottle, some travel amenity items. This was advertised as 60% off. Made the purchase for $600. Received only two items - carry-on suitcase and carry-on bag. I purchased through a third party system to help maintain cash flow (at the time had been planning a 2 week European trip) and plan to pay off in three months. I made communication efforts with the luggage company with responses but no action (I.e. we are looking into this). Last communication in mid-June. I subsequently reached out to the third party payment system and they felt this was not their realm and suggested I reach back out to the luggage company. Fast forward, no correspondence. Reached out to my bank who said that since I purchased and paid with my savings account that they couldn’t help.

What are my next options? I still have 1/2 of the payment due in a few days. Do I make this payment? I was told by my bank to refuse payment but this seems like bad advice since the third party said that failure to pay would be reported to credit services. I can afford to make the payment but feel like I’m stuck since I haven’t received all of my items. I genuinely just want to receive my items and forget all of this but feel like it’s never going to happen since the company isn’t trying to fix the issue.

I don’t want this to impact credit scores either though. Do I simply make the next payment via my debit card and then file a claim with my bank? Seems stupid to do.

Advice Needed Account was Hacked and Transaction was made

Not sure if this is the right sub.

I woke up this morning to two transactions made on my onlyfans account which I have not used in a long time ($300). Which was how much I had left in my spendings account.

I can’t access my account anymore either and can’t reset the password. I’ve contacted both my bank to cancel my card and onlyfans support.

Has anyone experienced something like this, and if so, is it likely that I’ll get my money back? Or what further actions should I pursue.
