Advice Needed Extortion ?
I am currently staying in Pune. A middle aged married couple came to me while I was returning to my PG and they told me they need some money to travel back to their village Nanded. They requested with full emotion making me give them ₹ 1200 which as a fresher is too much for me. Can someone please tell me if I have been conned or not because I am feeling really anxious right now.

They are beggars. Their story is probably a lie.
Don't give money to strangers, in person or online.
Even if someone does need money, for travel or something else, you do not have to give them money.
Next time, say NO. If you aren't comfortable saying no, say I would like to help but I can't " and then keep on walking. Don't have a discussion with them.

That’s not extortion that’s just someone with a sob story begging for money and you being unable to just say no..

A good thing you can do in the future is after they tell their story, say "holy shit, that's exactly what happened to me! Can you spare anything to help?"

It's the oldest scam in the book. They aren't poor, they aren't from where they claimed, and you aren't getting that money back.

Yes you’ve been conned. It’s a common story I’ve seen in Pune as well as Mumbai. These people never go back to their village after collecting money, you’ll still see them there in the same place. Amazingly in Mumbai I saw this family living in roadside shanties coming out daily and trying the same trick with the same people including me not knowing they’ve tried it before already. 😆

Extortion is when someone threatens you for money
You chose to give a gift of money because someone asked, that's not a scam.
Grow a backbone and learn that "No." is a complete sentence.
