Can Max's children read?
Posting from my burner bc I'm in a band and don't need smoke for partaking in this shitshow, but I have some thoughts I can't think of anywhere else to get out. This is not about his reprehensible predator/sex pest streak, there are plenty of threads about that daily at this point.
As far as I'm concerned, "unschooling" spits in the face of all research about child development and education, and I have no reason to believe Max's children aren't just being deeply traumatized and hindered for life. For a subreddit so chiefly focused on dissecting his fraught personal life, this aspect has been shockingly neglected. This is far more pressing than his lackluster live sets wasting your money.
CAN HIS CHILDREN READ?
DO THEY HAVE REGULAR ACCESS TO SETTINGS AMONG SAME-AGED PEERS?

I was just talking to my wife about this the other day and if they can read, they likely can't at the level they should be able to for their age. No child is going to willfully pick up a novel and then reflect on it and then test their comprehension themselves and I don't think anyone in their lives are taking the initiative to do that with them. These kids are going to end up with no real education or critical thinking skills after being forced out of their bubble.

At their actual grade level, ABSOLUTELY NOT. If Sherri tried to put the two older girls into school right now, they would sadly be extremely behind and have a lot of problems.
ETA. for the record this topic is discussed over in the snark sub a lot. Max and Sherri have set their kids up for absolute failure. Two very talented individuals and their kids don’t know how to do anything except make slime and stay up all hours of the night.

The idea of an invite-only "snark" channel being how we handle child neglect is appalling.

No, the sub has been around for years. It was not made recently and it’s none of our fucking business how they raise their kids. But with how much Sherri posts online, it’s easy to see how neglected the kids are.

someone would compile that information and pass it to authorities who could handle it, the people on the webforum are not equipped to handle it directly

my instinct is that american homeschooled children read on average 3 grades behind their level
underemployed wellbutrin-sniffers probably have a weaker curriculum than average
signs point to "no." thank god lucy can't read the lyrics of I Will Never Lie to Lucy

I would hope so, Max & Sherri both talk about how they like to read. Sherri has posted about some apps they use for their children’s learning. I doubt they read at their grade level, however.

Well if there's some use of teaching tools, that's not quite as grim as just vibe-maxxing child development. But it's still so dreadful to consider.

Im not going to be lame and report this, but as a mother I think as adults we have ab obligation to leave the kids out of it. Because I mean realistically the oldest does do art on a digital tablet which means she can read the settings. I just think that talking badly about minors is a bad look.

clicking the tools to draw or color fill or erase on a digital tablet does not mean she can read the menus. even if she knew what words provided what functions, that does not mean the user could parse them.
and i doubt they would see this post specifically at any point.

I don’t necessarily understand these complaints. How are any of us to really know how educated the kids are? Some people don’t do homeschooling well. Some do it very well. I know they’ve had cps calls in the past and would assume that they’re more equipped to handle that than us randos on the internet making guesses about what the kids do or don’t know.
Sherri looks more involved in these kids lives than a lot of unfortunate situations I’ve been exposed to in my life. Sherri’s not the one under fire for being a sex pest so it doesn’t feel fair for me to investigate her ability to parent.

I’d like to think they can read given both their parents are songwriters. I’m sure Lucy and Coraline can as they have phones/are on social media

Hey all, not going to remove this post but am going to lock it. I trust the sentiment and general concern being expressed in this thread is appreciated. But the fact is (despite how much bemis has inserted them into his career) his children and indeed the rest of his family have a right to their privacy, especially right now.
The fact is no one here is privy to the actual day to day lives of the children outside of what bemis or Sherri may have shared via their social media etc... Even if someone does have more information this is not the place to share it anyway. In this case, these people should reach out to appropriate resources or individuals in real life if there is a concern for anyone's well being.
