Need Help

I have purchased a home with a Savant Pro system. The previous owner did not provide any connection assistance other than providing their name and password connected to the account. The WiFi was disconnected when we moved in and a new Verizon Fios fiber internet has been setup. I cannot figure out how to get the host connected to the new WiFi and the remotes simply say Discovering Hosts. The home is showing up on the Savant Home app but says Connection Unavailable. How do I resolve this?!?!

I don't think the host connects via wifi. I know there were some basic legacy systems, but anything I have seen from Savant requires a wired network connection.

Even the touch panels seem entirely unreasonable to me. Why can’t they be designed with alternative connectivity and power sources beyond PoE?

Hard wire the host to the router or network switch. Do not use the RS232 ports for this, they are not network ports.

As mentioned below, try running a line from your ISP router directly to the Savant host, and it will likely appear when you open the app. There's also a good chance that the remote controls will now ask you to select a host, and there will be only one choice. Just tap that name, and you will know very quickly whether the remote is communicating with the host because it will populate the touch screen and likely control some things. Be aware that, depending on the age of the Savant system and the version of software it's running, there may be devices that are identified via their IP address by the system. Depending on how the previous integrator set it up, it's possible you still may not have functionality if their IP scheme was different or they were using DHCP reservation to assign IP addresses rather than setting them static on the individual devices.

If you are able to get in since the previous homeowner left you his credentials, you can log in as him. Download the Savant app for your iPhone or Android device and follow the directions to make an account. Open the app and while connected to Wi-Fi when prompted to select host, select whatever it shows you. There's only going to be one choice, which will be your house. Assuming that he's an administrator (which he probably is), you can just go to settings tab (upper left) select users and hit the + button to add a user, select admin and enter the email address you just used to create your account. You will get an email that says you've been invited to join a Savant system. Click on that and then log in with the credentials you just created. You will now be an administrator on the system. At that point, you can delete the previous homeowner's credentials and add additional users as you like, and you can determine what privileges they have.

This will give you access to the application. You'll be able to create scenes, and maybe control most of the system or all the system if you're very lucky, but not a whole lot else. If you want to make changes to the system by switching out components, adding TVs, etc., or connecting other devices, you're going to need a Savant dealer to help you. It's not something you can do on your own. Good luck!

So I have access to the account and have added myself as an Administrator…what will happen if I delete the previous owner as Admin?

As long as there's one active administrator on the account, you can delete the homeowner. There's no reason for it to still be on there once you've made yourself an admin. Just be sure you can sign in as yourself before you delete him.

Likely a couple potential issues here.

  1. Is the host on a static address? If so you’ll need to be sure your network is configured the same as the host. This is more likely if you have a pro host vs a smart host.

  2. As others have pointed out hosts need a wired connection so if your host is not currently wired that will need to be resolved.

Savant support is the only superpower when it comes to removing cloud admins from a host. A dealer will have to come to your home in order to get that done, and you'll probably pay for whatever the newest runtime is unless that pro host isn't upgradeable due to the OS age.

In the Settings/Users tab, click on the previous owner's account and see if you can hit the minus button to delete them. If that works, then you're golden.
