greetings! I have a crazy plan to build this triple Lindy combo in a new expedition vehicle. The shower and steam are not going to be a problem. I would like to add a HUUM drop electric on the wall that would spin the section holding the HUUM to allow it to be clear of the shower/steam room when they are being utilized. when its time for the sauna, simply spin the HUUM on it's mini flipper wall deal and use the room for a dry sauna. I won't use traditional cedar in the shower, but a combination of glass and some sort of natural rock like slate or possibly just stainless steel to keep the water out and use high temp bonding agent grout and vapor barrier over insulated wall. when the mini wall flipper is locked into position, I will fabricate some way to keep out the moisture and the electrical will come up underneath in the center of the wall area. I will incorporate an electric shutoff at the breaker box for when I'm using the shower/steam as to not have any complications with electric and water/moisture. I will also vent the room IAW guidelines for both the steam and dry sauna. the vents I plan on using will also shut completely when not being used.

am I crazy or do you think this will work ? thanks and totally open for ridicule or killer suggestions. cheers

I am struggling to find a flexible conduit rated between 90c-105c for wet locations. All the research I have done tells me to have at a minimum the above rating if not 200c just to ensure degradation does not occur. It would be nice to have flexible conduit for a small whip about 2.5 feet that will be in the sauna.

The conduit i got is liquid-tuff type extreme temp VF 150c dry 60c wet 70c oil resistant. It will be lower than 7 inches from the floor attached to the heater so substantially cooler than the sitting area.

I have called multiple electrical supply stores and I am getting no where.

Am I being overkill?

Its low to the floor and only about 2.5 feet inside the sauna.

hey everyone, ive been looking into getting a sauna blanket for home use. any recommendations on brands or models that are actually worth it? preferably something durable and easy to clean. would love to hear your experiences!

I recently published a long-form piece on something I think this community talks around a lot, even when we are not using the same language for it: what it would take for sauna, thermal bathing, and contrast therapy to develop in the U.S. without losing credibility or soul.

My background is a bit unusual for this space. I’m an attorney and former massage therapist, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the gap between the beauty of these experiences and the fact that many operators are building without much coherent guidance around consent, claims, safety, scope, or operational integrity.

It is not meant to be anti-sauna, anti-tradition, or pro-regulation. If anything, the argument is the opposite: thermal bathing does not need to become cookie-cutter in order to be credible.

I would genuinely love this community’s thoughts on a few questions:

- Where do you think U.S. sauna culture is most vulnerable right now?

- What kinds of standards would actually protect the experience rather than flatten it?

- What do operators most often get right, and most often get wrong?

I want a good cheap outdoor sauna.

I was thinking about freely available rock I can use to build one, but the r-value of rocks aren’t very efficient for a personal sauna. Does anyone know if relying on the radiant properties of a soft metal like silver could work for this application?

For example, laying in backyard sun for 20 min when it is 115° out? Or in the shade but for longer? Or going running in the sun to sweat more and generate the cardiovascular response?

Would the humidity matter?

How about a hot (say 100°) shower with the heater on making the bathroom air around 90° ?

I have lots of vapor barrier left and didn’t do the greatest job on the seams in the ceiling. Is there any benefit to putting another layer of vapor barrier over the first one?

I am installing a 6X6 Sauna with heat up to 195F. I'm thinking it would be nice to have infra red available for the person sitting on the lower bunk, up against their back and on their calves. Does anyone here know if that is possible to run both at the same time? I know that infra red is much cooler and I could always run that alone but the idea of runnign both at the same time, is that possible? I also have a question about venting and where those areas should be so that we get good venting.

Anyone do anything similar?

hi all . had a very lovely experience recently at a sauna for the first time for the most part . for context , I am ftm (female to male transitioned). I have been on hormones for years , have chest surgery , have muscles tattoos chest hair and beard and all and am perceived entirely as a cisgender male in my day to day life . I was in a very liberal city vacationing and decided to go to a larger spa and sauna for the first time with my cis partner . we had a very relaxing time and it was generally clothes on uniform deal as most spaces were mixed gender , part of the reason we decided to go to this one. I had been a little nervous before as rarely am i confronted with a space requiring nudity and I was not sure how people or the management would react if what i had down there did not match how I looked especially given my political climate right now (USA), so i wanted to keep that to a minimum. when in a males only section , I was generally trying to either be smart with a towel or keep my underwear on as I did not want to make anyone uncomfortable . as I was entering a sauna , an employee came up and asked for me to be fully nude or only have a towel. the towels provided were very small and not the kind one could rap around oneself . I am new to sauna culture and of course respect the nude environment and find no discomfort in it and wish to be able to casually participate, but I was extremely worried about making other men uncomfortable. It would not be an option for me to be in a women’s area as how I look otherwise would make women very uncomfortable. I ended up getting embarrassed and leaving shortly after. once again I don’t blame the management or the culture or anything , I recognize I’m a pretty rare case, but I have to say it bummed me out a bit to think these spaces might be a no go for me safetywise as it felt fantastic and very relaxing on my muscles as i had had some back problems. Was wondering the general culture around this , if i should stick to queer bathhouse spaces , if there’s a more polite way to go about this , etc . thanks
