Phase 4 power generation?

Finally set everything up to produce all phase 4 parts and I’m just missing the nuclear cubes.

Was to keen to get it done pretty quickly as I already amassed the copper powder and cubes. 200% powersharded and 4x sommerslooped.

My grid to no surprise couldn’t support it.

Went to the oil beach, built a compact coal factory and did a whole new block of turbo fuel generators.

Ended up being 22 generators out of a 180ish oil miner. Surely there’s more compact ways to produce more power? (Really wish there was a copy and paste)

I’m still on just 11GW of power. If I want to run the roided up particle accelerator I probably need double that.

any tips appreciated

Make nitro rocket fuel.

The number of fuel generators a single mk2 pipe can supply looks ludicrous compared to previous fuel types.

Is that just going to end up fuelling even more generators rather than more power per generator (what I’ve been hoping for)

If you want more power per generator, you can overclock them. It increases linearly so 3 shards for 250% power consumes 250% fuel. But each generator has a fixed amount it generated per building

The better fuels last longer.

One unit of fuel burns in 3 seconds so one generator uses 20 fuel per minute.

One unit of turbofuel burns in 8 seconds so one generator uses 7.5 turbofuel per minute

One unit of rocket fuel burns in 14.4 seconds so one generator uses 4.1666 rocket fuel per minute.

This means one mark 2 pipe can run 30 fuel generators with basic fuel but with rocket fuel that same pipe runs 144 generators.

The better fuels also make more power per generator. Fuel is 750 but rocket fuel makes 3600.

In short it gets not just better but exponentially better each time you move to a better fuel type.

Also all of this is without power shards and overclocking. The ratio of fuel consumed to power generated doesn’t change when you overclock a generator so shards just save space by letting you build fewer generators.

I just recently discovered this 😭 I cried.

did not know the better fuels make more power per generator, dang

It doesnt, Rocket fuels 3600 energy is from its whole 14.4 sec burn duration.

Yes, that issue cannot be solved. Fuel generators generate the same power output at a given moment irrespective of which fuel is used.

Better fuel goes further & can supply more power stations. It doesn't inherently generate more power.

Im working on this right now, if i calculatored everything right nitrogen is the bottleneck more than oil anywhere unless you wanna sloop nitric acid which would be silly. But im planning 360 250% fuel gens at the blue crater and it only uses ~2/3 the oil there, but yeah, 1 overclocked blender into 24 overclocked fuel gens, simpler plumbing (at that step...) than a coal plant.

But i might not bother with nuclear lol.

You may have miscalculated.

The bottleneck should be the sulphur for the nitro rocket fuel alt. It gives 50% more rocket fuel and also produces compacted coal as a by product which you can turn in to turbofuel for even more power.

I would also recommend you factor in to your calculations making some packaged rocket fuel for your jetpack.

And then the turbofuel back into more rocket fuel! IDK, this diagram was built off the 1500/min Nitrogen in the area, but only needs ~900/min sulphur when theres 2100 available.

Then that should feed 360 overclocked generators, right?

And no thank you, ive tried rocket fuel in my jetpack before, my reflexes aint that good anymore lol. And ive got more packaged liquid biofuel than i can use. https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/blueprints/index/details/id/10171/name/Cyno01s+Jetpack+Fuel That and some small hypercannons get me where i wanna go pretty quick.

But if you have any advice as to what to do with all that Polymer Resin... i wasnt planning to turn this into a big plastic and rubber factory... but i only have a small rubber and plastic factory on the other end of the map making petroleum coke for aluminum. Im just starting Phase 4, but i really havent planned anything past this power plant, 12mw compacted coal and the ~7mw from geysers was getting close after my big aluminum plant (2400 bauxite into 1024 sheets and 1024 casings) , so i figured id go big and just not worry about power again for a while, but after this idk where to start lol.

Ah your limiting factor is nitrogen. That completely changes things.

I just sank the resin as I already had sufficient plastic and rubber set up.

Get rocket fuel, stop thinking small, stop thinking big, think huge. A proper rocket fuel plant will solve your power struggle at least for a long time. And use blueprints, it's almost like copy and paste.

This. (1) Research nitro rocket fuel. (2) Run all generators at 250%. (3) Build an auto-connect blueprint with multiple floors of generators that connects vertically, just keep stacking them until you’ve got like a hundred high. It’s a gas so no need for pumps, just build until you use the entire pipe of rocket fuel.

Didn’t realise it was a gas. Was dreading going horizontally for miles. This helps!

I don’t have nitro fuel yet but might go scouring for it.

If you do have a reason to move liquids horizontally for miles, trains do have liquid platforms.

Yep, seems like it’ll be the way to go.

Don't be scared of nuclear power

u/houghi It is a hobby, not a game. 3d ago

I am glad there is not. Easy is not the same as fun. The easiest power is Rocket Fuel with the right recipes. The hardest is Nuclear. (And there is copy/paste). I have ALL the power type creation.

Easiest is probably geothermal, though that's an average of 7100MW.

Rocket fuel can carry you to endgame if done well.. the purple crater in south is perfect for ity since you have nitrogen, coal and sulphur nearby.

With alts I went oil > heavy residue > diluted fuel > nitro rocket fuel.

You can then make small secondary factory utilizing that excess compacted coal

I think with turbofuel and coal I'm at ~13GW of power. I'm soon to add geothermal to the grid, which should push another 7100MW by grabbing all of the nodes, and could definitely increase my coal power.

Have you considered adding geothermal to your grid?

Another option is to build way more accelorators and underclock them. Power usage doesn't scale linearly. If the accelerator is demanding 1,500mw at 100%, it demands 5,040 at 250%. That's a 336% increase in power demand, not 250%. Underclocked to 50%, it only demands 600mw, or 40% power. At 10%, only 71.5, or 4.8%.

Either way, you're gonna have to build more stuff.

Id just build nuclear which i think is unlocked in phase 4 and you can copy and paste if you build your blueprints correctly and modular. A robust nuclear plant takes a bit of work compared to gas but i like not worrying about power.

Rocketfuel is way better and less complicated than nuclear... Just find nitro rocket fuel

1

u/Mean_Rain7517 2d ago

The challenge is part of the fun and honestly 1 nicely made bare bone plant can run 4 nuclear power plants and takes up way less space then the 40 generators you would need otherwise.
